Sean Stone is keeping it in the family for his next project as writer/director: an adaptation of his father Oliver’s novel “A Child’s Night Dream.” The younger Stone has already written a screenplay based on the book, which the Academy Award–winning filmmaker wrote when he was 19 and serving in the military. Deadline first broke the news.
Set in Vietnam and based on the “Platoon” and “Born on the 4th of July” director’s own experiences, “A Child’s Night Dream” was first published in 1997. The story will be moved to the aftermath of 9/11 for the film adaptation. Now 31, Sean says he’s been working on the adaptation since he was 15. “My own high school and early college years informed the script, and helped it evolve...

Whilst romantic comedies are everywhere, sometimes all you really want to see is a movie about cold, hard cash. Thankfully, quite a few of them have been made. Films about the pursuit of wealth have cropped up steadily over the years, beginning as early as 1924. Our aim is to point you in the direction of the best of the bunch.
If we’re completely honest, the pursuit of wealth is something that most of us are familiar with. It’s why casinos and betting have always been so popular, aside from the obvious thrill, that is. A desire to boost funds is why so many people head to Vegas or paypal-casinos.co. The drive for wealth makes for some fantastic stories that try to create a conversation about man’s relationship with money. Many of them focus on the high-stakes life of a Wall Street trader. Those listed below are the most successful,...

Nsa whistleblower participated in a Q&A via a webcam at his home in Russia and revealed he finds a film about him to be an uncomfortable experience
The director Oliver Stone got a rare chance to talk to whistleblower Edward Snowden in front of an audience at a Q&A session on Thursday evening, and in so doing, compared Snowden’s anxiety over his own appearance in the film to another amateur actor who was cut from one of his films six years before.
“I directed Donald Trump,” Stone said to an invitation-only audience at San Diego Comic-Con. “It was an outtake in [Wall Street:] Money Never Sleeps.”

Michael Douglas is back on the big screen this week in Ant-Man, the latest high-octane blockbuster to whizz off the Marvel factory line.
Douglas is strictly in mentor mode here as Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man who brings Paul Rudd's Scott Lang into the fold to execute a daring heist. This McU outing will introduce Douglas to a host of new cinemagoers who'll no doubt be curious about his big screen work - but where do you start with a back catalogue as formidable as Douglas's?
The rule for a Michael Douglas movie marathon: it must consist of five films and five only (we've had to leave off some classics!). Our choices are below, so read on to find out the films we think are essential viewing.
Romancing the Stone (1984)
It's hardly surprising that the success of Raiders of the Lost Ark spawned a series of quick Indiana Jones knock-offs.

Michael Douglas. Anthony Hopkins. Just two actors who've returned to play the parts that won them Oscars...
When Oscar glory comes knocking for a successful Hollywood actor, it must be hugely tempting when the chance arrives for them to reprise that award-winning role. But while sequels and reboots are a common enough sight in the movie industry these days, examples of stars who've returned to their Oscar-winning roles are relatively few and far between.
The reason, perhaps, is because it's so difficult to recapture the creative lightning in a bottle that led to the Oscar win in the first place. Nevertheless, some actors do occasionally take up the offer and return to the filmmaking well. And as the list below proves, the results can sometimes be highly accomplished - though seldom quite as powerful and fresh as the films they're following...

Has director Sean Stone had experiences with ghosts before? “Not before Greystone,” he said. Stone, son of popular director Oliver Stone, said the idea for the film “Greystone Park” came to him after meeting Alexander Wraith, who was working on Oliver’s film, “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.” “Well, very much like you see inside the film,” said Stone about the meeting and idea for the film. “It was a dinner table discussion. Wraith’s experience with Greystone Park, an abandoned psychiatric hospital came up during the conversation, as well as his thought that it could be a good subject for a film. “I said, okay, it sounds like a cool [ Read More ]

Savages represent Oliver Stone’s return to form, a throwback to the violent and profane work that made Stone such an exciting director after his one-two punch of Salvador and Platoon way back in 1986 put him on the map (his last two films were W. and Wall Street Money Never Sleeps in case you were wondering). Savages is a showcase for the filmmaker’s terrific arsenal of visual mannerisms and imagery, and if in the end it doesn’t add up to much, it’s a hell of a R-Rated ride getting there. Savages follows a pair of young and smart marijuana entrepreneurs Ben (Aaron Johnson), a charitable botanist, and Chon (Taylor Kitsch), a former Navy Seal, who set up a successful racket in arid Laguna Beach. They share not only a business, but a woman as well; Ophelia (known as “O” and played by Blake Lively), a California beauty who describes both men,...

