Merry Christmas Mr Bean--a holiday classic!
bartonim17 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
He's not for everyone, Mr Bean. Some loath him, but others love him. Either way, there is no disputing Rowan Atkinson's comic genius, and it is no more evident than here, in 'Merry Christmas Mr Bean,' one of the most beloved among Bean's antics. In this holiday classic, Bean shops for Christmas ornaments, plays with some toys in Harrods, and buys his girlfriend a couple of 'surprise' gifts. He also attempts to stuff a turkey, and loses his watch along the way! This Mr Bean episode is probably one of the most popular--so if you've not seen it, give yourself some laughs! It may not be as warm and soothing a seasonal tale as other classics (White Christmas, it ain't!), but it is certainly a comic treat.

I agree--this is in contention for the best of the Bean shows.

While I still think "Do-it-yourself Bean" is the very best show, this one sure comes close and is a delight for the holidays. And, like the best of the series, every time you think the show is giving way to sentiment or showing Bean to be a nice guy, there is a twist and he turns out to be a selfish and clueless jerk.

The show begins with Bean at the department store (I assume it's Harrod's). I won't try to describe all the action here and in the rest of the show, but it's amazing how Rowan Atkinson is able to make so much of just a few stupid props--mainly a nativity set and a few toys. After making a thorough nuisance of himself here, he goes outside to do a bit of shopping with his girlfriend, directs a band, steals Christmas tree, and lots of other craziness.

The next act finds Bean at home preparing for tomorrow--which is Christmas day. Again, I really can't describe it all--you just need to see it. The turkey (which is either fake or an ostrich), the carolers and the exchange of gifts with his soon to be ex-girlfriend. You just have to see it all to believe and appreciate it.

The bottom line is that Bean is very creative here, VERY selfish and totally clueless. Again, you just have to see it all to believe it--and it's a hoot.

Christmas magic.
Sleepin_Dragon3 June 2022
Mr Bean is making Christmas preparations, Irma is hoping for a big surprise.

Is this the best episode of Mr Bean? It's certainly a Contender for it, it's certainly the best remembered, largely due to one scene in particular, the one with the turkey.

It's loaded with funny moments, loved the scenes in Harrods, but of course it's those with the turkey that make this one so memorable.

You'll spot a Blackadder link if you're looking for it, nice that the great show is remembered.

There is nothing quite like a visit to Harrods at Christmas, I'll applaud the team for giving us some Christmas magic. It's hilariously funny, but sweet and nostalgic at the same time.

Perfect, 10/10.

One of Bean's most popular episodes. With a reason.
Atreyu_II17 February 2010
Warning: Spoilers
'Merry Christmas, Mr. Bean' is one of the best and most popular episodes of the famous British sitcom. This is Mr. Bean at his best! The episode is completely amusing, you can laugh from the beginning until the ending.

But the biggest surprises come at the end, where you can see the funniest moments of it. As we all know, this episode takes place at Christmas time. Bean's house is decorated and his girlfriend comes to his house. They've got sandwiches for dinner (that's right, sandwiches) and when the time of giving presents come, Bean's girlfriend is expecting an engagement ring. Instead, he gives her a portrait used as part of the shop's window dressing for the ring. She cries, but then he mutters "I forgot the main bit!". Then he takes out a ring box and gives it to her. As she opens the box eagerly, she finds out that it isn't an engagement ring but a hook for hanging the picture. Then she leaves very upset.

Non-Bean Fan Loves This

First of all, I have never understood the humour of Mr Bean though I appreciate that Rowan Atkinson is talented in his own way.

That being said, this episode is epic. It is endearing and has so many funny parts to look forward to. It is in my Christmas "must watch" rotation each year.

Hilarious Christmas Special from the year 1992
rebeccaajclarke23 November 2022
I find this Christmas Special is very hilarious, because of the amazing festive sketches, First there's the Christmas shopping at Harrods' Shopping Centre as well as the Nativity Scene, Then how much does the Turkey weigh competition at the Butchers shop, Then the Festive music composing sketch, Then putting the Christmas Cards, Stockings and Listening to the Children's Christmas Carolers scene at Mr. Bean's Apartment, Then it's Christmas day, Then the Hilarious Turkey on Mr. Bean's head scene when His Love Interest Irma Gobb's visit to Mr. Bean's place for a Christmas dinner, and finally the saddest part is the Christmas present for Irma Gobb that made her heartbroken, Because of Mr. Bean's incompetence and miscommunication, It maybe end on a sour note, But it is a very good Christmas Special, I'm giving this a 10/10, and Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas, Mr. Bean

Warning: Spoilers
The bit where he prats around with the nativity stable aside this is a very funny episode of the show, with some wonderful moments.

And yes, the writers/creatives are right - 'Friends' absolutely ripped this episode off in terms of turkey's getting stuck on heads.

Great stuff overall.

Merry Christmas Mr Bean of 2022
MarkLynnIreland129426 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm giving a review this special Christmas episode of live series of Mr Bean since it was released for about three decades ago.

This episode gave me many laughs and memorable moments like Bean making nativity play of his own (using a dalek, T-Rex dinosaur, and with a helicopter with magnet move baby Jesus into a doll's house), catching a pickpocket nicking money and jewelry whilst also conducting brass band Salvation Army, watching the carol singers (singing "Away in a Manger") as Christmas Eve entertainment (have nothing nice to watch on his television) and of course losing his watch in the large turkey before his Christmas dinner is stuck on his head which is totally iconic moment of comedy.

Initially thought it was funny, find it silly when he's overexcited getting out of bed on Christmas morning.

In terms of trivia, this is last episode with Matilda Ziegler as his girlfriend Irma yet some reason she goes back to him in the animated series. And that turkey gag was also used in Animated Series episode: Dinner for Two.
