Writers dumb down Richie for a plot point. Bad immortal loves beauty, but doesn't dig deeper. Major plot gaffe that is affected in season two.

Warning: Spoilers
An immortal fashion designer, Gabriel, obsessed with beautiful things is a thief of many antiques and art and other relics that are associated with the most beautiful woman in history. A model with whom he is secretly having an affair with, Cynthia, discovers his stolen stash and he kills her.

It seemed stupid that killed her over this. She didn't seem like she was outraged and really wanted to call the police. She's almost passive about it and probably would have kept quiet. For a guy that appreciates beautiful woman he sure doesn't observe them really well. But maybe that's the point of a guy that can only appreciate the surface without bothering to dig deeper.

Some cute moments when Richie ordered "fruits de mer," and he meets Maya. Maya is badly dubbed here in that awful monotone that they used for most of the French actors. Later when Duncan, Tessa, and Richie are at one of Gabriel's fashion shows, he meets Maya again who is a fashion model.

The police inform them about Cynthia's death. So was Richie's immediate jumping to the conclusion that Gabriel killed her because he wanted him to be guilty of something since it appeared Gabriel was interested in Maya and has a snobbish dismissive attitude towards Richie? I think so. Even tho he turned out to be right. That initial reaction was just too quick.

Maya finds Cynthia's other earring that was missing from her body. She tells Richie. I found it stupid that she didn't give it to the police. I know her reason was that she was worried about her career, but she said the police asked her specifically about the missing earring. She should have just given it to them.

Richie breaks in Gabriel's place and Gabriel finds him. Richie sets him on fire and takes off. Mac is furious at Richie for placing himself in danger. Speaking of Mac he didn't have much to on the episode. Just practicing tai chi and staff training with long montages. I'd rather they did something with Duncan and Tessa spending time together. Those scenes just seemed like a waste of time.

There are a couple of flashbacks of Duncan and Gabriel showing their friendship and swashbuckling adventures together. Gabriel ends up owing Mac a favor which he now asks by asking him to leave Richie alone.

There's a major plot-hole gaffe. Gabriel says to Duncan: "You'd risk your life and challenge me for a mortal?" In season 2 episode 4 'The Darkness," there is a revelation causing this line to make no sense.

Richie has a funny blind-man skit in order to obtain a gun. This is after Gabriel agrees to Duncan that he won't hurt Richie. But then later calls Richie and says he has Maya and to come alone to see him. Richie shows up but the police promptly arrest him. Here's the part I hated about Richie in this episode. As he's being arrested all defiant and struggling he blurts out not only that Gabriel killed Cynthia, but that Maya found the earring, thereby placing her life in danger as Gabriel knows nothing of Maya being suspicious of him let alone having Cynthia's other earring. This reeked of the writers dumbing down Richie simply so they could set up a confrontation situation between Duncan and Gabriel. I didn't like this at all. Don't dumb down characters just get to the next plot point. It's lazy writing. Do better.

Duncan saves Maya from being killed and then fights Gabriel. From the way they fought in slow movements and similar posturing it appears they have similar training and perhaps even trained together. Duncan kills Gabriel and afterward he is visibly upset. Great job by Adrian Paul conveying the emotions of grief and anger. I gave the episode a 6/10

some like this epi, I count this on the lower end. was just... Warning: Spoilers
Somehow this epi "rubbed me the wrong way", this Piton ugg, and how was Mac friends with this man? Ya he has been friends with many that are not of the norm, but supposedly "pleasing" women ehrph give me a break, think Mac knew he may have killed in the past too even if making fun about stealing, ya Mac has friends (Amanda) who steal, but...Piton he really doesn't care about anyone else's happiness but his own...Ya the actor NT plays the guy well, making him come across the way he is suppose to, so that was done well. Mac letting him "live" in the past saying he has a gift, no, no gift, happiness is the deception, 1 persons his own is not a gift.

Cute with Richie meeting the cute girl, Maya before and the argument over the "fruit", and Richie trying to save her but may have put her in more danger. Mac gets there in time and finally kills Piton (good ridden's) but Mac crying at the end ? was this guy really a friend ? in the past he broke his promises and really, didn't hear Mac say much diff other than guess Mac really was blind to not see his "friend" really did not care for anyone but himself!!! The 1 past fight seen Mac won let him go, but we all know Piton would have killed Mac.

gave it a five, in the middle as did not hate the epi, just didn't like...OK some will think man bashing, (as put in another review, Amanda kinda grew on me and will explain in later epis esp the last one why) and also Richie and the filler part for him...another show with Richie showing "stones" (without thought much to Macs not liking...well we do know laters...) and just what kind of person Richie is and can be or even could be (explain or not as it is sorta done for us laters)
