Finally, Some Love and Happiness For Skippy!
spasek22 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Of all the Skippy episodes, this one is my favorite. One had to begin wondering if anything would ever go right for the guy. Yes, he's dense and annoying most of the time, but as the show progressed, and after he and Mallory finally came to terms at the end of last season, you had to wonder if he'd ever find some spark of happiness.

Mallory has a friend at her college Amy Sussman, and of course, as soon as Skippy meets her, he's already head-over-heels in typical Skippy fashion. Amy is sweet and kind to Skippy, and frankly, at the time I watched this episode when it aired, she reminded me a lot of the girl that I was dating at the time. Of course, the next big question is that, once Skippy finally has a girlfriend, how will things progress? They have a disastrous dinner together at a restaurant, and a night alone together at Amy's dorm room doesn't go nearly as well as either of them had hoped. Skippy has always had a problem with taking things slow and letting things happen naturally. He finally learns this lesson at the end of the episode as he and Amy share a sweet kiss with the understanding that there is no need to rush anything.

The truly humorous aspect of this episode is Steven trying to plan a surprise birthday party for Elyse. We find out that it's something he's terrible at. Of course, Elyse finds out about it, and does her best to play along with Steven's plans, including a bust of an entrance!

Sonia Curtis (Amy Sussman) did a magnificent job in the role. We have no problem believing that she likes Skippy, and we realize that she sees something in Skippy that not many others do. Skippy may be nineteen, but he's had very little world experience. He's very naïve. It doesn't take long for us to realize that Amy is in the same boat, although she's definitely a bit more mature than Skippy (which obviously isn't hard to do). It's a shame that Amy Sussman wasn't seen much beyond this episode.

This is a cute episode of first love, and I always enjoy this one when it comes around.
