I'm no purist, but it really takes me out of a film to hear the Narnia kids saying 'Sorted!' or Alice in Wonderland using terms like 'bonkers'
Much as I wanted to enjoy Super 8, I kept getting distracted by anachronisms. The film is set, specifically, in a small Ohio town in the summer of 1979, yet one of the kids compares an alien building block to a Rubik's Cube, which didn't go on sale till 1980. (I'd already checked the date when writing about Let the Right One In.) The gas station attendant must have been going out with someone whose uncle worked at Sony, because he has a Walkman, yet I didn't even glimpse Walkmans till late 1979 – and I was living in Tokyo at the time.
Most distracting of all, the kids in Jj Abrams's film are making a zombie movie. But why? They might conceivably have caught...

Lee Hyeon-seung hasn't been doing a whole lot of directing recently, having only been behind the camera for one since 2000's romantic drama Il Mare, but he's back on the scene in a big way with the upcoming thriller Blue Salt (aka Hindsight) and we've got the trailer for you. The film stars one of our favorites, Song Kang-ho (The Host, Sympathy For Mr Vengeance) alongside a number of veteran actors including Sin Se-kyeong, who you may remember from the K-horror Cinderella a few years back, Cheon Jeong-myeon (Hansel & Gretel), Kim Min-joon (No Mercy For The Rude) and Lee Jong-hyuk (Attack The Gas Station, A Dirty Carnival).

In the film canon from the great John Carpenter, it always seems like Christine gets the short end of the stick and is an afterthought. I believe part of the problem was the overkill of Stephen King films being released at the time, as well as the fact that Carpenter relied on suspense and not gore and violence like in his previous movie - The Thing. What stands out about Christine is the fine acting from the young cast, and a highlight is Malcolm Danare, who played bully “Moochie” Welch.
Jason Bene: John Carpenter was on a roll heading in to adapting the film version of Christine. How did you hitch a ride on this tale of terror?
Malcolm Danare: I went in and met Carpenter privately. Right off the bat we got along. He asked if I would come back the next day and be mixed and matched with three other bad guys…...

If you’ve seen An Education then you already know how excellent it is. The film premiered at Sundance this year and was met with wonderful reviews. It’s a coming of age tale about a girl trying to figure out what to do with her life and her education. While that may sound like a movie you’ve already seen before, it isn’t. It fully deserves its acclaim and it also features one of the year’s best performances from Carrey Mulligan. The film is currently in limited theaters and will be expanding this weekend. With all that said, here’s what the film’s director Lone Scherfig had to say.
Warning: This interview contains heavy spoilers.
How’s this day been for you? Do you like doing all these interviews?
Lone Scherfig: Yes, because I haven’t done much of it yet. Its fine… It would...

If the mom-and-pop gas station is dead, Wilco is its funereal knell. The I-75 WilcoHess service plaza of Jackson, Ga. (renamed after the longtime rivals set aside their creative differences and formed a diesel-pumping supergroup), postures itself as an erudite foil to the glossy, prefab, overproduced fueling stations that dot the highways and byways of this nation. My recent stop at this Wilco station exposed the true nature of this façade. Wilco (The Gas Station) runs on a series of clumsily executed pop-philosophy clichés that reflect the sensibilities of a once-great truck-stop empire in its twilight, struggling for relevance in a world it no longer understands.