It’s always unfortunate to watch a filmmaker slip further away from his better work with age – but even more so when it’s one who exhibited the sort of storytelling craft that could both frustrate and engage his audience all at once. Director Oliver Stone has always been one to challenge his viewers. From his days of illustrating with his pen the brutal confines of a Turkish prison in “Midnight Express” to the conspiracy minded reels of “JFK,” Stone has honed an ability to tell seemingly documentary ready material in a more compelling cinematic narrative – treating fiction like reality (and occasionally blurring the line between the two). That all began to slip even in the eyes of some of Stone’s most adamant defenders in the early 2000s, where after the semi-respectable “Any Given Sunday,” Stone sat in the director’s chair for “World Trade Center,” and “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps,...

For most of the big Oliver Stone fans out there, you will have noticed that in recent years his intensity has been toned down. Earlier on in his career Stone made films like JFK, Platoon and Natural Born Killers, which were works that were divisive and angry, they had all the subtlety of a sledgehammer and all the better for that. Stone movies used to knock the wind out of you.
As he moved into older agem he turned to more tepid fare such as Wall Street Money Never Sleeps and W., which lacked Stone’s usual soapbox punch. Even though his new film Savages doesn’t look like it’ll get back to that, he at least seems to be taking a turn to the dark side again.

That collective groan at this article’s headline was actually a piece of your soul sloughing away. In a world where even Oliver Stone jumps on the sequel-train (the underwhelming Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps), we thought we’d be spared a sequel to a Martin Scorsese film, especially to his masterpiece, Raging Bull. Tough luck, because MovieHole reports that this violation is now casting and will begin shooting this June.
If there’s good news here, it’s the evidence that neither Scorsese or Robert De Niro – who won an Oscar for his portrayal of boxer Jake Lamotta – are involved in this. Turns out DeNiro’s Once Upon A Time In America co-star William Forsythe will be taking on the role of the elder Lamotta in what is being described as both a prequel and a sequel to the original film.

September and October are weird months most of the time, at least movie wise. There's not a lot of options during this time, as all the good movies are waiting until nearer the holidays to release. So, typically, you spend this time either catching up on film s]you may have missed during the summer, or, if you're lucky enough, catching all the limited releases before they hit the mainstream closer to Oscar time. But, surprisingly enough, 2012 is different. There's actually some great options in here, including some "Best of the Year" potentials. To read about those films (and a whole lot more), hit the jump right now!
So apparently, the beginning of September is too good for movies. September 7, the first Friday of the month, has zero releases set for theaters. Well I wouldn't be surprised if this spot is eventually filled sometime in 2012, for now, we'll just have to skip this weekend.

Shia Labeouf hit up a coffee shop on Grantville Street in Vancouver yesterday. Shia's north of the border on location for his Robert Redford directed drama, The Company You Keep. This is his first film with Redford, though Shia's shared the big screen with other Hollywood legends like Michael Douglas and Harrison Ford in the past. Shia recently wrapped The Wettest County in the World and spent the rest of his Summer hanging around La with girlfriend Karolyn Pho. Last Fall Shia was involved in a whirlwind romance with his Money Never Sleeps costar Carey Mulligan and since then the pair have gone separate ways professionally and romantically. Carey was recently spotted wearing an engagement ring, though no official confirmation from the actress or her rumored fiancé musician Marcus Mumford on the news. View Slideshow ›...

Harrison Ford admits to have berated his "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" co-star, Shia Labeouf. In the latest issue of Details Magazine, the 68-year-old actor revealed he called Shia an "idiot" after the younger actor publicly spoke out against the fourth installment of "Indy" movie.
Rebutting Shia's claim that he privately applauded the "Transformers" star's outspokenness, Harrison said, "I think I told him he was a f**king idiot. As an actor, I think it's my obligation to support the film without making a complete ass of myself." Still, he added, "Shia is ambitious, attentive, and talented - and he's learning how to deal with a situation which is very unique and difficult."
Back in 2010, Shia told press members at Cannes Film Festival he blames himself for "Indy 4" failings. "I feel like I dropped the ball on the legacy that people loved and cherished," he said before adding,...

