Episodes The Art of Taking a Powder Read the Book and Then See the Picture

This is basically an hour episode which would have been shown as such in previous seasons but is cut into two half hours for the final season format. It's one of the better 5th season episodes.

Joe DeSantis plays a dying chef who has run a family restaurant for 30 years. He has two sons: one is loyal and has stayed home to help his father out. The other, (John Saxon), has left to become an actor, to his father's displeasure. He's exaggerated his success and his future, (he doesn't seem to have one). He's virtually broke, having bought a fancy car. His father always loved fancy cars and bought a new one whenever things were going well. He wants his father to leave his deathbed to see the fancy new car he's bought a symbol of success, before he dies.

Naturally his dream of getting his father's approval fizzles but Saxon finds out after his father's death what went unsaid in life.
