THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. – The Green Opal Affair – 1964
This is the sixth episode of 1964 to 1968 spy series, THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. The series ran for a total of 105 episodes. The first season was filmed in B/W with the remainder shot in colour. Robert Vaughn plays agent Napoleon Solo while David McCallum plays Illya Kuryakin. Leo G Carroll plays Mister Waverly, the boss of the secret agency known as U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command for Law & Enforcement) Their main enemy is THRUSH, an organization out to take over the planet.
In this episode, Vaughn goes undercover as a book keeper for THRUSH boss, Carroll O'Connor. O'Connor is running a secret project where THRUSH has ex-Nazi scientist, Milton Seltzer, do brain surgery on various important government types. The surgery allows THRUSH to use key words to impose mind control on the people.
The main problem here for Vaughn is that THRUSH knows that he is there undercover. They plan on doing the surgery on him. Then they can send him back to UNCLE to spy for them. Vaughn does not like the sound of this and makes for the woods. This fails as THRUSH minion, Nachi Nozwa, (doing a great copy of Odd Job from Goldfinger) stops him cold.
Vaughn does win out at the end as he convinces another THRUSH type to switch sides and dispose of O'Connor in a shark infested bay. Vaughn takes the list of people already turned by THRUSH back to UNCLE.