Michael Douglas' ex-wife yesterday lost -- yet again -- a bid to get a load of loot from her ex's performance in "Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps."
The Manhattan judge who last year rejected Diandra Douglas' effort to sue Oscar-winner Michael in New York for half of the millions he earned from the follow-up to the 1987 hit "Wall Street" rejected her request to overturn the original ruling.
Justice Matthew Cooper again said that Diandra's claims that their divorce settlement entitles her to such cash should be heard in a court in California, where they split in 2000.

Ever since he left a big impression in The Hurt Locker back in 2009, Anthony Mackie has had a big boost in his career. He recently appeared in The Adjustment Bureau, while he has both Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Real Steel coming out within the next year or so. Variety tells us that he’s just signed on for an upcoming film that we’re all pretty excited for.
That’s Gangster Squad, the Warner Bros.-distributed, Ruben Fleischer-directed period piece that has Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and Michael Peña in its cast. Written by Will Beall, the movie follows Gosling and Brolin as police officers who are hunting down famed Los Angeles mobster Mickey Cohen, who will be played here by Penn. In a unique bit of stunt casting, Be Cool stars John Travolta and Uma Thurman recently signed to star in Oliver Stone’s latest film, Savages.
Deadline reported on Thursday “Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively scooped the highly coveted female lead, O. Lively replaces everybody’s new favorite, Jennifer Lawrence who dropped out in order to star in Hunger Games.
Savages is an adaptation of the Don Winslow novel and according to Amazon, it sounds like quite a corker:

Their business is buzzing along nicely until members of the Mexican Baja Cartel decide they want a piece of the action. Ben, a charitable, environmentally conscious Berkeley grad, doesn’t want any trouble. Former Navy Seal Chon prefers peace as well but not if it means giving up primo weed. Michael Douglas' lawyers blasted the "audacity" of the star's ex-wife in a New York court on Tuesday, April 12, as Diandra Douglas continued her quest to land 50 percent of the actor's salary from the "Wall Street" sequel.
Diandra, who divorced Douglas in 2000, is seeking a share of the actor's pay check from his 2010 movie "Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps". She claims their divorce deal entitled her to half her ex-husband's profits from projects he worked on during their marriage, and any possible "spin-offs" of his previous films, including the original 1987 "Wall Street".
The case was dismissed at Manhattan's Supreme Court in November 2010 after a judge ruled the Big Apple was not the right jurisdiction to hear the case, as the former couple divorced in California. Diandra, who is selling her sprawling California home, vowed to appeal, and she appeared in court on Tuesday to continue fighting her case.

Michael Douglas' ex-wife Diandra has blamed her battle for more of his millions on disgraced financiers Bernie Madoff and Kenneth Starr, but she's vowed to continue her court fight. In November 2010, a judge in New York ruled Diandra's claims for a share of the profits from 2010's "Wall Street sequel should be heard in California, and dismissed the case.

She tells Harper's Bazaar, "Because of the type of human being I aspire to be, if Starr & Company hadn't happened and Madoff hadn't, and if a lot of other things hadn't happened, to tell you the honest truth, I really believe I would have walked away."

Here we go with the first Film Diary post in its new weekly slot. It’s been pretty quiet so far, but from here on in it’s going to get a lot more bumpy. Remember, if you’re willing to offer me suggestions for what to watch, I’m more than willing to take them on board- if I don’t own them, I’ll even go and source them so I can share the love.
For anyone who missed it, here’s the skinny. Basically, what I’m presenting here is my attempt to chart a whole year’s worth of film-watching – something I have wanted to do for some time now. The aim is to post frequently, chronicling every film I watch this year – both offering reviews and setting myself the ultimate goal of watching (and writing about) as many films as humanly possible, without abandoning the necessary functions of normal existence…...

Upon seeing the first critics screening of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps one sunny morning in Cannes, I rather hastily wrote less than 30 mins after the credits rolled;
My honest to God, 20 minute post-Cannes premiere kneejerk and potentially over-the-top reaction to Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps is that if it lucks the right momentum wave and if the older critics who cackled and rejoiced at Gordon Gekko’s big screen comeback do the right thing… then we may be talking a Best Picture contender.
I’m putting my balls on the line and so what?
In the end, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps didn’t luck that momentum wave I was talking about but I still say it’s a fine drama, a very good follow-up to a genuine 80′s classic and I really hope those of you who stayed away from seeing it in the theatres will be...

