THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. –The Children's Day Affair – 1965

This is the 41st episode of 1964 to 1968 spy series, THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. The series ran for a total of 105 episodes. The first season was filmed in black and with the remainder shot in colour. Robert Vaughn plays agent Napoleon Solo while David McCallum, plays Illya Kuryakin, Leo G Carroll plays Mister Waverly, the boss of the secret agency known as U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command for Law & Enforcement) Their main enemy is THRUSH, an organization out to take over the planet.

UNCLE discovers that THRUSH is running a school in Switzerland to train young boys to become assassins. The school is run by Warren Stevens and Jeanne Cooper. They take boys off the street and give them all the instruction they need to become top killers. The boys first assignment is to stage a massive hit on a meeting of UNCLE bosses.

Needless to say our intrepid UNCLE agents, Robert Vaughn and David McCallum draw the protection detail. Also in the mix here is Susan Silo as a social worker looking for a lost boy. The lad of course has been scooped up by THRUSH for killer training.

THRUSH bosses, Cooper and Stevens set some of their dastardly child killers on the UNCLE agents. It is only good luck and bad marksmanship that save the pair from death. They also have to rescue the in the way Miss Silo from biting the bullet.

They discover that the boy's choir performing at the UNCLE conference is really the top students of the THRUSH school. Arriving just in the nick of time, Vaughn and McCallum save the day and rustle up the THRUSH lads for a bit of re-education.

This is an enjoyable romp, with the back lot of MGM studios standing in for Switzerland.

Veteran actress Jeanne Cooper was on screen and television from 1953 to 2013. She is best known for the 1,170 appearance she made on the soap, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS as Kate Chancellor Murphy. .

Warning: Spoilers
Thrush goes the education route in this episode with a school on the Swiss border concentrating on the academics of violence and killing.

Their headmaster is something else and Jeanne Cooper, as Lady Fear, a head mistress instills fear with the constant threat of the use of the whip.

They plot to entertain business people and while the boys sing FRERE JACQUES, they are to pull out guns and shoot everyone.

There is a social worker who dislikes children but is assigned to one of the boys led astray by Thrush.

Ilya and Napoleon know how to outwit these characters.
