It has been said in the past that if there was a hypothetical CD that Kylie Minogue would be the A-side and her younger sister, Dannii, would be the B-side.
A fictitious sisterly rivalry created by the tabloids in the early 1990s saw Kylie and Dannii pitted against each other in terms of looks, style, music and career progression – that often saw the former come out on top.
But in 2013, with both sisters vehemently denying any envy or jealousy of each others personal or professional lives, I’m having a look at how the popularity gap has narrowed tremendously between the two Minogue sisters.
Dannii’s Looks
At the beginnings of Dannii Minogue’s career, she was Australia’s sweetheart. Appearing on Young Talent Time as a permanent cast member, she captured the hearts of millions of viewers a week and became one of the most sought after talents in the nation.

Stephanie McIntosh and Rob Mills have ended their relationship. The former Neighbours actress, who got together with long-term friend and Young Talent Time host Mills last year, reportedly broke up with him after experiencing a recent health scare. McIntosh told Woman's Day magazine that she and Mills had a "bit of fun for a few months", adding that he is "someone [she's] known for a very long time". She also said that she has "great memories" of their romance, even joking: "I'd even like to think I played a very small role in helping Rob get over [ex-girlfriend] Paris Hilton!" Young Talent Time is believed to be facing the axe after only one series. The Channel Ten children's talent show, which was revived earlier this year after being cancelled in 1988, was recently moved from its primetime Sunday slot to a Friday night airing time. According to The Daily Telegraph, Young Talent Time's viewer ratings have dwindled from 1.1 million down to 600,000 over the past two months. A Ten spokesperson said yesterday that the network is confident that the series will "settle in" to its new "family friendly" Friday slot. Ten's chief programming officer David Mott recently said of the day change: "We've built Friday nights (more)...

Young Talent Time has been pulled from its primetime Sunday night timeslot on Channel Ten. The Australian reality television show, which was relaunched last year with Rob Mills as host, will move to a Friday 7pm timeslot from March 30, while weight loss show The Biggest Loser will now air on Sunday nights in its place. Ten's chief programming officer David Mott told the Herald Sun: "As we move through the year we will continue to reinvigorate our Super Sunday line-up and our move this weekend of The Biggest Loser to Sundays at 6.30pm is perfect timing as the competition really takes hold. Ten has switched Young Talent Time out of its “Super Sunday” schedule after weeks of disappointing ratings. The show will now air on Friday evenings in what the network says is a reinforcement of its strategy to turn Fridays into a family friendly timeslot.
The return of Ytt initially rated well for Ten, with the first three weeks metro rating above 1m, but as Seven and Nine’s programming became more competitive, the talent show faded to below 700,000. On Sunday it rated a slightly improved 689,000, mainly helped by the audience run in from the Australian grand prix.
Last night Ten announced the move, which sees Ytt replaced by the Biggest Loser, as a “reinvigoration” of its Super Sunday scheduling.
Sunday will also see the season finale of Us drama Homeland run as a double length episode on Ten.

The Australian Grand Prix did well in the ratings yesterday, pulling in an average of 1.399m for Ten from noon to 6.45pm on Sunday.
But the night belonged to Seven, the My Kitchen Rules juggernaut winning pole position with 1.710m for the hour-long show that started at 7.30pm.
It won its time slot beating 60 Minutes on Nine, which rated by 1.187m, Modern Family on Ten (940,000) and Great Expectations on ABC1 (699,000), according to preliminary numbers from OzTam.
Ten’s New Girl recovered from last week’s tumble, up from 783,000 to 891,000, in a good night for the network in the 16-30 and 18-49 demographics. Four of the top six shows in the key advertising demos were Ten’s – the Grand Prix, Modern Family, New Girl and Homeland.
Nine’s The Great Barrier Reef fell just below the 1m mark after a promising showing last week, beaten in the 6.30pm time slot by Sunday Night on Seven.