Similarly unsurprising: Colin Firth won Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama, Natalie Portman cinched Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama for "Black Swan," Matt Damon presented Robert De Niro with the Cecil B. A lot of people consider the Golden Globes to be a forerunner for Oscar season, and a few consider it completely inconsequential, but love it or hate it the Golden Globe Awards never fails to bring out the biggest and brightest from the entertainment world. Equaling practically any other awards presentation in the level of pageantry, the Golden Globes is certainly can't miss for anyone who loves to get caught up in the glitz and glimmer of Hollywood - and tonight's presentation definitely delivered.
After The People's Choice awards delivered a winners list that was curious, to put it mildly, a lot of eyes were on the Golden Globe results to restore some sanity to the gold derby. Chicago – Remember when every Oliver Stone movie caused waves? There was a time when he was a love-him-or-hate-him director who provoked conversation with every outing. Perhaps the most interesting thing about his recent work like “World Trade Center” and “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,” recently released on Blu-ray and DVD, is how little impact it has had. He seems to be making movies most people like but no one loves or hates. The sequel to one of his best films is a good drama but doesn’t really resonate like the man used to do every time out.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0
To be fair, “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” made over $130 million worldwide and earned star Michael Douglas a Golden Globe nomination, which he could end up winning if the sentimental vote goes strongly enough, so it was far from a bomb. And most critics recognized that there were things to...

Although optimism is thrown out the window when compiling a list of some of the major disappointments of 2010, it at least serves to highlight Hollywood’s need to meet ever increasing demands of an audience that yearns for more than homage heavy indulgence fests. Inception and The Social Network demonstrated that smartly made imaginative films, by ambitious talents at the top of their game, could tap into a modern consensus and become hits at the box office.
While Kick-Ass, delivered a clever post-modern twist to the superhero genre and Let Me In demonstrated that horror remakes could actually be relevant again rather than depredatory. But I would also like to add Splice which, though bizarre and unconventional, indicated that there is still an opportunity for filmmakers to evoke emotional kudos into the modern science-fiction horror film.
No the general disappointments of cinema in 2010 came with the slew of derogative ‘eighties are back!

So here’s Simon’s roll of 2010 top ten dice. Does the guy need an introduction by now? (Hint: His posts include an avatar of him dressed up like Hellboy!). He’s been with us for the past two years and I’ve known him for a little longer, still the only Owf Writer who was a personal friend before he wrote his first review for us. And he’s wrote many a great once since, including some of the best feature articles we’ve ever published (More Grit Please We’re British, Inception 101) and although I don’t have the stats to prove it, I’m pretty sure his passion for cinema has resulted in by far the biggest words per article ratio of anyone around here!
Enjoy this top ten from a mainstay of Owf… and oh, it seems like him choosing The Shop Around The Corner...

Oliver Stone is planning to recruit Shia Labeouf for his other project. After working together in "Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps", the helmer reveals in commentary track for the movie that he and the actor have discussed about the possibility of reteaming for "Pinkville".
According to IGN, Stone says Labeouf is interested in exploring the subject matter because his father was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. The site also reports that Labeouf would portray Hugh Thompson, a Us Army helicopter pilot. The role was previously set for Channing Tatum.
Set in March 1968 when the My Lai massacre took place, the Vietnam War investigative drama will revolve around Thompson who saw Us soldiers killing unarmed civilians in the hamlet of My Lai. He then reported this massacre and stopped it.
"Pinkville" was originally set to start filming in Southeast Asia in December 2007 but was shelved due to the then-impending Writers Guild strike.

Shia Labeouf has moved on from his failed romance with Carey Mulligan. The 24-year-old "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" star was spotted having a romantic brunch date with his new girlfriend at Little Dom's on Monday, December 27 in Los Feliz, California.
During their meal, the couple reportedly held hands and smoked cigarettes together. After having their brunch, they walked together to Shia's pick-up truck. The "Transformers" star, who hid his face under a black hat, was said being romantic by opening the door for the brunette, wearing a black dress, before he went in.
Earlier this month, the twosome was spotted grabbing some pancakes at Jinky's Cafe in Sherman Oaks. The mystery girl, who also donned a black ensemble at that time and paired it with sunglasses, was identified as an Asian girl.

