Part of the I Spy legend
jwpeel-15 April 2009
Hilton Lucas tells his boarder Griffin about the show I Spy and how cool it was while sitting down to a marathon of the show. After a while, he falls asleep and dreams that he is the oh so cool Alexander Scott on a mission with his partner Kelly Robinson to rid the world of spies against the good people of our country. Robert Culp takes part in this sweet parody of a groundbreaking series along with the rest of the cast members making this a part of the show's enduring legend. For those of you not in on the joke, it is a shame that you don't know about a show that showed for the first time in television history a black man in a position of equal footing with his white counterpart instead of what came before - which was a domestic or something lower than one of any real contributors to our American way of life. It may not be the most brilliant of comedy writing, but it is a loving tribute to a vastly underrated TV classic in the days of shows like "Star Trek" (which was broadcast at the same time on the same network) and every other spy show that came as a result of the James Bond film franchise, One day, that aforementioned show will be seen as a television classic. And this was also one of the last times the world would see the beauty of the work of the great Madeline Kahn who lost her battle with cancer that same year. I'm glad I was around to see all of the above and that I could add it to my personal library alongside the marvelous show "I Spy!"
