Native Americans and Elderly Women On The War Path
chashans21 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Some oddities when it comes to descriptions given by witnesses in this episode. First, a woman describes a man who has possibly planted a bomb at a bar. The man pays room and board at her house. She compares the man to Sergeant MacDonald who is on scene. Same height and weight, 40 years old, maybe 45. Now, Sergeant MacDonald is shown standing next to Reed who is a few inches taller. When the partners catch up with the bomber, he towers over Reed and looks to be about 65 years old.

Later, a Native American male tells the partners that there's going to be a fight to the death. One of the fighters is known to Malloy. The guy looks about 27 years old. He's going to fight another Native American who has been dating the 27 year old's sister. She is said to be 16 years old. When we see the fight in action, the other dude looks to be about 45 years old! No wonder it's a fight to the death!

The scene with the boy (Season of the Child continues!) who thinks a chunk of Fool's Gold is the real thing, and his neighborhood friend, an old man who has been shot is touching. Not terribly well acted, but not terribly acted either.

The mustached fireman rival of DeSoto and Gage on "Emergency!" appears as a Pizza Delivery Man who tries delivering a pie to the wrong address. The frightened, yet raging elderly woman who apparently detests pizza, is funny. She yaps at the Delivery Man who drops the pizza face-down on her front porch to "get that mess cleaned up!" At least she didn't demand his arrest.

Note that the matter of witnesses who give terrible descriptions of perpetrators of crimes, will continue in the following episodes.

Malloy and Reed get calls for bombing and later a fight among Native Americans.

A pretty good episode. It starts with a bang as a bomb goes off in a bar. A shakedown artist is threatening small business owners, unless they pay, their place gets destroyed. A boy played by Gerald Michenaud looks for gold with his old friend Charlie. Michenaud had memorable roles in "The Naked Kiss" and one of the best episodes of "The Flying Nun". The comedy part of the show is provided by Tim Donnelly (on many episodes of "Dragnet") as a pizza delivery guy who goes to the wrong address. It ends with two Native Americans having a fight to the death.

This episode, frankly, is hard to watch. The calls are not very interesting and seem to be recycled from previous episodes.

What really made this hard for me to watch is simply bad acting by most of the victims.

The worst come from Geas and Borsella, who play the two Native Americans. Very stiff and seem to yell throughout. Their acting is so bad that their scenes are hard to stomach. Their "wrestling" is downright comical. I don't know how accurate it is or if it's just fictional "Indian" wrestling as written by non-Natives in the 1970s.

The little boy whoses older friend is shot is not much better but he's a kid so what do you expect.

Malloy and Reed are fine but seem out of place among this B team of talent.
