Warner Bros. To Package All Videos In One Box

18 December 2009 10:00 AM, PST | Studio Briefing - Film News | See recent Studio Briefing - Film News news »

Given several studies indicating that consumers who have not yet purchased high-definition TV sets or Blu-ray players have been holding off purchasing home video titles until they do, Warner Bros. announced Thursday that it plans to make all their video releases "combo packs." Beginning February 23, all new movies will come with a Blu-ray version of Warner's films, a standard DVD version, and a digital version for playing on computers and mobile devices. And, in an initiative to make its older releases more attractive, Warner plans to offer several of its classic films packaged with their sequels for $24.95. They will include: Dirty Harry/Magnum Force, Analyze This/Analyze That, Presumed Innocent/Frantic, Miss Congeniality/Miss Congeniality 2 and Grumpy Old Men/Grumpier Old Men. »

Sesame Street: Michelle Obama celebrates show's anniversary

10 November 2009 8:42 AM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

The first lady is appearing on Sesame Street today as the show reaches its 40th birthday. What lessons can she learn from other celebrity appearances?

See our gallery of 40 years of Sesame Street

Sesame Street – the TV show responsible for your misguided belief that certain areas of Brooklyn are populated by freakishly tall canaries and their severely depressed elephant friends – is 40 years old today.

And how is such an important show going to mark such an important anniversary? By unveiling a new short-form documentary clip about a canning factory? By finally allowing Bert and Ernie to get it on? By finding a backstreet doctor who'll prescribe Elmo the Ritalin he so sorely needs? No – instead Michelle Obama will be stopping by the street to teach some children how to grow a cucumber.

This is because – aside from the education and the puppets and the funky counting song with the pinball »

Check This Out: Sequels That Bombed Box Office Graphic

6 October 2009 5:59 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

I love the graphics that MovieFill makes. We've featured plenty of them before (the $400 Million Club one most recently) and now they've got another one that I've got to share! It's called simply Sequels That Bombed and is inspired by the overwhelming success of The Final Destination, as they say it should've failed miserably (and didn't). So instead, they chart the biggest sequel bombs from 1982 to 2009. "Most of the films we included made under $35 million. A few (Blair Witch 2, Analyze That), made over $35 but were still considered bombs because of the significant drop in sales from their predecessor. Bombs away!" Some of the movies on here just deserved to die a miserable box office death, but others are a bit shocking. Some of the big ones that I am still surprised by are: Jason X, Analyze That, The Whole Ten Yards, etc. The funny thing »

New Trailer: Dwayne Johnson in ‘The Tooth Fairy’

5 October 2009 8:15 AM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has had quite an interesting career in a pretty short amount of time. He’s covered just about all of the prerequisites that his Action Movie forefathers set for him: Sci-Fi franchise, art-house picture, buddy movie, and family film. Those accolades took stars like Schwartzenegger and Stallone 15 years to accomplish, and Johnson has managed to do them in 5. He’s now coming off of the success of Race to Witch Mountain and The Game Plan for another family-friendly film in The Tooth Fairy.

In the film, Johnson plays tough guy Derek Thompson, known to his friends as “The Tooth Fairy” due to his aggressive sportsmanship on the hockey rink. Thompson is kind of an S.O.B. to fans, friends, and even his kid, until things get turned around and he is sentenced to serve as an actual tooth fairy.

Harold Ramis Offers Something New in 'Ghostbusters 3'

1 October 2009 12:13 AM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

With his return as Dr. Egon Spengler being confirmed earlier, Harold Ramis made time to address several details concerning "Ghostbusters 3". During the promotional effort for the upcoming release of "Year One" DVD, the 64-year-old actor/filmmaker talked with MovieWeb about his vision on his character and the aim of developing a third "Ghostbusters" movie.

Asked about the life of Egon in 2012, he responded, "I had two initial first instincts. One was that Egon had become a shaved head Buddhist monk. That is not going to happen." He then added, "The thing that I pitched for my character is that he's been living in Geneva, and he works for the Institute of Imaginary Science."

As for the aim for this movie, he stated, "I think we are just going to try and make a good movie. The intention of a sequel is not to give an audience more of what they »

Before ‘Brüno,’ There Was Ali G: Five Great Interviews From The Main Man

10 July 2009 8:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

You already know Borat. You’re about to know Brüno. Some of us already know Brüno, perhaps a little too well in Eminem’s case. Did you know that there’s another famous Sacha Baron Cohen character lurking in the depths of pop culture’s murky waters? In his own words, I be talkin’ ’bout me main man, Ali G.

As portrayed by Cohen, the British “journalist” called Ali G is a lewd, disrespectful and typically unintelligent personality, showing up for interviews in his trademark attire: baggy clothes, skull cap, yellow sunglasses and various rings and chains. Still, the Cohen character managed to land one-on-ones with several high profile personalities in the entertainment industry, politics and other areas of life.

After some of those tense encounters, it’s truly no surprise that Cohen has had to retire the Ali G persona for good. Luckily, these moments live eternally in our »

This Year One Review Doesn’t Bode Well For Ghostbusters 3

21 June 2009 8:33 AM, PDT | Filmonic.com | See recent Filmonic news »

Year One is the newest movie directed by Harold Ramis, who comedy lovers (and, hell, just about anyone) probably know as the director of Caddyshack, Groundhog Day, Multiplicity, Bedazzled, Analyze That and under-watched character film, The Ice Harvest. Ramis isn’t too shabby at coming up with compelling comedy scripts either, with writing credits on Animal [...] »

Harold Ramis Interview: A Lifetime of Achievements With a Chicago Look at ‘Year One’

19 June 2009 3:21 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Kicking off the Chicago-based “TBS Presents A ‘Very Funny’ Festival: Just for Laughs” on June 17, 2009, Harold Ramis presented his film “Year One” at the Music Box Theatre. Starring Jack Black (“High Fidelity”) and Michael Cera (“Juno”), “Year One” touts itself as a comedy of the ages – the dark ages – as it follows Zed (Black) and Oh (Cera) on their accidentally religious quest.

