Beautifully Riveting!
CosmicDwellings18 October 2006
Here is the 'King of Romance' live in concert at the L.A. Forum in 1995 singing the songs from his classic "Love Unchained" album plus many, many more.

This is a performance that is both beautiful and riveting and nobody can do it this way other than Engelbert himself. There have been so many venues around the globe that have been touched by his sheer magic and showmanship through the years and these include The London Palladium, The Greek Theatre and The Riviera. However, it is on this DVD at The Forum that Enge completely makes it his romantic realm.

Accompanied by a fabulous orchestra conducted by the late Bebu Silvetti we are treated to some beautiful renditions of most of the tracks on his "Love Unchained" album including "Love Is A Many Splendoured Thing", "Too Young", "Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay", and "Unchained Melody". And, of course, a couple of his classics from yesteryear are in there too, namely "Release Me", the haunting "Shadow Of Your Smile" and "After The Lovin'".

There is a special treat in store from the backing singer and 'front woman' the lovely Michaelina who also duets on a couple of numbers with Enge, and their finale is really something else! Another bonus includes Engelbert being filmed in the recording studios singing "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" which isn't featured in the actual concert.

So, a wonderful show that hits the right spots and there is also a bonus interview on the DVD with the man from his home in Leicestershire...you're not going to be disappointed!

RX: Englebert! Englebert's Best Concert for Challenging Times in Our World
cabinfever-9773712 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
His most soothing and warm concert performance yet - especially for times such as these. Wonderful love songs are the focus with a 54 string orchestra. One can tell how Englebert's working with beloved peers to bring this album and concert to be is also a work of love. His producer and arranger share a tremendous dedication to the art of music. Both also give great credit to God for their talent and opportunities during a mini-documentary within the recorded dovetailed into this production. The wonderful finish is true elegance as Engelbert opts for another healing balm we all need, as he sings "Ava Maria"arising from deep faith and love of all those in his life - including the audience. What a finish!! I found myself smiling throughout the entire concert and giving standing ovations each time the audience did - as I felt I was there too - right here in my living room. Thank you, Englebert, and all who made this concert possible way back in the 90's. What a ministry of music you have given us to bring us through our challenging times. We thank you for the musical gift that continues! Love, Allison

The last waltz?
endjie24 September 2003
In this tv-special we see Engelbert Humperdinck in supershape, vocally, physically and still goodlooking. And all this at age 61. If you compare this show to the special he did at the London Palladium only a few years later, you almost can't believe the bad vocal shape he displayed in that show. But in Love Unchained he sings beautifully with a full orchestra in a classsical way. He not only sings hits like Release me and Portofino, but also songs that he grew up with in the forties and fifties. And nobody in history sang ballads better than Engelbert Humperdinck... Let's treasure this show as one of the last shows he did when he was still in good vocal shape...
