How to Make a Lame Trailer for 'Train Your Dragon'

47 minutes ago | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

I gave How to Train Your Dragon the benefit of the doubt with its first trailer. Well, sorta. I don't think Jay Baruchel is a great choice to voice the main character and said so at the time, but I thought some of the visuals in the upcoming DreamWorks animated flick were pretty good. Good enough, anyway.

But a new trailer is out now, and it's just bad. Worse than that, DreamWorks is equally insterested in reminding you that it's the company that sold you and your kids movie tickets to see Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and Madagascar. And the music they use here makes it seem like this film has already accomplished something. Way too regal for me. It's the right style for part of this trailer, but it's still a bit much, especially when weighed with everything else going on here.

There's a little bit of new footage, »

Second trailer for How To Train Your Dragon

In November, we brought you the first trailer for DreamWorks’ latest animated feature, How To Train Your Dragon.  Where that trailer seemed to rely on the legacy of Dreamworks animation, featuring clips from Shrek and Kung Fu Panda, the latest trailer gives you a further glimpse into the film.  See the trailer after the break:

New How To Train Your Dragon Trailer

7 hours ago | Screenrush | See recent Screenrush news »

Dreamworks Animation today draws on its rather lacklustre back catalogue to convince you to part with your hard-earned cash for its latest effort, How to Train Your Dragon.

From the studio that brought you Madagascar (hmm!), Shrek (er!) and Kung Fu Panda (actually, we kinda liked that one) comes an all-new animated tale about one boy and his fire-breathing buddy.

The film may actually turn out to be quite good but the latest promo to hit the interweb fails to convince, particularly as it has to turn to Dreamworks fair but hardly legendary previous output to bolster its release.

Anyhow, take a look at the new trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments section...

New Trailer for 'How to Train Your Dragon' Unveiled

14 hours ago | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Dreamworks Animation has released a new trailer for adventure movie "How to Train Your Dragon". Opened with footage from the studio's previous animation films, such as "Shrek" and "Kung Fu Panda", the video gives a preview to Hiccup's ups and downs in training an injured dragon until the two become friends.

Based on the book by Cressida Cowell of the same title, the film is set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons. It follows Hiccup, a Viking teenager who doesn't exactly fit in with his tribe's longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers. His world is turned upside down when he encounters a dragon that challenges him and his fellow Vikings to see the world from an entirely different point of view.

Providing the voices for "How to Train Your Dragon" are Gerard Butler, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Craig Ferguson, Kristen Wiig and America Ferrera among many others. »

From the studio that brought you “Shrek,” “Madagascar” and “Kung Fu Panda” comes “How To Train Your Dragon” -- an adventure comedy set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, based on the book by Cressida Cowell. The story centers around a Viking teenager, who lives on the island of Berk, where fighting dragons is a way of life. Initiation is coming, and this is his one chance to prove his worthiness to his tribe and father. New Trailer for How To Train Your Dragon

18 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

According to this new trailer for How to Train Your Dragon, DreamWorks Animation has a proud tradition of quality filmmaking that dates all the way back to…2001.  I do find it a bit amusing since it recalls Disney trailers that do the same thing except they can reach all the way back to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.  However, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and Madagascar are their three highest-grossing franchises so it makes sense that they would sell How to Train Your Dragon as the continuation of films that appeal to families and make lots and lots of money.

Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t sell the film nearly as well as the previous one and relies far too heavily on Mr. Movie Voice.  You want to tell me the touching story between a Viking boy (voiced by Jay Baruchel) and his dragon?  Then show me.  The dragon is clearly »

Latest How to Train Your Dragon Movie Trailer Hangs on Dreamworks’ Dubious Animation Legacy

20 hours ago | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

I can understand Pixar trading on the legacy of the Toy Story films, Monsters Inc. and so on - even Cars, which I know many critics aren't so kind on  - but Dreamworks Animation trying to draw hype out of their back catalogue? Admittedly they've put the weight on the more successful Shrek and Madagascar franchises, as well as the actually-rather-good Kung Fu Panda, and not such cine-excrement as Shark Tale or Bee Movie, but isn't the consensus that the Dreamworks branding on a toon is best taken as a warning, not an encouragement? Ah well. They're proud anyway, and so they've stitched together a few legacy clips and a self-aggrandising voice over of spurious exaltation for the top of the new How to Train Your Dragon trailer, which you can see after the break. It seems to be a leak, and not an official release so catch it while »

New Trailer For ‘How to Train Your Dragon’

22 hours ago | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Following on from the first official trailer at the start of last month, a new trailer has been released from Dreamworks Animation’s latest animated family adventure, How To Train You Dragon. This one highlights the experience of the movie a lot more than the first trailer,  (i.e. the scenes of the dragon flying etc.) instead of the slapstick and cutesy one-liners we’re used to from Dreamworks’ animated fare.

