I still haven't seen Joe Carnahan's Smokin' Aces, but the high energy hitman flick it seems to have a fair amount of fans out there. (Personally I always thought it looked like a Guy Ritchie knockoff, but maybe I'm wrong on that.) At any rate, the film was apparently popular enough to warrant a direct-to-dvd sequel... er, I mean, prequel. Joe Carnahan obviously has better things to do with his time (like directing The A-Team, for example), but he is still credited as executive producer on Smokin' Aces 2: Assassin's Ball. The actual director of this flick, unfortunately, is P.J. Pesce -- the same man behind such memorable Dtv flicks as Lost Boys: The Tribe and From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter. None of the big name original cast members are returning for this film, but Tommy Flanagan will reprise his role as Lazlo Soot, and »

Sure, the title of the direct-to-dvd follow-up to Joe Carnahan's wicked violent Smokin' Aces isn't Electric Bugaloo, but I happen to like it better than Smokin' Aces 2: Assassin's Ball. So sue me. This prequel, from director P.J. Pesce (Lost Boys: The Tribe), follows the story of several of the world's greatest, sexiest and most obnoxiously insane assassins -- all looking to kill one man, the criminally pedestrian Tom Berenger. More specifically, the plot goes something like this: Walter Weed (Tom Berenger) is an unassuming desk jockey at the FBI when the Bureau uncovers a plot to assassinate him. A team of degenerate, psychotic assassins dispatched by mystery man Hal Leuco to win a huge bounty includes a resourceful beauty who has a unique method of killing her prey (Martha Higareda), a power-tool wielding psychopath (Vinnie Jones) and a deadly master of disguise (Tommy Flanagan). Also in the hunt is the fan-favorite Tremor family from »

The prequel to Joe Carnahan's kinetic hitman flick Smokin' Aces arrives on DVD this January 19th, and looks to have more of the same stylish and excessive violence, courtesy of Vinnie Jones and some different members of the Tremor clan. I always thought people were a bit too hard on Smokin' Aces. I liked it. The dialogue was great, the action was there (could have been a bit more), and the twist was er, interesting. So when I heard that Smokin' Joe Carnahan was doing The A-Team, I couldn't help but be interested. Then 20th Century Fox got Bradley Cooper, Sharlto Copley (coming off District 9) and Liam Neeson to enlist...
This is The A-Team
And here they are. The good people at Salondelmal have posted what looks to be the first official production photo for The A-Team. The site, however, didn't seem ready for the popularity of the image, it's currently down, so I posted it below. »

Friday, the first promo photo from the forthcoming big screen adaptation of The A-Team surfaced online, which you can see directly above.
It's a great image, actually, and really seems to evoke the aesthetic and "cheek" of the '80s series. In the pic you can see (L to R) Bradley Cooper as Faceman, Quinto "Rampage" Jackson as BA Baracus, Sharlto Copley (District 9) as Murdock...and, of course, Liam Neeson as Hannibal.
Plus, lest we forget, on the extreme left you can see the infamous black van, which seems to be a fairly faithful reproduction of the 1983 Gmc G-Series (G-15) van.
Ya gotta love it when a plan comes together.
The story concerns four wrongly convicted veterans, who escape from prison to become do-gooder mercenaries. The cast also includes Patrick Wilson (Watchmen) and Jessica Biel as an Army general — and Faceman's ex-love interest — in pursuit of the team.

Man this photo is contrasty! A few weeks back we brought you the very first spy shot of the four members of The A-Team shooting in in Canada (and the first photo of the van roaming around as well). Now we have the actual first official photo from Fox for Joe Carnahan's The A-Team for your viewing pleasure. It was sent over to us by the SalonDelMal blog, but it's popping up everywhere, so I'm sure you find it anywhere. I've gotta say, from the looks of it, they really did choose a perfect cast for this. They all look badass and they're all pretty damn talented too (except Quinton Jackson?). Anyway, take a look at the big full photo below! Mr. T is nowhere to be found in this movie adaptation of the tongue-in-cheek '80's action series from director Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces). But if stars Liam Neeson (Col. John "Hannibal" Smith) and Bradley Cooper (Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck) have their way, this version will still be mui macho. "When my agent said, A-Team, I said, 'oh, please,'" recalls Neeson, who, after the success of Taken and an upcoming role as Zeus in Clash of the Titans, has unexpectedly hit the action hero phase of his career. "Some of these films can be so empty and bland, but this was riveting. »