Back in 1987, writer/director Oliver Stone, fresh off the warm critical reception and multiple Oscar wins for Platoon, released Wall Street, a wildly successful drama centered around a good ol’ boy (Charlie Sheen) and the corrupt business mogul, Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas), who tries to corrupt him. Over two decades later, Stone has returned to Gekko and the world of Wall Street with a sequel, Money Never Sleeps, meant to address our current financial crisis. We’ll be talking about both movies, as well as revisiting Stone’s surprisingly uncontroversial take on 9/11, the survival drama World Trade Center.

Merry Christmas everybody! And yes, I do mean everybody, whether you celebrate the holiday or not. It’s the gesture and thought that are important here people, not the details of your own beliefs or attitudes. No different from saying ‘Good morning’ or Have a great day!’ And to prove I’m not all about the specifics of Christmas… I’m not recommending any new releases for purchase this week! See? No crass commercialism intended! Of course, it helps that most of this week’s titles are average at best… This week sees Oliver Stone’s Wall Street sequel (Money Never Sleeps), the first in M. Night Shyamalan’s Night Chronicles series of low budget horror films (Devil), Angelina Jolie’s latest action romp (Salt), Emma Stone’s smart high-school comedy (Easy A), and a handful of below the radar foreign titles including Map Of the Sounds Of Tokyo, Beautiful Kate, and...

Salt (Unrated) There's an unrated cut and a director's cut on top of the theatrical cut. I guess they are trying really hard to get you to buy this in order to make turning it into a franchise feasible. Personally I'd love to see where they take this character, but I won't be rushing out to buy this one in order to see it happen. Easy A I'm kicking myself for not requesting a review copy of this one. I was in Toronto when it screened and never made it to the theaters to see it for myself. I have already added it to my Netflix queue, but I also just shot off a late request for a review copy so hopefully it will come through. I have heard plenty of good word of mouth for Easy A and...

The holiday season is rife with DVD and Blu-ray releases, chock full of special features, fancy packaging (a la "Sex and the City: The Complete Collection") and cutesy promo campaigns, like the one for Universal's "Despicable Me," -- which helped the movie gross $25 million in its first day of DVD release.
One of today's big releases is "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps," and to celebrate, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is offering free taxi rides in few of New York City's busiest areas (Wall Street, Times Square, Fifth Avenue, etc.) from Dec. 20-24. Look for one of 10 Wall Street-themed cars for your freebie! (Also, good luck wrestling others for a ride.) Greed, in all of its forms, has marked the upward surge of mankind.
Two movies came around in 1987 to skewer the era’s avarice from two drastically different angles: the unfailingly quotable, rollicking good-time satire of Robocop and the unfortunately quotable, cheerless cautionary finger-wagging of Wall Street. In the first, greed is punished by a sad cyborg blowing the greedy, suited villain out a window while in the second, a surreptitious recording peters to an ambiguous ending where the bad guy is a non-participant.
In my never-ending quest to watch everything I’m “supposed” to see, I sometimes need a little push; or more accurately, an excuse. Since I’d never seen Wall Street, I jumped at the chance to screen its seemingly unnecessary sequel, the oft-delayed Money Never Sleeps, which I now know is cleverly named after a throwaway line from the original.
Aside from a backstory I figured was necessary to appreciate Money,...

Welcome to the Gay Globes – er, sorry Golden Globes. With all the gay-themed and gay-favorite nominees this year, you can see how a gal might get confusion. The nominations were announced this morning and the list includes best picture nods for Black Swan and The Kids Are All Right, in drama and comedy respectively.
Both films received four nominations each including a pair of nods for their actresses, with Annette Bening and Julianne Moore for best actress in a comedy and Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis for best actress and supporting actress in a drama. So, to summarize, make out with a lady on screen this year and have a good chance of touching a Globe – er, sorry Golden Globe. If you were doing it right on screen I’m sure hoping you rounded second already.
The Golden Globe nominations, with their recognition of both movies and TV, are always a mixed bag.

