M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Devil’ Headed for the Screen [Updated]

16 October 2009 8:48 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

[Update: We've now have a synopsis about the plot of Devil]

M. Night Shyamalan is one of those divisive directors in Hollywood - not because of politically controversial film topics like say Michael Moore, or over-the-top art house edge like Lars von Trier. He doesn’t even make it into the mainstream news media spouting off-hand remarks, or getting picked up while driving drunk, flinging anti-Semitic racial slurs. No, Shyamalan divides audiences into those that love his work and those that don’t because of his story telling; there’s no real fence-riding when it comes to his films.

Shyamalan’s next story, Devil, a horror-thriller, is being backed by Universal and directed by brothers John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle (Quarantine) with actor Chris Messina (Julie and Julia) attached to star. Brian Nelson (30 Days of Night) wrote the script based on Shyamalan’s story, the details of which are being kept a tightly guarded secret. I’m not really sure »

Chris Messina is Shyamalan’s Devil

16 October 2009 6:27 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Chris Messina, recently seen in Away We Go and Julie & Julia, has been signed to star in Devil, based on a story by M. Night Shyamalan (cue warning bells) and directed by Quarantine co-helmers John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle.

I’m endlessly surprised by how quickly a film can go into production after a casting decision is made: filming for Devil will start ten days from now, in Toronto, Canada. The film is a product of Shyamalan and Media Rights Capital’s “Night Chronicles,” which will produce one horror-suspense genre film a year. I don’t know if this means they’ll all be from the mind of Shyamalan, but I doubt it.

Brian Nelson, the writer of 30 Days of Night, wrote the script, which is being kept under tight wraps — likely because there’s some sort of twist involved!

We’ll see if Shyamalan’s production deal pans »

What are Your Guilty Pleasure Movies, but Don't Like to Admit It?

14 October 2009 12:38 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I thought the response to my "Do You Ever Lie about the Movies You've Seen? " post was excellent, and on top of everything so many of you said, several new questions came as a result. One of them, offered by 'Steve Mott', asks the question in the headline: Do you have guilty pleasures you don't like to admit to?

Steve lists his guilty pleasure as 10 Things I Hate About You, a film I personally love and was just discussing recently with a friend when the topic of "Where the hell did Julia Stiles go?" came up. To that effect I also love Save the Last Dance and to answer the Stiles question before someone gets smart in the comments, yes, she has the Bourne films and wrote and directed a film starring Zooey Deschanel and has also been doing plenty of work on stage. Moving along...

Fangoria Profile: The Music & Cinema of Rob Zombie

23 August 2009 7:01 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

A certified Fango Fiend and winner of a 2006 Fangoria Chainsaw Award for his "Killer Film", The Devil's Rejects, Rob Zombie has built an impressive career in multiple creative mediums.

Now, with his second visit to Haddonfield set to arrive in U.S. theaters this Friday, Fangoria takes a look at the music and cinema of Rob Zombie, from White Zombie to Halloween II.

The Man

Rob Zombie (born Robert Bartleh Cummings) has harbored an affinity for the macabre since childhood. Obsessed with the sinister, and fascinated by self conjured grim fantasies, Zombie was destined to swim the dark waters. His early professional journeys into the genre saw him traveling into the musical realm alongside his band White Zombie (named for the 1932 film starring Bela Lugosi), which Rob founded in 1985. White Zombie’s aggressive and pernicious sound won crowds over, and Zombie’s menacing lyrics made the man and band a »

All about new 'Eclipse' actress Bryce Dallas Howard (video)

29 July 2009 12:03 AM, PDT | Twilight Examiner | See recent Twilight Examiner news »

.. Most recently (aside from the news of her being cast in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse for former Rachelle Lefevre role Victoria), Bryce Dallas Howard wrote a screenplay entitled The Originals that Ron Howard will be directing. In an interview that she had with Cinema Spy in June about her role in Terminator Salvation, Howard talked about walking onto a franchise set with returning actors such as Christian Bale ... In 2004's Book Of Love, though, Howard really got her start with the role of Heather. That same year, her major starring role as Ivy in M. Night Shyamalan's feature film The Village made its way to the big screen. She would later return to working with Shyamalan on Lady In The Water. Howard has also appeared in films such as Manderlay, As You LIke It, Orchids (a short), Spider-Man 3, and Terminator Salvation ... »

Bryce Dallas Howard Writes The Originals

8 June 2009 9:16 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

There’s a good chance that there’s nothing Bryce Dallas Howard can’t do. She’s a damn fine actress, with the ability to emerge unscathed from some awful, awful films (yes, Lady In The Water/Spidey 3, we’re looking at you). She carries off the whole three names thing with aplomb. She could probably knock together a cure for swine flu in the time it takes us to write this opening paragraph.Oh, and now she’s turning her hand to screenwriting with a drama called The Originals. And the search for a director didn’t take long – her dad, Ron Howard, may choose the small, intimate project as his next movie after the big-budget Angels & Demons. The Originals will mark the first time that father and daughter have worked together since she played Surprised Who in How The Grinch Stole Christmas, waaaaaay back in 2000. And, just to »

Last Airbender pics

21 May 2009 11:20 PM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Something happened to M. Night Shyamalan. After The Sixth Sense the guy just had so much potential which he lived up to with Unbreakable, and then Signs. Um, we all know what happened next. Now USA Today has published these first two photos of Noah Ringer as Aang and Dev Patel as Prince Zuko in Shyamalan's next film The Last Airbender, and although I'm sad that Shyamalan is not directing his original material anymore, I just have to think about The Village, The Happening, and Lady In The Water to bring me back down to earth. »

Jared Harris Discusses The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

1 May 2009 1:31 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The actor talks about his role in the film, working with Brad Pitt and David Fincher, Fringe and more

Jared Harris has the acting bug in his genes, but that doesn't mean he didn't forge his way through the biz on his own. Jared, the son of legendary actor Richard Harris, became first known for his portrayal of Andy Warhol in the 1996 indie I Shot Andy Warhol, which lead to a spate of work throughout the 90s that lead to bigger studio films like roles in Mr. Deeds, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Ocean's Twelve and Lady In the Water. Harris' latest role was in the Best Picture nominee The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which will be released on DVD, a very rare new-release Criterion Collection two-disc DVD and Criterion Collecton Blu-ray on May 5. I had the chance to speak with Harris, who portrayed Captain Mike in the film, over the phone, »

The Giamatti Version

23 April 2009 4:28 AM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Paul Giamatti will headline Barney's Version, an adaptation of Mordecai Richler's novel directed by Richard J. Lewis ("CSI"). The story is a fictional memoir of a dude whose life is punctuated by failed relationships and hatred, and possibly, murder. You last saw Giamatti in Duplicity, if you saw that movie. If not, then probably when he haunts your dreams from that time you caught Lady In The Water and couldn't take it back. Well, if there's anyone who can do "man, I messed... »
