A bleak middle part to a three-part story
Tweekums27 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
After the supposed victory at the end of the first part things quickly go down hill for Moya's crew; they get to the site of the slave auction and learn that Scorpius has beaten them to it and purchased the lot that contained D'Argo's son. They will have to mount a second mission against the shadow depository and this time they will be expected! In order to succeed they will need help from some of the less pleasant characters they encountered earlier in the series. While John, Aeryn and D'Argo are off Moya looking for this 'help' Rygel and Chiana decide to help themselves to some of the loot and discover that far from being rich they are in great danger as the ingots are in fact metal eating creatures and they are devouring Moya?

This episode was bleaker than most; just about everything that could go wrong did and the ending left a member of the crew in Scorpius' custody. Where things did go right it was at great cost; clearing the infestation caused great pain and damage to Moya. It was good to see some old enemies again even if circumstances have meant they aren't quite as menacing as they were before. It had been made clear previously that Scorpius was a fairly unpleasant enemy and his killing of the slaves will only serve to reinforce that view. When not killing slaves and taunting Moya's crew Scorpius gets kinky with Natira; something disturbing and amusing in equal measures! There are one or two happy moments at least... such as when Rygel takes the head of an old enemy.

A bit of plagiarism

Warning: Spoilers
At the end of part 1 of this 3 part story, they showed a metallic spider crawling out of a box. Part 2 showed that there were hundreds of these little spiders. As soon as it showed the scene where the hall was filled with all these little spiders, I immediately thought of Stargate SG-1. In the Stargate SG-1 episode called Nemesis, which aired March 10, 2000, (nearly a full year before this episode of Farscape aired) there were these tiny spiders that were running amok on the Asgard ship. The writers of Farscape plagiarized this from Stargate SG-1. The rest of the episode is quite different of course, but they took this part from another show. I was rather disappointed by their lack of originality. The way that they dealt with the spiders eating up Moya was different and I didn't really care for their solution to the problem.

The rest of the episode deals with the crew trying to hire a bunch of different mercenaries to help them get Jothee from Scorpius. It was kind of interesting how they went about hiring the various mercenaries. We get to see quite a few of the old enemies brought back and actually allying with the Farscape crew. A nice little twist.

This is only the 2nd part of this 3 part story, so it ends with a little bit of a cliffhanger. I don't want to totally ruin the story for you, so I will just say that things do not exactly work out as everyone was planning and hoping.

One thing that I am getting tired of is Scorpius. They really seem to have glommed onto his character. I think that they have overused him and I am frankly not really happy that he is still such a large part of the story line. I have been watching this whole series from the beginning on Netflix. I have looked at Wayne Pygram on IMDb and, sadly, it seems that there are going to be a lot more episodes featuring Scorpius. At this point, I am not sure just how many more of these that I will watch. As I said, I am quite tired of seeing the Scorpius character. I think that they went overboard on using him.
