"That's impossible!"
MaxBorg8920 December 2007
Over the course of 19 episodes, the first season of 24 came up with some very neat twists (the fake Alan York being the obvious front-runner). Few of those (and plot turns from later years too), however, could beat the twentieth hour's biggest revelation in sheer audacity and brilliance.

It is quite fitting that such a shocker occurs in this show, the most claustrophobic of the season: a large part of it takes place in an underground detention center. This place was found by Jack, who's now interested in uncovering the identity of the only prisoner in the facility, a mysterious man whom Andre Drazen wants to either set free or kill. Back in Los Angeles, Teri, now aware of her identity, is taken to CTU after she was attacked in her own house, Kim fails to convince the DEA she isn't a criminal, and David Palmer realizes his marriage has reached the point of no return.

Given events take place late in the evening, the outside darkness adds to the tense mood, which is increased by the slow disruption of Palmer's affections for his wife: with Haysbert quietly solemn and Johnson furiously determined, their discussion on allegiance and honesty comes close to stealing the limelight from Jack's misadventures; fortunately, that doesn't happen, thanks to Sutherland's sweaty intensity, the startling revelation of the prisoner's identity and a cliffhanger ending ("They're coming.") that's as hair-raising as they come.

It Is Over
claudio_carvalho28 October 2007
On the day of the California Presidential Primary, between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM, George Mason returns to interrogate Alexis while Jack decides to stay for further investigation of the location. Jack finds a secret military prison and the surprising identity of the new arrival prisoner. Meanwhile Tony brings Teri with him to CTU. David Palmer finds how ambitious Sherry is and that his marriage is over. Kim is arrested in jail in the precinct.

In the twentieth episode of "24", Kim is having an unforgettable lesson arrested with smalltime crooks and criminals in jail. The virtue of honesty is appreciated by the voters and Palmer finally sees how spiteful his wife is. And Jack discloses the classified identity of the mysterious prisoner. My vote is nine.

Dead eyes
kingsx_6422 March 2020
There are two types of "villains" in the film industry. One's we hate and want dead because they annoy us. And those who we love to watch even though they're bad. Although it's great to see the introduction of Dennis Hopper, (RIP) I feel Penny Johnson Jerald (Sherry Palmer) steals this episode. At first we think she is a regular, old fashioned power hungry wife. But in this episode it appears they have added another layer. The possibility she might actually be insane,,,,,at least to some degree, is put on the table. Now, when Senator Palmer talks to his wife, we see the blank stare looking back. We see she has dead eyes. And how can I not marvel at the actress for chilling my blood with this great performance. Also great to see Lou Diamond Phillips as the head of the prison bunker. Doc Scurlock and Chavez y Chavez back together again....

A Big Time Surprise
Hitchcoc4 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Jack's efforts to stop something that is going to happen in the desert lead to an amazing discovery. He needs to take a small number of men who are not soldiers and use them to drive off the brothers who are trying to get back their father. He was supposed to be dead but there is Dennis Hopper. But things are not over. Meanwhile, Kimberly is in jail with a bunch baddies. She didn't present herself well in her interview and sounded like a nut. This is really going to set up the final four episodes.

Teri's resilience and Kim's growing courage add depth to their characters, making their struggle for survival all the more compelling. Their scenes are effectively interspersed with Jack's action-packed storyline, providing a balanced narrative that keeps viewers emotionally invested.

Senator Palmer's storyline also takes a significant turn as he confronts the escalating scandal head-on. Critics have praised episode twenty for its strong character development and the seamless integration of its various plotlines. The pacing is brisk, with each scene building on the last to create a sense of mounting urgency. The episode's direction and cinematography are also highly regarded, with dynamic camera work and tight editing that heighten the suspense. However, some have noted that the relentless pace and constant plot twists can be exhausting, potentially detracting from the emotional impact of the story. Despite this, episode twenty is a standout installment, advancing the plot while deepening the audience's connection to the characters.
