Roy Bean --- The Early Years
bkoganbing18 April 2017
Back in his salad days Tom Skerritt starred as a young Roy Bean who later would dispense some rather rough justice in the town of Vinegaroon, Texas. But this Death Valley Days story concerns his early years and an incident in San Diego where young Bean was visiting his brother Tris Coffin who was mayor of the small village of San Diego.

Bean mixed it up with a couple of the local toughs and one of them challenged him. After fair warning from Coffin he got arrested after wounding the one who challenged him. It could mean 10 years if the hidebound Coffin has his way.

Let's say that others in the community had a fairer sense of justice than Coffin appeared to have. Nice performances from Skerritt, Coffin, and from Toian Matchinga the girl whose seductive ways started the whole incident in the first place.

Did Skerritt's later ideas of justice get influenced here? You be the judge.
