"Protection" starts with a suspect (Ray Sharkey, second and last appearance) insisting he robbed Cotterman's liquor store the day before, wanting to be locked up to avoid getting harassed by the 'protection racket' recently formed in anticipation of the 12th closing down (even a teary-eyed Inspector Luger drops in to say goodbye). Jack Somack as Cotterman (second of six) denies any crime took place and refuses to press charges. Wojo brings in Anthony 'The Emperor' Barelli (Ralph Manza, first of seven), a syndicate bigshot from 1942, who would rather talk about 1923! ("maybe honesty is the best policy, but you always wind up with a desk like that!"). As for protection, Barelli can only remember one name- Don Corleone! ("or was that the movie?").