The ideal action film contains more than just kick ass combat and carnage... it should also have a smart script and characters that make us care whether or not they survive or end up with a grenade shoved up their ass. But as with most ideals the films that accomplish all that can be counted on two or three hands. That short list would include flicks like Die Hard, Lethal Weapon (1 & 2), Terminator (1 & 2), and all three Bourne movies. The best we can hope for in most cases though is an extremely high degree of ridiculousness, one-note characters, and non-stop action scenes that shock and awe us into glee-filled submission. Welcome to The Tournament... Every seven years thirty of the world's best assassins descend upon an unsuspecting small town and spend the next twenty-four hours trying to kill each other. The last hit-man (or hit-woman) standing receives a $10 million cash prize and the title of King Shit until »

A dizzying array of elements are involved in creating a movie poster -- everything from contractual requirements dictating the size of the stars' names to psychological studies on which colors and fonts produce which emotions in viewers. But Ron Henriques at Latino Review suggests there might be more to it. In a very amusing article -- or an infuriating one, depending on how seriously you take it -- he shows multiple examples of what he considers racist "rules" in the way minorities are shown in posters.
For example, Henriques says it's only Ok for a minority (he's mostly talking about African Americans) to brandish a gun in a movie poster if they're cops, secret agents, or FBI. What's more, he says, the posters tend to make it clear that the person is in law enforcement, either through costume elements or in the text on the poster, lest observers think he's a criminal. »

The Tournament is one of the year's best action movies. Yup, I said it. It releases on Tuesday, and I'll have a full review up on the same day, but for now trust me when I say this is one very cool and bloody romp. Unbelievable and highly implausible sure, but filled with fantastic fights, gunplay, and bloody squib-filled bodies. Every seven years thirty of the best assassins in the world descend on a small town where they proceed to fight to the death for a giant cash prize. Each player is surgically embedded with a tracker and given a handheld Gps so they can see the other assassins. The town is wired with closed-circuit cameras, the phone lines are rerouted to prevent pesky interference from law enforcement, and a room filled with wealthy gamblers watches the whole thing on CCTV and places their bets on who will win this year's contest. It's »

British production company Working Title Films (The Soloist, Smokin' Aces) has plans to remake the Icelandic thriller Reykjavik-Rotterdam, and they want Mark Wahlberg to contribute more than just his money. Wahlberg is currently attached to produce, but the company would like to see him step in front of the camera to play the lead in the movie as well.
Reykjavik-Rotterdam, directed by Oskar Johnsson, won five Edda awards at this year's Icelandic movie awards and will be Iceland's foreign-lanugage submission to the 2010 Oscars. The movie tells the story of a smuggler who is struggling to go straight until his friend persuades him to commit one last illicit job. Working Title has hired Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) to adapt the Reykjavik-Rotterdam script for an American audience.
Wahlberg recently wrapped filming on director David O. Russell's The Fighter alongside Christian Bale. He is currently shooting The Other Guys with Will Ferrelll, an »

We recently got a look at the entire main cast of "The A-Team" and now we have two photos of Jessica Biel on a German airport set in Vancouver. She is playing the role of an Army general and the ex-love of Bradley Cooper's Faceman character in pursuit of the team. Check the photos out below. The story focuses on four wrongly convicted veterans, who escape from prison to become do-gooder mercenaries. In addition to Cooper and Biel, the film also stars Liam Neeson as Hannibal, Sharlto Copley (District 9) as Murdock, and Quinto "Rampage" Jackson as BA Baracus. The new movie is directed by Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces, Narc), who has promised for the tone to be less silly and more slick. It is scheduled to hit theaters on June 11th, 2010. What is Bradley Cooper up to? Well, he's shooting (literally) the new A-team movie of course under the watchful wing of Smokin' Aces helmer Joe Carnahan. Here is Brad as Templeton Peck, aka Face, on set. We have also been treated to the very first images of the lovely Jessica Biel, who is snapped on set. Still no word on who she plays in the scheme of things though. More images of the cast here.

A few weeks back we featured the first photo of the infamous van from The A-Team. Now we finally have a photo showing all four lead actors that are part of the "team" shooting up in Vancouver. ComingSoon has the photo and it's not the greatest quality, but for some reason I'm just excited seeing this. From left to right there is: Quinton "Rampage" Jackson looking a bit upset, Liam Neeson with some short grey hair, Sharlto Copley looking pretty much the same, and Bradley Cooper looking a little more sleek. As I already said, it's just exciting (for me at least) to see the four of these guys standing together. Can't wait for more photos! The folks over at Coming Soon have scored a big win by bagging the very first image of the brand new A-Team on set up in Vancouver.
The new film, directed by Smokin' Aces helmer Joe Carnahan, stars Liam Neeson as John "Hannibal" Smith, Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck, Sharlto Copley as Capt. "Howling Mad" Murdock, and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson as Sgt. "B.A." Baracus.
Rock on! The film opens in theaters on June 11, 2010. As you can tell, that is an image of the old A-Team above. You can see the image of the new cast on set and in costume right here! »
