Mark Wahlberg Hates David Beckham for Ruining His Neighborhood

28 December 2009 11:05 PM, PST | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Some people might be thrilled of having David Beckham and Victoria Adams as their neighbors, but that doesn't happen with Mark Wahlberg. In fact, he is a little upset over the Beckhams' move to his Beverly Hills neighborhood in Los Angeles, claiming that the Beckhams have "ruined the neighborhood."

"Man, the Beckhams. It used to be so quiet on my road. Then David moves in with his family. Suddenly we've got paparazzi hanging out day and night," the "Max Payne" actor shared, as quoted by the Daily Mail. "Now they'll follow any car that drives down the road."

Wahlberg went on by stating that Beckham, who joined football club Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007, is wasting his time if he wants to popularize the sport in the U.S. The 38-year-old actor said, "I'm just not sure why he came to America in the first place. Man, we don't want your soccer. »

The Best of the Decade: Remakes

27 December 2009 12:14 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Talking about remakes is tough. On the one hand, as a film lover the ideal scenario is that remakes should be an endangered species; that filmmakers will spend their time and money investing in new ideas instead of rehashing other people's dreams. On the other hand, some film's are worth remaking because, A) the original didn't fulfill its potential in the first place, or B) the story is strong enough to tell over and over.

When it comes down to talking about the quality of a remake, things get even tougher. Take this Best Remakes of the Decade list, for example. Just because a film finds itself on said list doesn't mean it is inherently better than the original film, just that I think it's a fine film in its own right that happens to have the label "remake" attached to it. In compiling this Top 10 - which is numbered, »

All the Bachchans together on screen

Producer-cum-actor Abhishek Bachchan says the experience of producing Paa has made him grow up. He says, .High time it did so. People keep asking me what we are producing next. At the moment I don.t want to leave Paa behind. I.m completely engrossed with Paa and how to take it forward, including the DVD release..Abhishek says Paa had recovered its costs only two days after its release but he chooses to be cautious in his exuberance. He says, .My very dear friend Aditya Chopra told me, .It.s very rare when the audience decides to love you and when they do you must be very thankful for that. I feel no sense of vindication. I didn.t make Paa to prove any point to everyone. I just wanted to make an A-grade product with a cast to match within a given reasonable budget and without compromise..Now »

Blu-ray Review: The Negotiator

17 December 2009 12:39 PM, PST | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

“He frees hostages for a living. Now he’s taking hostages to survive.” With advertising taglines like that, it was all too easy to write The Negotiator off before it was ever released. But those who could find their way past the bad advertising campaign found a good drama-thriller with a somewhat original idea. Not great, but definitely good. Director F. Gary Gray (Friday, The Italian Job) brings together a talented cast highlighted by the standoff between Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey. Jackson plays Danny Roman, a talented Chicago hostage negotiator whose out-of-the-box tactics are ensuring his career is going swimmingly. Then a fellow cop presents him with information that some officers may be embezzling money. (Surely, not in Chicago’s upstanding force). Roman maintains his innocence throughout, and in an effort to prove it finds himself creating, rather than resolving, a hostage situation. Roman demands Chris Sabian (Spacey), another famed Chicago negotiator, »

December 4: DVD alternatives to this weekend’s multiplex offerings

5 December 2009 4:33 PM, PST | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

We know how it is: You’d like to go to the movies this weekend, but you’ll be busy planning your robbery of an armored car so you can pay for your holiday celebrations. But you can have a multiplex-like experience at home with a collection of the right DVDs. And when someone asks you on Monday, “Hey, did you see Armored this weekend?” you can reply, “No, I watched a bunch of other heist movies instead.” Instead Of: Armored, a crime drama about a group of security guards who decide to hold up the armored-car company that employs them... Watch: Do not miss director Nimród Antal’s debut feature, 2003’s Kontroll, a deeply intriguing look at ticket collectors on Budapest’s subway system; it may sound unlikely, but it’s a great film, very spooky and atmospheric. One of the great heist movies of recent years is the 2003 remake The Italian Job, »

Review: Armored

4 December 2009 2:15 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

The delicate planning scenario (The Great Train Robbery, Rififi), the humorous spin (Small Time Crooks, Quick Change), the hidden master plan (Inside Man, The Lookout), the crew of hardened professionals (Ronin, Heat), the sexy, over-the-top robbery (Oceans 12, The Italian Job), and the aftermath (Reservoir Dogs); these are the six core orbits almost all heist films fall into. If one were to draw a Venn diagram depicting the overlap between the six circles, Nimrod Antal's Armored would land almost exclusively in the aftermath category. There's no planning involved, no comic relief, no last minute twist, no grandiose kidnapping, no inkling of men with enough skill to count how many exits there are from any room they're in.

