Lucas Won't Make LaBeouf Main Indiana Jones Star

8 August 2008 9:01 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Director George Lucas has ruled out making a new Indiana Jones movie around Shia LaBeouf's character in the third sequel, because the action franchise would be nothing without main star Harrison Ford.

The moviemaker had previously hinted that a fifth adventure could focus more on Indiana Jones' son, Mutt Williams - the role played by LaBeouf in this year's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Speaking during promotion for the 2008 action adventure, he said: "I have an idea to make Shia the lead character next time and have Harrison come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie."

But Lucas has now backtracked over his comments, insisting Ford "is Indiana Jones".

He says, "If it was Mutt Williams, it would be Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis or something."

But Lucas insists there are no definite plans for a fifth movie just yet.

He adds, "The franchise really depends on me coming up with a good idea.

"And that series is very research intensive. So we're doing research now to see if we can't come up with another object for him to chase... hopefully we'll come up with something."

Harrison Ford Is Indiana Jones, Not Shia, Says Lucas

7 August 2008 10:38 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Shia LaBeouf will not become the next Indiana Jones, George Lucas has told MTV News. Although Lucas has previously hinted that LaBeouf would take over the franchise, he reversed himself Wednesday, saying, "Indiana Jones is Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones. If it was Mutt Williams [the character LaBeouf plays in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull] it would be Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis or something." Lucas did say that he's planning another Indiana Jones sequel and that Ford will star in it. What he's looking for now, he indicated is what Alfred Hitchcock used to refer to as a "McGuffin," an artifact to propel the story. "They are very hard to find," he said. "It's like archeology. It takes a huge amount of research to come up with something that will fit."

Lucas: 'Indy 5 won't focus on Labeouf'

7 August 2008 6:34 AM, PDT | From Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news

George Lucas has changed his plans for a proposed fifth Indiana Jones movie. The producer had previously spoken of his desire to shift the emphasis away from Harrison Ford's whip-cracking archaeologist and onto his son Mutt Williams, played by Shia Labeouf in Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. However, Lucas has now distanced himself from the idea, telling MTV: "Indiana Jones is Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones. (more)

Shia hunts Elvis?

5 August 2008 5:06 PM, PDT | From JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news

For those of you disappointed by Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, how does Mutt Williams And The Search For Elvis sound? Kinda puts Crystal Skull in perspective, eh? While we'll never see Search For Elvis, it was a title that George Lucas dropped in a recent interview with MTV. Lucas was asked whether a fifth Indiana Jones movie would revolve around Shia Labeouf's Mutt Williams. Lucas told them no adding, "If it was Mutt Williams it would be .Mutt Williams and the...

On DVD Today: August 5, 2008

5 August 2008 3:39 AM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

DVD Links: Release Dates | New Dvds | Reviews | RSS Feed Star Trek - The Complete Second Season (Remastered) It's a light week for DVD releases and that is a good thing since you all need to shell out some extra dollars for the second season of the original series of "Star Trek" as Paramount releases the remastered episodes in all their glory. I am a bit upset that I currently have the HD DVD/DVD edition of the first season and now I have to add the DVD only second season to my collection without any high definition just as I will in the recently announced third season of the remastered set when it hits in November. However, Paramount hasn't sent me the second season for review yet (and who knows if they will) so I can't comment on the set itself, but I do know if they don't send it

Is Roger Ebert Still Credible?

4 August 2008 4:19 AM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

RopeofSilicon was running ads for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor for about the last month or so, but it wasn't until recently that critic quotes started showing up in the ads following the release of all the reviews. Considering the film was firmly placed on Rotten Tomatoes with a 10% rating at the time (down to 9% now) I was wondering just who the hell was supplying the quotes. I thought this film was awful and assumed it would be a bunch of critics I had never heard of, maybe that Lyons dude that writes for E! or Peter Travers at "Rolling Stone," since they love to shill themselves out. I wasn't ready for what I found though... Roger Ebert gave The Mummy 3/4 stars! What, what!?!? This is crazy, how can it be? Ebert can't like a stupid movie. Can he? Here's the thing. Ebert can like a stupid movie.

Connecting to Movies... A 'Character' Study

4 August 2008 4:18 AM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

What a pretty ass explosion...

Photo: Warner Bros.Pictures When I started writing about movies way back in 2003 I didn't know shit. I looked at films on a surface level only. I had always loved movies, but I loved them for how big the explosions were and how cool the effects were... that is... for the most part. Sure, I looked a little deeper into The Matrix (thought it was cool), thought the fake eyelash was cool after A Clockwork Orange and I am not at all ashamed to admit I love Titanic as a love story, but when it comes down to it I went to the theater for the more special effects driven "cool" flicks. To me, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was a reason to buy a ticket. Marie Antoinette was not. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a reason to buy a ticket.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Pushed Back to 2010?!

