Many of these early episodes have pretty much only been noteworthy for the sea-faring vessels shown at various times.
Such is the case here when Jason must bring back a doctor for the women when they start having babies. He brings back Kathleen Widdoes, which apparently no one was expecting a woman doctor.
The men object to her for being a woman who is more than the dutiful barefoot-and-pregnant wife, while the women object to her for potentially being a rival for the men's affections.
Something like that.
Widdoes gives a good bit with the sea captain and yellow was her color, but the testiness over her being a woman falls rather short.
While the show would have greatly benefited from her staying on as a town doctor, it really was a role then that should have been recast if Widdoes wasn't available or interested in the part.
Little House would prove townsfolk are important parts of a story worth watching.
A shame Here Come The Brides didn't catch on to that.