No, Armored is a simple story of a group of blue collar workers who ferry millions in cash to and fro for an armored transport escort service and decide one day that they're going »

Exclusive: Nicolas Cage Wants To Know If You've Heard Anything About 'Ghost Rider 2'

30 November 2009 8:30 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

From Splash Page: Nicolas Cage’s 2007 hit “Ghost Rider” may have made $115 million, but two years later it seems to be existing in that same state of Hollywood limbo as barely-blockbusters like “The Sum of All Fears,” “Hairspray,” or “The Italian Job” — sequel rumors pop up, but there’s some doubt whether one would cement a bigger “Bourne”-like box-office increase, or a “Tomb Raider”-esque over-anticipation of demand. And despite reports of movement on David Goyer's "Ghost Rider" sequel script, Cage says he’s the wrong person to ask these days for updates.

“You probably know more about it then I do,” laughed the veteran actor when asked about the project. “What have you read?"

Cage said he hadn’t heard anything about Goyer's sequel — which is set 10 years after the first film — and is afraid to comment on his future with the character these days.

Genelia D'Souza and Neil Nitin Mukesh dominate the newsstands for December with their electrifying cover for Filmfare magazine, confirming their status as two of the hottest new Gen-Next stars of the year. He has also dominated the festival circuit with Tere Kya Hoga Johnny. He’s now been signed up, along with Katrina Kaif and Abhishek Bachchan for the Indian remake of The Italian Job.

Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy Hit the ‘Fury Road’

2 November 2009 7:00 AM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

These days it’s hard to go a week without hearing about some remake/reboot coming out of Hollywood. Few of these films can claim they’ve been in the rumor mill for as long as Mad Max: Fury Road.  After two decades, however, actual development is occurring  on the next installment of the Mad Max franchise.

Variety is reporting that Charlize Theron (The Italian Job, Hancock) and Tom Hardy (Black Hawk Down, Star Trek: Nemesis, Bronson) have both been cast in Fury Road.  Now, as interesting as that casting is everyone is still anxiously waiting to find out if Mel Gibson will reprise his role as Mad Max. When Director George Miller was asked about this he was vague to say the least, “It could be Mel, it could be anyone.”

Whether Gibson is involved or not I’m left wondering if this particular film needs a sequel »

Monster Squad Finds A Shrek-Type Director

19 October 2009 5:26 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

If you are like me (and we can only hope you have more of a life than I do), then when you read the title you were hoping it was a remake or sequel to the awesome young boys monster movie from the 80’s, The Monster Squad. Alas, this is not the case because the Warner Bros film was previously titled Nightcrawlers and will be a supernatural action comedy. Great, that means somewhere Will Ferrell will make a ridiculous cameo or heaven forbid, have a starring role.

Warner Bros. Studios has tapped Mike Mitchell (Sky High, Shrek Forever After) to helm the new Monster Squad movie which will work off of a nine year-old spec script written by Brian Lynch and rewritten by Brad Copeland (Wild Hogs). Donald De Line (The Italian Job) is attached to produce and the studio hopes to start filming next summer 2010.

Interview: Director F. Gary Gray of ‘Law Abiding Citizen’ With Jamie Foxx

16 October 2009 6:14 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Justice is the theme of “Law Abiding Citizen,” a new film starring Jamie Foxx as a district attorney in Philadelphia who is targeted for revenge by a former client (Gerald Butler). Directing the film is veteran F. Gary Gray (”Friday,” “The Italian Job”).

Rating: 3.0/5.0

Taking a page from Hannibal Lechter, Gerald Butler portrays Clyde, an self-proclaimed “law abiding citizen” who feels that the crime committed against his family was not satisfactorily punished. Using his superior technical intelligence, Clyde stays one step ahead of ambitious attorney Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx), as he conducts his style of revenge.