At the opening, “Just for Laughs” presented its first-ever lifetime achievement award to the humble and well-deserving Ramis in honor of the awe-inspiring career of this actor, writer, director and producer. A Chicago-native Ramis said: “It’s so nice that this is happening at home.”

Review: Year One

19 June 2009 7:02 AM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Harold Ramis has worked in comedy a long time, and his career has taken many directions. With his work on the Ghostbusters (1984) script and his straight-man performance in the film, he managed to allow Bill Murray room to move and riff within the confines of a visual effects-heavy summer blockbuster. As for the meticulously crafted classic Groundhog Day (1993), I hesitate to call any movie "perfect," but it comes close. But then there were phoned-in hits like Analyze This (1999) and Analyze That (2002) that seemed too tightly wound and too slavishly dependent on plot to be very funny.

Ramis' new film Year One, on the other hand, comes closer to the spirit of his directorial debut Caddyshack (1980). I'm not saying it's quite as funny or as brilliant, but it's in the same spirit. It cares thankfully little about its plot or its character arcs, or historical accuracy; it's a bit flabby and careless, »

Year One Trimmed for PG-13 Rating

10 April 2009 7:02 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Jack Black's latest comedy, The Year One, was just too raunchy for the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) as originally cut. After receiving a hard "R" rating, producer Judd Apatow (Pineapple Express) and director Harold Ramis (Analyze That) appeared before the MPAA appeals board to request that the film be granted a more lenient "PG-13" rating.

Apparently, the MPAA was not moved by their pitch, because it refused to change the initial ruling. After the filmmakers made several cuts to the film, the MPAA has now revised the rating for the film, which will be released with a "PG-13" rating.

Danny Devito Set to Direct a Crazy Eddie Biopic

11 March 2009 11:20 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Believe it or not, there really was a real life salesman named Crazy Eddie. And interesting enough, Danny DeVito is set to direct a biopic about his life. Known as Eddie Antar, he became a pioneer in discount consumer electronics in the Northeastern United States in the 1970s, eventually expanding to 43 stores. However, Eddie had been skimming money and falsifying inventory to inflate stock value. He lost his company in a hostile takeover, then was charged by the SEC for stock fraud in 1987. He fled to Israel, was later extradited, and ultimately served a prison sentence until 1999 and was ordered to pay $150 million. Antar's real life story is already exciting enough that they won't have to tweak much to make it work for the big screen. Writing the screenplay is Peter Steinfeld, of Drowning Mona, Analyze That, Be Cool, and 21 most recently. DeVito has directed a »

Danny DeVito Back Behind the Camera

10 March 2009 9:56 PM, PDT | TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news »

Danny DeVito is prepping a return to the director’s chair. The actor, who last helmed the 2003 Ben Stiller and Drew Barrymore comedy Duplex, has signed on to produce and direct Crazy Eddie, a film based on the life of consumer electronics king Eddie Antar. Peter Steinfeld (21, Analyze That) is on board to write the screenplay, about the man who launched the successful Crazy Eddie chain in 1971 but wound up serving six years in prison for fraud. Antar was a pioneer in discount consumer electronics, and Crazy Eddie's grew to 43 stores, fueled by TV ads in which a frenzied pitchman promised prices that were "In-sa-a-a-a-a-ane!" Antar took the company public and briefly became a Wall Street sensation. He'd been skimming money and falsifying inventory to inflate stock value. Losing control of his company in a hostile takeover, Antar went on the lam after the new owners uncovered his financial shenanigans »

Poster Alert! De Niro Times Six

15 February 2009 7:50 PM, PST | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

After the success Tim Doyle had with his Bill Murray print from a few weeks ago he’s back with another iconic actor in six of his most memorable roles. This time it’s Robert De Niro, a virtual powerhouse of an actor who has basically fallen in to self mockery and phoning in some quality ham for the last few years. But with this print I think Tim wants to remember him from the movies that made us fall in love with the guy to begin with, Godfather 2, Taxi Driver, Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, The Untouchables, Jackie Brown and less of Analyze That and Righteous Kill, though a picture of him from The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle in full Nazi regalia would have been sweet.

This follows the same route as the Murray print in size, 6x36, 4 color and comes in two versions, one regular and a blue glow in the dark limited variant. »

Slap Shot Remake Gets a Director

2 February 2009 9:33 PM, PST | TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news »

Universal’s previously announced remake of the 70s comedy classic Slap Shot now has a director - Dean Parisot, who last helmed the Jim Carrey comedy Fun with Dick and Jane, will be the one bringing it to the screen. The original starred Paul Newman as the fading player/coach of a minor league hockey team. Trying to hype the Charlestown Chiefs for a possible move South, the coach ramps up interest by turning his team into a group of brawling thugs, know as the Hanson brothers – played by David Hanson, Steve Carlson and Jeff Carlson. Peter Steinfeld, whose credits include Drowning Mona, Analyze That, Be Cool and 21, is writing the screenplay. Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce. The film has also spawned two direct-to-disc sequels. One in 2002, Slap Shot 2: Breaking the Ice, which starred Stephen Baldwin and Gary Busey, and last year, Slap Shot 3: The Junior League, »
