Proof that William Shatner really can be a fine, fine actor
planktonrules8 August 2021
I've heard a lot of folks over the years complain about William Shatner's acting...or, should I say over-acting. However, this seems a bit unfair and doesn't really address all of his acting...just some. I have noticed when Shatner has had a lousy director (such as William Grefé in "Impulse" or José Briz Méndez in "White Comanche", he does seem to overact. But when he is given good direction, he can be a truly fine actor...such as here in "Antennae of Death". Virgil Vogel was able to get an Emmy-worthy performance here, as the acting was subdued and Shatner sure did some fine acting without even talking...just by his facial expressions. In particular, when he is playing a junkie who is in need of a fix. This scene could have been comical...but really was done exceptionally well.

The story begins with Arthur Majors (Shatner) and three of his compatriots trying to cross over the US-Mexican border with illegal drugs. Well, two are caught...but soon their friends arrive and shoot the border guards...leaving them to perhaps die.

When Majors returns to see his mob boss, the boss is furious....as violence of that type isn't tolerated in the organization. As a result, Majors is told to stay put...he's temporarily out of business. But Majors and his three friends are addicts...and addicts have terrible judgment. So, soon they come up with an insane plan...to rob one of the mob's couriers!! They do get the money...but the couriers escape and tell their bosses. Now it's a race....who will get to Majors and his buddies first...the mob or the FBI?

As I said already, the special guest star, Shatner, is really good here...at his best. No ranting, no hysterics...just good acting as well as a very good script. Well worth your time.
