Three old men going downhill on a bike
Prismark1020 September 2016
This is regarded as the quintessential episode of the Last of the Summer Wine. We see our trio careening down a hill on one bicycle made for three and then somersaulting over a wall. It came to define the series.

However such a stunt is only one element of the show as it has witty lines, nostalgia, musings about life and memorable characters.

We see junk shop owner Percy or Dirk as he liked to be known as played brilliantly by Joe Melia with his T Shirt with 'I Sold Kirk Douglas the Dimple' emblazoned. He might own a small junk shop in Yorkshire but like Del Boy he dreams of being a millionaire and a playboy to boot. Dirk allows our trio to look for parts to build a bike.

The cafe has been refurbished and looks cleaned up, Sid and Ivy have roped in Nora and Wally to help out. This means no scruffy beggars are allowed in. Our trio has to eat outside the cafe 'continental' style allowing writer Roy Clarke some sight gags accompanied by Ronnie Hazlehurst's Gallic inspired themes.

Sid has the best line when Ivy throws them out: 'It's all right for you. She just throws you out. Me, she keeps!'

Clegg wonders about the universe and wonder why bananas are the right size to fit your mouth. It got me thinking, well the watermelon is sure ain't the right size to fit your mouth.

The crowning glory of the episode is that Foggy, Clegg and Compo do build three separate bikes with the spare parts and it does not go according to plan until they decide to knock one for all three of them.