How to Train Your Dragon is set in a mythical world where Vikings and dragons have been at odds with one another for thousands of years, and killing dragons is an everyday occurrence for Vikings. It centers on a young Viking boy named Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel) who one day befriends an injured dragon instead of killing it as he’s supposed to, much to the embarrassment of his father (voiced by Gerard Butler). The film comes to »

New How To Train Your Dragon Trailer Has Heritage

28 December 2009 9:58 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

DreamWorks isn.t Pixar. They.ve made Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and then a bunch of other mildly entertaining movies which are mostly useless unless you.re looking for something to shut up your kids. But all of those movies, even the bad ones like Shrek the Third, have made a mint and so DreamWorks is using its past success as a means of convincing you to see their new effort, How to Train Your Dragon. It.ll probably work, but I.d rather see more of their new fire breathing creation. Still the new How to Train You Dragon trailer does contain at least some actual Dragon footage and even an occasional viking, wedged in after clips from Madagascar and Shrek. Watch it below: »

The Notable Films of 2010: Part Five

Hippie Hippie Shake

Opens: 2010

Cast: Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller, Max Minghella, Emma Booth, Lee Ingleby

Director: Beeban Kidron

Summary: Follows the love story of Oz editor Richard Neville and Louise Ferrier. Neville and his cohorts launch the London edition of Oz amidst the 1960s counterculture and are subsequently put on trial for distributing a sexually explicit issue.

Analysis: One of the most troubled productions in Working Title's history, 'Hippie' began development back in 1998 but failed to get beyond script stage both in 1999 and in 2002 when "Elizabeth" helmer Shekhar Kapur was attached to direct. Filming finally got underway late 2007 with director Beeban Kidron in charge and shooting seemed to proceed without issue aside from feminist author Germaine Greer being vehemently unhappy about being depicted on film.

Actually the film scored quite a bit of free press for a skinny dipping scene where full-frontal shots of actress Sienna Miller shooting the sequence »

Shrek Forever After Teaser Trailer and Poster

17 December 2009 3:51 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

The fourth and final Shrek movie, Shrek Forever After, now has a teaser trailer and a poster.  I’m not sure if I’m excited about the new promotional materials or that it’s the last one being made.  It’s the latter. DreamWorks Animation may be moving on with sequels to the successful Kung Fu Panda, but not before one last withdrawal from the Shrek bank (now with 3-D premium bonuses).

The story is a fairy tale rehash of It’s a Wonderful Life where Shrek “falls victim to a terrible curse” by the evil Rumpelstiltskin and sees what Far Far Away is like without him.  Mike Myers returns to voice the lovable ogre, along with Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, and Antonio Banderas, who is getting his own spin-off when Puss in Boots comes out in 2011.

Take a look at the teaser trailer and poster below:

Barry Sonnenfeld Adapting Gil’s All Fright Diner for Dreamworks Animation

17 December 2009 12:43 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Dreamworks Animation is looking to adapt the fantasy novel Gil's All Fright Diner by A. Lee Martinez. They've tasked Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris with the writing duties --- a pair that has seen story credits for Kung Fu Panda and the upcoming Robin Hood, and they also created/exec-produced the TV series Sleeper Cell. Barry Sonnenfeld is currently attached to direct. The novel centers on a vampire and werewolf who happen to be friends, and come upon an all night diner after running low on gas. There they discover that the diner has a recurrent zombie attack problem, and are enlisted by the diner manager to help out. They soon find out that zombies aren't the only supernatural phenomenon occurring around the diner, and ultimately have to help stop a local couple from summoning the old gods --- which has the potential to end the world. Barry Sonnenfeld to Direct Gil's All Fright Diner for DreamWorks

16 December 2009 10:48 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Nothing like taking the kitchen sink approach to a project, which is what it sounds like A. Lee Martinez did when writing the novel Gil's All Fright Diner about a vampire and werewolf who team up to fight zombies after stopping at a diner in the desert that is a conduit for the supernatural.

Now, thanks to the success of The Twilight Saga, of course any project that even hints at a vamp/lycan collaboration is a hot ticket, so DreamWorks Animation has snapped up Kung Fu Panda scribes Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris to write an adaptation of Gil's All Fright Diner.

Barry Sonnenfeld (The Addams Family/Addams Family Values) is attached to direct.

According to Variety there's an odd couple aspect of the story [about] this vampire and werewolf who team to save the world from an ancient demon and his modern ally, a high school cheerleader who wants to be famous. »
