funny epi, why does Mac put up with... Warning: Spoilers
AMANDA, the first time we see her, and for some reason Mac has never got rid of her, even when she drives/drove him "nuts". Tess, other than the obvious, really does think Mac has/is nuts for letting her always back in, and in a way he agrees, but something else about her made him laugh, and laughter is important to keep one steady in times that are rough without much to laugh at/about...and is Amanda really trying to "make trouble ? hmm the ending of the series, will write/type more about what i thought/think, expand this, but over all no just trouble seems to be Amanda in/cause/apart...but she loves Mac, always has/will.

How Mac didn't think Amanda when circus tickets come ? unless he hoped not thinking would make it somehow be another...he had to have known just wouldn't admit and do love the way that Tess catches on as to who sent them tickets, she really didn't like Amanda, or trust her (with mostly good reasons), walking high wire, a skill used quite often by her, as yup she is a thief, liar too, to set up Mac (and Mac doesn't even know the guy! but Zachary knew of Mac, ol Amanda "praised him up").

Richie "spying", funny not very good, on Amanda and Zach as she has a buyer for a valuable book. Richie lets Mac know for sure that the set up was a well set up and that they looked like they were "casing" the place. Well Zach and Amanda have managed to almost get the book and leave when Mac lets them know he there and "flips" coin about going to police or letting them off, course coin hits floor alarms blare they all run with Mac last, but before Mac "shows" up Amanda wonders whats taking him so long, Zach thinking he now set up, pulls the usual (swords) but also gun to "slow" (cheat) Mac, but of course Mac "shows up, the fight but Amanda just kinda "shrugs" after she takes head, funny face with the shrug and Mac...side note, often wonder, looked like Mac was almost getting a bit of the quickening, thinking was it because he did the fighting an so close before he "fell" away and Amanda then got all ? sometime will see if I can find out...

Over all liked epi, as was fun to see Tess more upset with Amanda than with Grace, and in a way Amanda was more of a threat than Grace as Mac did have more of a relationship or should say relationships, with her over what think was 300 to 350 yrs, and had more of a connection than she could ever have because of the length of time but Tess has Macs "complete heart", only way to put without even more "wordiness" which I can very easily do, but also get even more confusing to read, so will just type, hope you enjoy highlander TV series, its funny has some drama, tears may come an go oh ya its deff wacky TV but it is REAL, and I DO NOT LIKE SO CALLED REALITY TV as reality is not real just dumb us down and is preparing our minds to be drones (my thinking)

All the fun of the circus
zeppo-214 February 2006
Called by to a travelling circus with free tickets by yet another immortal, Duncan and friends hit the ground running. Better than average episode with fellow immortal, Amanda, destined to become a recovering character.

Amanda is the eternal 'bad girl,' literally in this case! She betrayed Duncan in the past (a restoration era period flashback) and does it again in the present day. When will men learn not to trust a pretty face?

A gent to the end, Duncan saves her skin once again, ready for the next time he has to do it again. Quick pacing and enough action with the customary final sword fight, plus interesting circus location, make this a good potboiler entry in the series.

First appearance of Amanda in Highlander

I never liked the immortal Amanda much partly because she usually wore her hair cut super short. Also because she was basically dishonest. Standing next to Tessa, Amanda looked like a skinny boy.

Recurring character, Amanda is introduced. Amanda is cute and charming in most of the series, but I didn't like her here. Hey, they broke one of the rules!

Warning: Spoilers
The gang goes to the circus and it turns out Duncan's old immortal lover is in the circus, Amanda, who is a thief.

Apparently, Amanda was responsible for her partner-in-crime, Zachary, going to jail. Speaking of which, Zachary had a very cool escape from the back of a prison transfer vehicle whilst wearing a straight-jacket. He jumps onto a truck-vehicle-hauler, hot-wires a car and drives right off it. That was all pretty awesome. Too bad they made him a villain to be gotten rid of. The writers make sure to make him evil by having him kill a sword seller in cold blood.

Zachary is going to kill Amanda but she entices him with a 10 million dollar theft idea plus Duncan Macleod's head. Tho I don't think she's serious about Duncan, thinking Duncan will kill him.

Besides Amanda plotting against Duncan, she also keeps taking digs at Tessa as if tho she could get Duncan anytime she wants and acting entitled to him. I have to say I found Duncan kind of a jerk about Amanda towards Tessa. He smiles all gushy and says: "that's Amanda" when they first meet as if tho Tessa is supposed to know what that means. Then acts like Amanda being a thief and getting him in trouble is cute. I just found that he was complicit in rubbing his past relationship with Amanda in Tessa's face. Tessa is jealous and Duncan definitely doesn't help matters. To be fair, he does reassure, but it's kind of weak on his part.

Duncan does have a flashback of Amanda. Not sure the time period. A couple hundred years maybe. She and Duncan are lovers. Amanda steals from a baron. Leaves behind a ring that implicates Duncan. She takes off in the middle of the night and meets up with her partner Zachary. The soldiers go after Duncan for the theft. He makes a swashbuckling escape. He thinks it's funny that Amanda stole his horse. It was a fun flashback. But as you can see, Amanda gets Duncan in trouble and he just laughs it off. He explains to Tessa that Amanda made him laugh when there wasn't much to laugh about. Except we see him laugh all the time as young Duncan so this doesn't really jive. Later in the series, you see Duncan ride hard on other immortals that they can make a difference in their life and do something meaningful, and be anything, they could get a job, or riding them hard to stop being a criminal. But with Amanda, he just kinda shrugs.

Eventually, Duncan stops Amanda and Zachary's theft plan. Duncan and Zachary fight. Duncan is about to take his head when Amanda interferes after Duncan did all the fight work, and she takes his head. One of "the rules" of the immortals is that when two immortals are fighting no others can interfere. Amanda just broke one of the freaking rules! But guess what? No consequence! It's as if the writers themselves forgot about the rule. How stupid. Headdesk.

I'd like to point out something overall about Amanda. It appears she can't sword fight. She always loses or Duncan fights for her. Hey, I would've have loved seeing her as a strong female warrior, but she wasn't. It's a mystery how she got her own series later, 'The Raven.'

After Amanda takes Zachary's head she tried to entice Duncan to go away with her, and then she says Tessa is going to get old. I found this disgusting. Especially coming from a woman. One of the most romantic things in the Highlander Universe is that Connor Macleod stayed with his Heather even as she got old until she died, and loved her right up until the end. Anyway, Duncan told Amanda he didn't care about Tessa getting older.

I hate that they broke one of the rules without any consequence. Amanda, tho cute and charming is also annoying and seems to lack self-awareness and even empathy a little. Duncan's regarding Amanda's antics as cute, and his indifference towards Tessa's feelings turned me off. I gave the episode a 5/10.
