The 1992 Beach Blast was a pretty good event. There were many good matches, a few OK matches and some very bad matches. Far and away the best match of the night was the Iron Man Match between Rick Rude and Ricky Steamboat. The main event sucked as it was for the WCW Tag Titles and the match itself was bad. Scott Stenier and Rick Stenier vs. Terry Gordy and Steve Williams. It lasted half an hour. One 30 minute Iron Man Match was enough we didn't need another 30 minute match especially with Scott Stenier who could lose in a race against an ant. Below I have the top 3 matches and the bottom 3 matches.

Top 3: 1. Rick Rude vs. Ricky Steamboat 2. Sting vs. Cactus Jack 3. Scitty Flamingo vs. Brian Pillman

Bottom 3: 1. The Steniers vs. Terry Gordy and Steve Williams 2. Dusty Rhodes, Dustin Rhodes, Barry Windham and Nikita Koloff vs. The Dangerous Alliance

3.Greg Valentine vs. Marcus Bagwell

Overall it was a pretty good but like a lot of WCW PPV's it had to many bad matches.

Pretty decent for the most part!

Warning: Spoilers
Live from Mobile, AL

Attendance 5,000

Your commentators are Jim Ross & Jessie Ventura

Light Heavyweight Championship

'Flyin' Brian Pillman Vs Scotty Flamingo

Flamingo is Raven. Anyways, Flamingo wins the title. This was a solid opener. It's hampered a bit by a couple of slow spots, but this is a fun match for the most part. It had some great drama near the end.

**3/4 out of 5

Ron Simmons Vs Terry Taylor

Simmons wins with a powerslam. This match was nothing special. These two didn't have great chemistry out there. It was kind of clashing of styles as well. I didn't hate it, but I didn't particularly care for it either.

*3/4 out of 5

Marcus Bagwell Vs Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine

Valentine wins by submission with the Figure Four. I'm happy Valentine won, but he was kind of past his prime at this juncture. Bagwell was never a truly great wrestler either. As a result, this match was mediocre.

*1/2 out of 5

Falls Count Anywhere

Sting Vs Cactus Jack

Sting wins. I enjoyed this match very much. Mick Foley is a master at these types of matches and Sting was his perfect match. It's not quite as good as Cactus's Falls Count Anywhere match with Vader at Halloween Havoc in 93, but it's pretty good.

***1/4 out of 5

30 Minute Iron Man Match

'Ravishing' Rick Rude Vs Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat

Steamboat wins 4 falls to 3. This was a very good match for the most part. Aside from some boring rest holds, these two wrestled their asses off for 30 minutes and put on one hell of a show with some great back and forth action.I was very impressed.

***1/2 out of 5

'Stunning' Steve Austin, Bobby Eaton & Arn Anderson Vs Nikita Koloff, Dustin Rhodes & Barry Windham

The team of Koloff, Rhodes & Windham win the match by DQ. Well, all that for nothing. The finish really angered me. I get that you had to be protective, but a clean finish would have been nice. The match was rather disjointed and all over the place.

** out of 5

Ricky Steamboat is interviewed by Eric Bischoff. Paul E. Dangerously interrupts and claims Steamboat will never get another United States title shot again. Cactus Jack attacks Steamboat from behind and gets into a big brawl with him.

Tag Team Championship

The Steiner Brothers (C) Vs 'Dr. Death' Steve Williams & Terry Gordy

They fight to a 30 minute time-limit draw. Both teams worked hard, but this was TOO long and rather slow at some points. All that for that inane finish? It really angered me. I also question why this was chosen as the main event. Sting and Cactus Jack should have gone last.

In A Word...Okay.
Big Movie Fan2 August 2002
In my opinion WCW from the mid 80's up to about late 1992 had a fine roster full of talented wrestlers such as Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Lex Luger, Barry Windham, Arn Anderson and the late Flyin' Brian. On weekly programmes such as WCW Saturday Night and WCW Worldwide they kept us entertained in unpredictable and exciting matches.

However, at times WCW PPV's were pretty average. It was not down to the wrestlers-WCW had some disorganized people running things at times. Also, one area WCW was always weak in was promoting and hyping their PPV events. Beach Blast 1992 was not hyped very well back in 1992.

The card itself was well above average. There are three matches that really stand out. Sting faced Cactus Jack in a falls count anywhere match. Cactus Jack was always a maniac who cared nothing for his body or welfare and this added to the entertainment. Ricky Steamboat faced the late Rick Rude in a 30 minute Iron Man match; it was awesome at times. In the other great match, the late Flyin' Brian battled the arrogant Scotty Flamingo in a decent opener.

Beach Blast 1992 was okay but it was devoid of hype. A good wrestling show has to be hyped for it to be any good. This is what sets apart a good wrestling card from an average one.

Beach Blast 1992 Review and Ratings

Warning: Spoilers
Junkyard Dog, Tom Zenk and Big Josh defeated Tracy Smothers, Richard Morton and Diamond Dallas Page (Not on WWE Network).

**/***** Scotty Flamingo defeated Brian Pillman (c) for the WCW Light Heavyweight Championship **/***** Ron Simmons defeated Terry Taylor /***** Greg Valentine defeated Marcus Bagwell by submission ***/***** Sting defeated Cactus Jack Falls Count Anywhere match ****/***** Ricky Steamboat defeated Rick Rude 4-3 in a 30 Minute Iron Man match **/***** Dustin Rhodes, Barry Windham and Nikita Koloff defeated The Dangerous Alliance (Arn Anderson, Steve Austin and Bobby Eaton) (with Paul E. Dangerously and Madusa) by disqualification Six-man tag team match

****/***** The Steiner Brothers (Rick and Scott) (c) vs. Terry Gordy and Steve Williams ended in a time-limit draw Tag team match for the WCW World Tag Team Championship.

The Light Heavyweight division is already in trouble, no challengers of Pillman's level mean it is on borrowed time. This is a mat-based match with only a smattering of what you would like to see from lighter, more agile performers. The finish is terrible too. Scotty Flamingo is not an engaging character.

Johnny B. Badd is insufferable as the host of the bikini contest. The whole process is pure filler. Madusa and Missy Hyatt were gorgeous, of course, but this is a waste of everyone's time and the innuendo is sub-Carry On level. It also ends on what is, ostensibly, a sexual assault. All around it's thoroughly grubby.

Simmons continues his winning streak which is all good, his match with Taylor is fine but lacks any real purpose or pizazz. Greg Valentine has no place on a PPV in 1992, his ponderous, oldskool styling is a real anachronism.

Positives - Ventura sounds honestly annoyed he didn't get to MC the bikini contest and is funny when he does get involved.

Sting and Jack have great chemistry, Cactus was always a very convincing maniac, and an incredible bumper, the exact kind of foil Sting always worked best with.

Steamboat and Rude have a dramatic and well-paced Iron Man match, a stip that can only be carried by talent like this, and a quality, heated feud. Rude's panic at the end is a great touch. The Steamboat/Jack brawl is great stuff and points the way for Ricky's next challenge.

Unlike his former Freebird buddies, Terry Gordy and his tag partner Steve Williams carry serious, hard-hitting legitimacy in '92 and their match with The Steiners is great.
