I still have a hard time looking at James McAvoy as a big, serious star; to me he's still the porn-addicted little bro' from Wimbledon. But the guy is cool nonetheless, and he's been proving his chops left and right these last few years. McAvoy signed on to headline Mandate Pictures' comedic adaptation of the book I'm With Cancer by Will Reiser, following the author and screenwriter's own victorious battle with the disease in his 20s. Assuming "Comedic" means... »

Releasing on August 21 is the under-the-radar feature My One and Only from Freestyle Releasing starring Renee Zellweger and Kevin Bacon with Richard Loncraine (Wimbledon) directing. Of course, the fact Loncraine is directing doesn't immediately turn our eye to the film itself as both Wimbledon and Firewall weren't exactly the epitome of filmmaking (although I didn't mind Firewall as much as some others did). However, Zellweger has become synonymous with the Oscar hunt and this is her only chance in 2009. Personally the film looks a bit too cheesy to me and the narration pretty much closes the door on my interest as it basically sells the film as generic schlock, but that's just me. Give the trailer a watch below or head over to Yahoo for the high definiton version. »

Julianne Moore has dropped out of the HBO Films/BBC Films movie The Special Relationship because of a scheduling conflict with the comedy The Kids Are Alright. The actress, who was slated to play Hilary Clinton, has been replaced by Hope Davis (American Splendor, Synecdoche, New York). Moore’s departure comes only a couple of weeks after screenwriter Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon) dropped out of directing the film. Morgan, who penned the screenplay and will still be involved as a producer, was replaced by Richard Loncraine (Firewall, Wimbledon). The film would have marked Morgan’s directorial debut. Special Relationship chronicles the unique and sometimes turbulent political relationship between newly installed British Prime Minister Tony Blair and U.S. President Bill Clinton in the late 1990s. Dennis Quaid is on board to play President Clinton and Michael Sheen as Prime Minister Blair and Helen McCrory as Cherie Blair. Sheen and McCrory »

Michael Sheen is devastated after his director pal Peter Morgan quit work on his new Tony Blair movie The Special Relationship.
The pair has shared a close friendship since the screenwriter cast the actor in his 2006 play Frost/Nixon, which went onto become Sheen's Oscar-nominated movie. Morgan was also responsible for casting Sheen as former British Prime Minister Blair in his critically acclaimed film The Queen.
Morgan was set to make his directorial debut in The Special Relationship - based on Blair's political relationship with former U.S. President Bill Clinton.
He has now pulled out just weeks before filming was due to start, without giving any reason for his decision - leaving Sheen struggling to comprehend the news.
A source tells Britain's the Daily Express newspaper, "Michael and Peter have a very successful history together so this will inevitably come as a blow to Michael. Michael now has to get used to working with a different director."
British filmmaker Richard Loncraine, who directed 2004 movie Wimbledon, will replace Morgan in the drama, which is due for release in 2011.
Morgan recently signed up to co-write the next James Bond installment, in which Sheen is rumoured to star as 007's arch enemy Blofeld. »

Peter Morgan has dropped out of directing the HBO Films/BBC Films movie The Special Relationship, which would have been his third film to feature British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Richard Loncraine, whose credits include Firewall and Wimbledon, has signed on to replace him. The film will follow unique and sometimes turbulent political relationship between newly installed British Prime Minister Tony Blair and U.S. President Bill Clinton in the late 1990s. Dennis Quaid is set to play Clinton and Michael Sheen will play Blair. Julianne Moore and Helen McCrory will play spouses Hillary Clinton and Cherie Blair, respectively. Sheen, whose recent credits include Frost/Nixon and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, played Blair in the Morgan-scripted The Deal and The Queen. Deal tracked the rise of Tony Blair and The Queen, which earned Helen Mirren an Oscar for best actress and a nomination for Morgan for best original screenplay, »

Peter Morgan was on his way toward a Tony Blair hat trick, preparing to write and direct The Special Relationship after writing both the BBC movie The Deal and 2006's The Queen. Michael Sheen will have played the British prime minister in all three films, but now he'll be doing it with Richard Loncraine as a director, with Morgan just on board as a writer and executive producer. THR doesn't explain why Morgan bailed, simply quoting a statement from HBO that Morgan will still be "Integrally involved in every aspect of the production." The Special Relationship will focus on the political dynamic between Bill Clinton (Dennis Quaid) and Blair, also featuring Julianne Moore as Hillary Clinton and Helen McCrory as Cheri Blair. Loncraine has a new movie coming out this summer, the comedy My One and Only, and also made 2004's Wimbledon. »

Written by Matt Goldberg Paul Bettany is one of the most under-rated actors working today. The guy should be a massive star but he keeps finding his ways into sub-par films where he does his best to elevate the material. And whether you find the films good or not, he is inarguably one of the strongest assets to movies like "Master and Commander", "Wimbledon", and the recent "Inkheart". So I'm down with him playing a Priest who hunts Vampires, as anime as that premise sounds. "Priest" would reunite Bettany with his "Legion" director Scott Stewart. The story s set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampire and follows a warrior priest (Bettany) who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece. Cory Goodman ("The Brood") wrote the screenplay. I have a ... »

Exposing previously that the rehearsals for "Iron Man 2" have been kicked off, director Jon Favreau confirmed the casting of Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson on the Los Angeles premiere of "I Love You, Man" on Tuesday, March 17. To Entertainment Tonight, the filmmaker/actor said, "Our main cast is all lined up, everbody's deals are signed."
Specifically discussing about Rourke, the "Wimbledon" actor shared, "Well, I hear Mickey's been in Russia doing research for a role. I can confirm that." Though remaining coy about which part Rourke will be playing, he gushed, "We haven't made any official announcements yet. But I will say there is a Russian villain in our film."
On Johansson's involvement, the 42-year-old fessed up, "Scarlett is somebody I've been wanting to work with for a while. She's a great actor." He then added, "We've been talking for a while and we haven't announced anything yet but »

Richard Loncraine is ready to produce and direct "The Perfect Margarita."
Written by Geoff Deane, the film follows a New York marriage counselor who leads a messy life. While his best friend is trying hard to help him find a girlfriend, he suddenly realizes he feels more for her than he thought.
Loncraine told Variety the project will be a feel-good movie because he thinks people are not looking for dark films and unhappy endings in times of a troubled economy.
Loncraine also directed the decent romance "Wimbledon," which starred Paul Bettany and Kirsten Dunst. He followed up with 2006's disappointing thriller "Firewall."
"My One and Only," Loncraine's latest comedy with Renee Zellweger, Nick Stahl and Kevin Bacon, is currently competing at the Berlin Film Festival. »

Actress Jennifer Connelly knew she was destined to be with Paul Bettany - because he immediately bonded with her shy son.
The star met the Wimbledon actor on the set of 2001 movie A Beautiful Mind and introduced him to her then four-year-old son Kai.
And it was seeing Bettany's positive effect on the youngster's confidence that convinced Connelly he was the man for her.
She tells Britain's Harper's Bazaar magazine, "One of my first memories of Paul was him hanging out with Kai in my trailer one day, during filming. They were playing, and they had all the cushions out and they'd made some sort of obstacle course.
"And I remember, at that age, Kai was very attached to me and came with me everywhere, so at a certain point, I said, 'I'm going to go next-door to the make-up trailer. Do you wanna come?' And he said, 'No, I'm going to stay here.'
"The two of them just hit it off immediately."
The couple married in 2003 and have a five-year-old son, Stellan. »
