A tour de force performance from Timothy Bateson as the laugh a minute, long lost old friend of Compo and Clegg. They see Amos leaving the police station first as he is irate that his good name is being besmirched. It looks like Amos is visiting his elderly mother as he has been living in Stoke. However his reputation is a bit on the murky side.
Foggy is certainly suspicious about Amos especially as he has a keen interest in visiting the bank and acting suspiciously. Our trio are always checking their wallets just to be on the safe side. It seems Compo and Clegg are also wary of Amos.
In the meantime our trio have to run inside a chippy to avoid an out of control learner driver. Foggy is arrested as he steps in to prevent a potential bank robbery. Clegg is too trusting with a cheque to cash.
The episode belongs to Bateson though, one of those character actors who always provided a memorable turn. He kind of reminded me of Ken Dodd here but he was not the only guest star to be memorable. The chip shop owner almost matched Bateson as the learner driver sent people scurrying in.
