"Hidden Treasure/Picture from the Past/Ace's Salary" was quite an enjoyable later ep of "The Love Boat"

After watching the pilot of a short-lived series called "Flying High" on YouTube, I then decided to also view the only ep of "The Love Boat" uploaded there that happened to feature one of "FH"s stars-Pat Klous billed by this time as "Patricia"-as a regular cast member, here playing Judy McCoy, sister of Julie who was played by Lauren Tewes who was replaced by Ms. Klous after Ms. Tewes was fired for her off-set drug addiction. This was a show I wasn't watching much by this time because of it being opposite a new hit on NBC called "The Golden Girls" but I do remember watching parts of this at the time of its original airing. The crew of the Pacific Princess is celebrating its 200th voyage with celebs like pianist Peter Duchin and artist Andy Warhol on board. Two married couples are also on the ship: Andy Griffith and Cloris Leachman in only the second time she reunited with former co-star of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" Gavin MacLoed having previously done a two-part ep the previous season. They are looking for a rare stamp and aren't hesitant in tearing the ship apart in doing so! The other long-wed pairing are Tom Bosley and Marion Ross, only a year after their show "Happy Days" went off the air. Ms. Ross plays someone who actually appeared in one of Mr. Warhol's films and is a bit embarrassed by it since she knows how conservative her hubby is but she's yet to tell him. Also, Ted McGinley's (another "Happy Days" alum though he doesn't have any scenes with either Bosley or Ross) character is a bit puzzled when he finds out he's the lowest paid employee on the boat. (Doesn't help when Judy says she got the same salary as her sister) One more notable guest star is Milton Berle as a tax auditor who Gopher fears with good reason! Also, this was the season with changes in the way the beginning credits sequence was presented as well as the theme song sung by Dionne Warwick and not by previous singer Jack Jones with the additions of The Love Boat Marmaids, dancers/singers of which one of the members was Teri Hatcher, years before fame as Lois Lane in "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures" and as Susan in "Desperate Housewives". With all that I mentioned, this was quite as enjoyable an ep of "The Love Boat" as one gets whenever one watches for either humor, famous guest stars, or simply escaping from whatever problems one has in life... As the trivia section on this site also mentions, Ron Howard's two TV dads-Griffith and Bosley-appear in this ep. It should also be worth noting that Ms. Ross appears several more times this season as first a fiancée, then wife of Gavin MacLoed's Captain Merrill Stubing.

'This is purser stuff. Do I look at photographer stuff?' It's the Andy Warhol episode! Finally, we're getting some culture on this program. (Not really. Warhol was the ultimate troll. He's also not much of an actor or personality.) It's a cruise to celebrate the 200th cruise. Andy Griffith is married to Cloris Leachman. They're looking for a stamp she hid in one of the rooms. Happy Days Mom and Dad are here. (I don't know. I never watched that show. You know, when I was young, Tom Bosley used to sell terrible computers on an infomercial. I never forgave him.) It turns out that Happy Days Mom once appeared in one of Andy Warhol's movies. Hubby can't ind out. Gopher is worried because his inventory is being audited. His auditor is Milton Berle! On Kafka's Love Boat Scale, this episode gets 2 ½ * out of a possible 4 *.
