"The Rainmaker" opens with a Canadian tourist (Beatrice Colen, second of two) searching through the mug book for a purse snatcher, while Barney announces an opening in vice if anyone's interested. Much to his surprise, Harris, Dietrich, and Wojo all show an interest in escaping their daily monotony by transferring to midtown, to Levitt's expected delight. Their captain reminds all three however, that after they all move on to different precincts, he'll be the one still stuck back at the 12th. Meanwhile, NYC is paralyzed by a severe drought, during which a call comes in about possible arson in Washington Square. It turns out that the culprit, Walter Dooley (J. Pat O'Malley, last of three), is a professional rainmaker since The Great Depression, contracted by Water Department official Ernest Lun (Leonard Stone, fourth of five) to produce a little rain. Lun's initial embarrassment over the situation turns to sheer delight when a cloudburst gushes forth a great quantity of rainfall. On his way out, Dooley expresses an interest in taking his talents over to Afghanistan ("it might be fun to muck it up for the Russkies!").
