Good story sabotaged by technical limitations and lack of care.

Review refers to: Hunter - The Reckoning: Wayward (video game),

We all remember having been there; The USA during the last Zombie- Apocalypse: We have dutifully butchered through the hordes of the undead and finally hacked the villain into smithereens. But scarcely five years later, the rotten Freak just returns from the dead and causes trouble again? Watch your manners, Badass! It all began with the city of Ashcroft, to me a skillful allusion to the real city of Cologne, and it draws us back to Ashcroft.

Four Hunters had "at the time" undone the evil super-rogue, as they stopped it by bullet rain. But all of a sudden the smartphones start ringing and the secret Hunter-Network brings disturbing reports about a much greater threat; the "old evil" has returned and has learned from the mistakes.

Four hunters and Jagerinnen can initially be selected for playing. Joshua & Devin = Hunter No. 5 & 8, are only unlocked via beating each difficulty level.

One can even play through the game for unlocked Nightmare mode, then you can play carpenter, the villain from Part 1! So you can quietly start a tutorial once on the easy difficulty, because it is what unlocks more.

Our six hunters are:

Priest Cortez, the judge (Typology of Monster-Jagers ). Armed with Crusader's Sword and Crossbow is the former prison chaplain of Ashcroft, so close to the action and is looking forward to "Teamwork in the name of God".

Kassandra "Yoko Ono clone" Cheyung. The small Ravegirl that wants to blow off your head? ; -) She is armed with two pistols and two Kama (Japanese sickles, look like a knife blade on the side of a short baton). As a martyr she loses vitality and mana, if you use her super powers. Because she is fast and deadly one can do nearly all game without those.

Rockerboy Wyatt: Whether doorman of the gay bar, or as a member of the Biker-Brotherhood, Spenser "Deuce" Wyatt is the Avenger among the hunters. offensively, brutal and more lame than any zombie!!! With battle ax and bolt action rifle he fulfills his missions, if it is not just about being eaten due being slow.

Samantha Alexander. Police officer and the defender among the hunters. Because she can heal herself from the start it is a smart choice for the solo performance. Armed with katana and .357 Magnum revolver she is well equipped to cope with most of it. Downside is a bug, which weakens the firepower of the gun (should be stronger than 9mm from Ravegirl).

Joshua of the revolters. A Skinhead himself. His wrecking-crew- quarterstaff is funny and his automatic gun deals little damage, but spits accordingly many bullets in quick repetition. Once unlocked his only weakness is a lack of healing powers. If bad loot is dropped he dies a lot, causing reloads which may suck and spoil it!

Devin, the astray. We first meet him in the first intro movie shown and must dissuade him to murder civilians. But we may only play him after we have played-thru the game in normal mode. Devin has a caliber 45 pistol and a two-handed-sword of enormous reach. While he is actually fat & Lame, he still shines in melee combat against multiple opponents, because of his blade's range and heavy damage-dealing specials!

You have the options set, you have to start with an Intro section, as well as Tutorial. Passable enough. Missions are available on the computer and additional info plus mission objectives will be clearly defined. Also it is important that you can repeat missions, even with changing characters! This way you can save innocent people, which rewards bonus "continues". Means that if you die you can click Continue more often, instead of been forced to restart completely.

The missions are clichéd and horror as known. The evil one to track, find the correct weaponry and handicrafts, gain experience and then finally gut the biggest baddie.

As with all PLAYSTATION 2 games, one is often defeated by the camera. The spinning may happen at times in the midst of battle, or rotates while you like to explore the surrounding area. Since the mission does not necessarily need to be completed on first run one can live with it, but it is a MINUS for gamers indeed.

What other critics had written on similarities to Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance & Gauntlet Dark Legacy I can confirm. In the good and the annoying.

Cheats: you can earn in the game, by killing evil monsters, or the finding artifacts. They don't work for me! And yes, I have the Cheat "Cheats activated".

Technically an old and shaky one, but with a good story and some funny gameplay.