Gerard Butler in Law Abiding Citizen

Photo: Overture Films "Some justice is better than no justice at all," says Jamie Foxx playing Nick Price, a Philadelphia prosecutor in charge of bringing justice to the two men that killed Clyde Shelton's (Gerard Butler) wife and young daughter in Law Abiding Citizen. It's a statement that speaks to the cracks in the American justice system and as a result Clyde is going to see to it these cracks are turned into canyons once he learns only one of the men will be sentenced to death while the other serves a meager three-year sentence. This is something Clyde simply can't tolerate.

Law Abiding Citizen is madness, mayhem and carnage all wrapped up into one big dumb actioner filled with plot and logic holes galore. Fortunately, it's too much fun along the way to even concern yourself with the hows and the whys of it all. »

Law Abiding Citizen Review

16 October 2009 12:57 AM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Remember Charles Bronson in Death Wish? Law Abiding Citizen offers a taste of no-mercy vigilante family-man justice 3.0. Ten years after his wife and daughter were slaughtered in front of him, Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) kidnaps one of the perpetrators, straps him down to a torture table, and saws off his limbs (and other things). Then he sends a video of the atrocity to Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx), the slick, out-for-himself Philadelphia prosecutor who cut too soft a deal with the killer…read more [EW]

When “Law Abiding Citizen” feels comfortable enough to be a blunt object of suspense, it comes together splendidly. Pitting the harsh realities of the modern justice system against the suburban cry for blood from a soccer dad, Kurt Wimmer’s screenplay nurtures a pungent odor of injustice that sets up the plot in an exhilarating manner. Morally frozen lawyers? Tired, careless judges? Wimmer manipulates audience reaction superbly, »

Sutherland & Foster Join Statham In ‘Mechanic’ Remake

15 October 2009 10:53 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

About six months ago, we reported on Jason Statham being cast in the remake of the 1972 action crime-thriller, The Mechanic, about a hitman who takes on an apprentice. At the time there was word that the remake would be a remake in name only, and the story would be changed to a modern-day spy thriller. However, with the latest casting news, it appears the story will be pretty similar if not the same as the original.

Promising news, I say.

Variety is reporting that Donald Sutherland and Ben Foster (Pandorum, X-Men: The Last Stand) are set to co-star with Statham in The Mechanic remake, which is set to be directed by Simon West (Con Air - one of my favorites, Fyi ) from a screenplay by Karl Gajdusek. Foster is set to play Statham’s hitman apprentice, Steve McKenna (the original role was played by Jan-Michael Vincent), and Sutherland will play »

Law Abiding Citizen (review)

15 October 2009 9:43 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

It had me at kaboom, this thorny moral conundrum of a film, and kept me for a long time. Kept me wondering who was the good guy and who was the villain until I started to dare to believe that maybe this would be the rare studio film that doesn’t feel the need to break things down so prettily. Kept me marveling at how the gray areas were staying gray and the complicated, no-easy-answers stuff kept getting more complicated. And then it lost me, nay, threw me overboard when it threw out all the tricksy pointedness and threw its lot in with those who are willing to throw out the baby of the American legal system with the bathwater of its problems. It’s all about the brokenness of our criminal justice system, this Law Abiding Citizen flick, which anyone can see is broken to the point at which »

Director F. Gary Gray Exclusive Interview Law Abiding Citizen

14 October 2009 3:50 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Opening this Friday is director F. Gary Gray’s “Law Abiding Citizen”. The film is about Gerard Butler’s character taking matters into his own hands after his family is brutally murdered during a home invasion and the justice system fails to fully prosecute the men involved. Jamie Foxx plays the prosecutor and the film is a cat and mouse game between these two great actors.

Anyway, last week I was able to get on the phone with F. Gary Gray and we talked about why he took so long between movies and what was the reason he wanted to make this film. And for fans of DVDs, Gray revealed there will be an unrated directors cut of “Law Abiding Citizen” when it hits home video. Of course we also talked about other subjects and I got an update on the sequel to “The Italian Job”. Our conversation after the jump:
