THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. – The Four-Steps Affair – 1965

This is the 21st episode of 1964 to 1968 spy series, THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. The series ran for a total of 105 episodes. The first season was filmed in black and white with the remainder shot in colour. Robert Vaughn plays agent Napoleon Solo while David McCallum plays Illya Kuryakin. Leo G Carroll plays Mister Waverly, the boss of the secret agency known as U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command for Law & Enforcement) Their main enemy is THRUSH, an organization out to take over the planet.

In this one, UNCLE agents Vaughn and McCallum are assigned to protect the young leader of a far eastern country. The boy, Michel Petit, is in the U.S. for some minor surgery. THRUSH types want to kill the lad so as to destabilize his country for a takeover.

Petit and his nurse, Susan Seaforth Hayes, are kidnapped by a bunch of THRUSH types led by Malachi Thorne. Thorne also happens to be Petit's official bodyguard. UNCLE tumbles to the double dealing Thorne and slap him in a cell. They later let Thorne escape hoping he will lead UNCLE to where Petit, Miss Hayes and Agent McCallum are being held.

The plan goes off with a few minor hic-ups, but everyone is rescued in the end. The THRUSH types are all captured or killed.

Hiding behind a beard in this episode, is guest star, Don Harron. Harron some will recall as series regular, "Charlie Farquharson" in the long running, HEE-HAW comedy series.

An enjoyable romp.

Warning: Spoilers
A 10 year old boy, whose knowledge and maturity are both beyond his years, becomes the target of THRUSH. There is, as always, treachery abounding, with the boy's own aides, none other than THRUSH agents and an UNCLE agent, who is victimized by none other than a THRUSH agent.

The plot deals with the kidnapping of the boy and Solo and Ilya's ways of getting him released.

Practically all of the action takes place in a remote area and Solo comes to the aid of the boy just as he is about to be done away with.

Reaching safety, the boy goes into a philosophical rant requiring at least a master's, if not doctoral degree to understand.