31 July 2008 4:51 PM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

Disney has decided to move the release of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time from June 19th, 2009 next summer to one year later on May 28th, 2010. The original release date next summer was the same day as Sony's biblical comedy Year One and one week before Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. Shifting the release to May 28th now sets the film up for release on Memorial Day weekend, which Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull used to its advantage this year. However, it will now contend with Shrek Goes Fourth, that opens one week earlier, and Marvel's Thor, which opens one week later. No details have been released yet on why the film was pushed back. Is this a smart move? Prince of Persia is being produced by powerhouse producer Jerry Bruckheimer, directed by Donnie Brasco, Mona Lisa Smile and Harry Potter and the

Indy, Iron Man Can't Boost Viacom

30 July 2008 10:26 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

The success of Paramount's Iron Man and the latest Indiana Jones sequel helped offset weak performances by other units of Viacom, producing higher-than expected second quarter profits, the company said Tuesday. Nevertheless they were lower than those of the comparable quarter a year ago. Profits fell 6 percent to $407 million from $434 million in the year-ago quarter. Viacom Executive Chairman Sumner Redstone, who had hoped to boost Viacom's share price by splitting the company from CBS Inc. -- but saw the stock slip precipitously afterwards instead -- was philosophical about the results. "There is opportunity even in difficult economic times," he said in a conference call.

The Dark Knight Is Filled With Mistakes

29 July 2008 5:11 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Director Christopher Nolan's movie The Dark Knight has become one of the most mistake-ridden films of the year so far - eagle-eyed cinema-goers have spotted 16 bloopers in it.

The Batman Begins sequel has become a box office smash worldwide, taking an astonishing $440 million (GBP220 million) at movie theatres in the film's first 10 days of release.

But observant visitors to website MovieMistakes.com have noted a variety of continuity errors and historical inaccuracies in the Christian Bale-starring blockbuster - up from the 12 mistakes found in 2005's Batman Begins.

The errors include characters' altering hairstyles, mis-matched audio, and an additional police truck magically appearing in a car chase scene.

However, The Dark Knight's faults are nowhere near as bad as those in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The Harrison Ford-starring film currently holds the top spot for the movie with the most errors so far this year - it features a whopping 40 bloopers.

LaBeouf Faces DUI Charge After Sunday Morning Car Crash

27 July 2008 4:00 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Latest: Transformers star Shia LaBeouf is in trouble with the law again after he was arrested early on Sunday and charged with drink driving.

Police questioned the young star after he was involved in a car accident in Los Angeles, and quickly realised he had been drinking.

The Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull star's truck flipped across a road after colliding with another vehicle.

Labeouf, 22, and his passenger were injured in the accident. The actor smashed his hand in the crash and will reportedly require surgery to fix the damage.

His unnamed passenger sustained a minor head injury, according to TMZ.com. LaBeouf was taken to hospital following the accident.

Reports suggest the actor will be cited and released on suspicion of a DUI misdemeanour.

LaBeouf's brushes with the law have hit the headlines on a number of occasions in the past year - in November, he was booked on trespassing charges after refusing to leave a drugstore in Chicago, Illinois and in February, he was charged with smoking in a prohibited area in California.

The X-Files: I Want To Believe review

24 July 2008 8:04 PM, PDT | From TwitchFilm.net | See recent Twitch news

I wanted to believe the hype - in this case the ever-so strategically implemented reveal-nothing promotional campaign - that the return of the “X-Files” would be a cinematic event worth celebrating.  For such a super-secret hush-hush summer film, it’s rather surprising that “The X-Files: I Want to Believe” turns out to merely be a modest, and unfortunately, inconsequential film.  Like “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” earlier this summer, “X-Files” is an under-baked effort that clearly intends to coast on a loyal fan base that is hungry to see their favorite characters in action once again, regardless of overall quality.  For those people, the film may be marginally more enjoyable than it will be to the so-so fan, or non-fan.  I’d count myself in one of those latter categories – never a rabid fan, but someone who’s seen enough “X-Files” to know that the show

Hellboy 2 took me down. I'm man enough to admit that. My only joy will be when Dark Knight sends it to a healthy 54% drop next weekend. #1 movie predicted correctly: 0 Weeks In A Row 1. Hellboy 2: The Golden Army This prediction feels heavy to me. I bet they come in closer to $35m on Monday because a title with "hell" in it is not going to attract the church crowd. However, it's Del Toro's biggest opening and a clear sign that he's grown the initial audience. Kudos to him. Result: 35.8 million (My rank: #2, $9.5m off) 2. Hancock Interestingly enough, I underestimated this one too. It didn't face the normal 55% beating that most 4th of July films take. The general public likes this one I suppose. Or, say it with me now, the weekend was a weak one overall in terms of competition. Result: 33.0 million (My rank: #1, $4.1m off) 3. Journey to
