John Singleton is poised to be the next filmmaker to make the leap to television, as FX has picked up the pilot for Snowfall, a show co-created by Singleton. The press release had this summary of the series.
Los Angeles 1981. A storm is coming and its name is cocaine. Snowfall is a one-hour drama set against the infancy of the crack cocaine epidemic and its ultimate radical impact on the culture as we know it. The story follows three characters on a violent collision course: Franklin Saint, young street entrepreneur on a quest for power; Gustavo Zapata, a Mexican wrestler turned gangster in search of his American dream; and Logan Miller, a prominent family’s “black sheep” desperate to escape his father’s shadow.
Singleton will also direct the pilot.

Reid Flair has tragically died aged just 25. He was the son of Ric Flair and his second wife Elizabeth. The cause of Reid’s death is currently unknown, though police have reported that he was found dead in a Charlotte hotel room.
Ric’s agent released a statement on behalf of the family:
“We are heartbroken to confirm that Ric’s son, Reid Fliehr, has passed away today March 29.
“Reid was 25 and an incredible son, brother, friend, and professional wrestler. No words can describe the grief that Ric and his family are experiencing and they do request privacy during this devastating time.”
During high school, Reid was an accomplished amateur wrestler who won numerous awards. Reid followed his father into wrestling in 1998 when he appeared for World Championship Wrestling. He defeated Eric Bischoff in his first match for the company and in 2000 teamed with his father in a match against...

Last week, I announced that this was definitely a go, with a summer shoot date scheduled. Read that post Here if you missed it. In it, producer Will Packer said that the details of the production, including its cast, will be announced tomorrow, during Steve Harvey’s radio show, so we’ll be listening for that.
In the meantime, I just received the below press release, announcing a competition search for 3 walk-on parts in the film that you, yes, You, can might qualify for.
The gist of it: They’re searching for 1 man and 1 woman, between 18 and 50 years old; to apply, you’re asked to videotape yourself essentially auditioning, using a script side that they provide. You’ll also have to upload a headshot, and a description of past credits, if you have any.
The site where you go to apply is www.FaceOfTheFan.com.
The deadline is May 13th.

Slow week produces no new names in top 50.
By Gil Kaufman
Taylor Swift
Photo: Steve Granitz/ WireImage
After gorging themselves on new releases over the holidays, music consumers seemed like they were in the mood to nest and cuddle up with the usual suspects during the final chart week of 2010.
According to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, Taylor Swift will once again hang on to the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart next week thanks to sales of 77,000 for Speak Now, which saw a 72 percent drop in business from the week before, even as the 21-year-old newly single singer zeroed in on 3 million in sales in just over two months in stores.
With every album in the top 30 suffering from significant double-digit losses, the traditionally slow final week of the year was especially lethargic. Rounding out the top 10 are Eminem, Recovery (#2, 63,000, down 54 percent); Rihanna, Loud (#3, 62,000, down 44 percent); Nicki Minaj, Pink Friday (#4, 61,000, down 54 percent); Kanye West,...

Steve Harvey is making his first foray into the game show world -- but the new host of "Family Feud" says his training as a stand-up comic fits snugly into the show's revamped format. "You gotta understand what this show is about, and coming from the world of standup comedy, the show wasn't originally about me, but this [version of the] show is catered to me," says Harvey, 53, who's on the phone from Atlanta, where he hosts his daily syndicated radio show. "I'm very quick on my feet, always have been . . . and...

Hollywoodnews.com: Is “Glee” a little too grown up for your youngest kids? Is Big Time Rush on Nickelodeon a bit too goofy for your taste? If you are looking for a new mix of adolescence and music for your family, then you might want to check out Stewart Raffill’s “Standing Ovation” when it opens in theaters this Friday, July 16.
The family musical, distributed by Rocky Mountain Pictures, follows five junior high school friends who form a singing group called The 5 Ovations to compete in a national music video contest. It’s their goal to win a cash prize of one million dollars. Standing in their way, however, is rival singing group The Wiggies — five rich, talented and unscrupulous sisters who along with their parents, will stop at nothing to win the competition.
But parents can take their little ones to “Standing Ovation” without fear...

Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider are starring in Dennis Dugan's new comedy "Grown Ups," and the first trailer for the film sucks big time. And I mean Big Time!
The story follows four old friends who haven't seen each other for decades and one day decide to reunite for a Fourth of July weekend. What a bad idea, because we get to watch them catch up and all.
As you can see in the trailer below, this one looks just like yet another ultra-lame slapstick comedy in which some good actors prove they have what it takes to pick a project everyone knows is going to stink.

The WB Network is going for a full season of Steve Harvey's Big Time. The network has picked up six additional episodes of the talk/variety show, bringing the total of segments from the series' freshman season to 22. "I think we have a show that is a different genre that hasn't been on TV in a while," WB co-CEO Jordan Levin said. "Steve's show has been growing, and to have a freshman show coming in third in the (Thursday 8-8:30 p.m.) time slot in adults 18-34, that is a very positive sign." Last month, the WB gave an abbreviated back order to Telepictures Prods.' Big Time of three extra episodes instead of the standard nine. The network also decided to try slightly tweaking the format for the series, which features regular people with unusual or offbeat talents. Big Time originally filmed the segments showcasing each performer as interchangeable and flexible to be mixed and matched with other pieces in the editing room. Last week, the show for the first time taped a self-contained episode. "We wanted to see the first tape night of the newer format," Levin said. "Everybody felt really good about it. We all looked at one another after (the taping) and said, 'This show's working.' "...

The WB Network has picked up all four of its new comedies, giving Like Family and Run of the House a full back-nine episode order and ordering three episodes each of All About the Andersons and Steve Harvey's Big Time. The network, which is still trying to make inroads in comedy after scoring its first comedy hit Reba, is known for sticking with its new half-hours for a full season and to accommodate that often gives some of them a partial back order. "Amidst an unstable broadcast landscape, we are confident that continuing our commitment to all of our first-year comedies will pay dividends in the future," the WB co-CEO Jordan Levin said. The pickups for the four sitcoms comes after a good week for most of the WB's comedies last week.

The WB Network scored some demo gains with the debut of its new Thursday lineup, while UPN got a decent sampling for its new comedy The Mullets. Meanwhile, the premiere episode of NBC's new comedy Whoopi delivered a second impressive showing. The encore presentation of the Tuesday sitcom's pilot episode drew 9.6 million viewers and a 4.7 rating/13 share among adults 18-49 at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, holding onto 92% of its Will & Grace 18-49 lead-in, the best retention in the time period with a show other than Will & Grace since March. The one-hour premiere of the WB's Steve Harvey's Big Time (3.6 million, 1.4/5) at 8 p.m. came short of the big premiere of Family Affair (4.6 million, 1.6/5) in the same slot last year but was up in such key WB demos as persons 12-34 (1.6/6, up 7%), adults 18-34 (1.5/5, up 15%) and female teens (2.4/12, up 14%), according to Nielsen Media Research data.
