Binghamton is in one of his better moods when he visits McHale and his crew. It seems that Binghamton wants a special favor from McHale and is willing to play nice for a few days while a Personnel Officer makes a visit to the base. Binghamton tells McHale that the officer is coming to the base to evaluate him for promotion. He asks McHale if he would help him out and be strictly Navy while the officer is present. By doing this they just might get rid of Binghamton.
But Binghamton is playing a trick on McHale. The Personnel Officer is really there to evaluate McHale for a job of training PT recruits. They want McHale to leave command of the 73 and start teaching in the States. So in fact Binghamton is trying to get rid of McHale rather than the other way around. By the time McHale finds out, the choice has already been made.
There is some nice scenes in this episode as Joe Flynn lets it all hang-out with his dancing and calling people by their first name. He brings a lot of energy to the show which makes the script even more interesting. After some rocky episode in the early part of the season, this final stretch of shows have been very enjoyable. And this episode does not disappoint.