Every year (for 68 years now), the Hollywood Foreign Press Association unveils their nominations for the Golden Globes, and every year we grumble at their irrelevancy. But this year the nominations are especially egregious, particularly the confused “Best Comedy or Musical” category, in a season so loaded with impressive cinema the Academy will have a difficult time narrowing the field to ten next month.
That case is only strengthened when a brilliant film like The Kids Are All Right is sandwiched in between the likes of mediocre movies Alice in Wonderland and The Tourist, even though it’s neither a comedy nor a musical. Also, Burlesque somehow managed to pick up a nod (along with two song mentions). Where were Easy A or Love and Other Drugs in the category, especially after its key players grabbed acting nominations?
Maybe the HFPA loves Johnny Depp? And that’s okay, who doesn’t?...

The major thing we can take from the newly-announced list of nominations for the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards is that David O’Russell’s The Fighter can’t be counted out so quickly as a contender and the Oscars battle might go all the way to the final round. Hell, a film might need to win on points and maybe I was to quick to award the knockout victory to The Social Network yesterday.
The Fighter features heavily in all rounds but it’s definitely clear at this point that The Social Network (6), The King’s Speech (7) and The Fighter (6) are the big heavyweights of 2010.
Also nominated for Best Picture: Drama were Black Swan and Inception, with no spots open for True Grit and 127 Hours, which could be telling for the Best Director Oscar race. Certainly it’s a huge boost for Nolan’s film to be amongst this pack.

The 2010 Golden Globe Nominations were a lot of the usual in most of the categories, with a few truly fucking boneheaded nominations. I'll grant that the Comedy film categories are often kind of weak, but Burlesque and The Tourist? What about Easy A? Hell, Date Night was better. Due Date was better. Cyrus? Really, there were two dozen movies better. Cop Out was better than Burlesque, for God's sake. The Tourist and Burlesque were two of the worst films I've seen this year. The Kids Are All Right shouldn't have to share the same category with those two. And while it's fantastic to see that Katey Sagal was finally recognized for her work on "Sons of Anarchy," that feels a little tainted where the talent pool is apparently so thin that they also had to nominate Piper Perabo for "Covert Affairs." Yes, Ms. Coyote Ugly got a goddamn Golden Globe nomination.

Awards season is officially in full swing, as Blair Underwood, Josh Duhamel and Katie Holmes got out of bed super early this morning to announce the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's nominations for the 68th annual Golden Globes.
Keeping in line with the awards and nominations already doled out this year, Tom Hooper's historical drama "The King's Speech" led the field with seven nominations, while David Fincher's searing look at the founding of Facebook, "The Social Network," and David O. Russell and Mark Wahlberg's real-life boxing tale "The Fighter" followed close behind with six apiece. Darren Aronofsky's dark ballet thriller "Black Swan" scored four nods. In other, also unsurprising news, HFPA favorite Johnny Depp will compete against himself in the Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy category, scoring nods for his turn as the Mad Hatter in "Alice in Wonderland" and for playing...

The nominations for the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced this morning, with announcements by Blair Underwood, Josh Duhamel, and Katie Holmes. The Social Network, The King's Speech and The Fighter scored a handful of nods each. But where's True Grit, which came up with nothing? If nothing else, walk away from this nomination list with the knowledge that The Fighter is a far stronger awards contender than anyone credited it with being just a couple weeks ago. The full list is after the break. Despite a general sense that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is a mostly useless, self-serving organization, the HFPA's Golden Globes awards remain an important event. They're considered a semi-useful bellwether for the Oscar nominations and, in fact, last year's Golden Globes predicted 18 out of 20 acting Oscar nominees. That's in part due to the fact that the Globes nominate more actors, as dramatic and comedy/musical categories are honored.

Brian Eno has taken aim at the producers of "Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps", accusing them of "cretinous" editing of his music in the movie. The revered former Roxy Music star is frustrated that modern technology makes it too easy for record producers to cut sections of songs and transform the arrangement.
And he is adamant the practice is equally damaging to films - singling out Oliver Stone's "Wall Street" sequel for criticism after his own songs were "chopped about" on the soundtrack. He tells Britain's Seven magazine, "I went to a movie the other evening and it made me think a lot about the danger of editing."
"Editing is now the easiest thing on earth to do... There used to be a sort of barrier... whereas now editing is like a disease, it drives me completely mad. I don't know whether I should really say which film it was.

Police say no threats against 64-year-old, who was gunned down in Beverly Hills, had been reported
Mystery today surrounded the murder of a prominent Hollywood publicist who was gunned down in her car after attending a film premiere.