Ten’s dreadful start to the ratings week continued on Monday with the network trailling throughout the night with not a single show above 1m.
The poor performance comes after Ten’s Super Sunday also saw significant falls without a single show delivering more than 900,000.
According to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam, Ten’s only decent performer on Monday was The Biggest Loser which rated 942,000 – the best for the series to date. Ten then declined to 652,000 for Bondi Rescue and 525,000 for NCIS Los Angeles. At 9.30pm Hawaii Five-0 delivered a dreadful 353,000. It was even thrashed by ABC1′s Media Watch which rated 750,000 and Q&A which rated 659,000.
Even in Ten’s heartland younger demographics, Hawaii Five-0 bombed – 23rd for the night in 16-39. Media Watch was 22nd and Q&A 24th.
Monday night’s viewing was dominated by Seven with My Kitchen Rules rating 1.921m and Revenge 1.715m.

It was another dreary Sunday for Ten, with the first Sunday airing of Seven’s My Kitchen Rules putting a sizeable dent in the ratings of Ten’s top shows.
Although Ten’s New Girl and Modern Family both made the top five in the 16-39 demographics, an hour-long episode of Mkr in their time-slot hastened the decline of new comedy New Girl, which was down from 1.075m viewers last week to 783,000, according to preliminary reports from OzTam.
Modern Family fell from 1.079m last week to 872,000 last night.
Ten’s spy thriller Homeland, a first episode of which aired when Mkr had just finished at 8.30pm, was also down, from 901,000 to 810,000. A second episode drew 702,000.
Nine went well with Great Barrier Reef, which combined BBC footage with the narration of Karl Stefanovic to get ratings past the million mark. The show, on at 6.30pm, put a stop to the ratings...

What would the world be like if the Nicole Kidman we know today was the same as Nicole Kidman that existed as a teen in 1983? For starters, more A-listers would probably be tooling around Hollywood on their totally sweet dirt bikes. In celebration of the Blu-ray release of Nicole Kidman’s first movie BMX Bandits, here’s an interview of a 16-year-old Kidman on Young Talent Time. We cannot get over how different little Aussie Nicole looks. Yeah, sure Kidman has already admitted to using Botox, but we didn’t know she also had major cosmetic surgery on her hair. If Nicole had keep that Muppet do, sheep dog look-a-likes would be roaming the red carpets today. Pauly Shore might never have faded from the public eye. Our entire society would be upside down!

Everyone's got to start somewhere. Even superstar Oscar winners.
Before she was an acclaimed actress and director, Nicole Kidman was a 16-year old in Australia making her film debut. She starred in 1983's "BMX Bandits," about a bunch of kids on their bikes getting chased by baddies.
Talking to EW, the film's director, Brian Trenchard-Smith, said:
When she came in, I could tell right away that she had great dramatic instincts. Some people are born actors. They have a grasp on how to make a line of dialogue believable. But they did want me to cast her because she was taller than the two boys in the film. I said, 'Are you crazy!' She had legs up to her armpits and a big shock of red hair and a gorgeous face. The camera loved her. She was It as far as I was concerned. She has screen chemistry and not every actor has that.

Let’s face it, nobody wants to be reminded of what they looked and sounded like at 16. Even the most beautiful and talented grown-ups do their best to sweep evidence of their awkward teen years under the rug. Unfortunately, when you’re a famous actress with a list of movie credits that stretches back to puberty, keeping your past on the down-low isn’t easy. Kylie Minogue has admitted that it wasn’t always easy when her career overshadowed her sister’s but added that she is delighted that Dannii is so successful now.
As the sisters grew up, Dannii was the first to find fame on Australian kids TV show Young Talent Time, she later moved to Home and Away, before commencing her career as a pop singer in the early 1990s. However in 1986, Kylie landed a role on the popular Aussie soap ‘Neighbours’ and later a recording contract with hitmakers Stock, Aitken and Waterman. From that point on, it seemed that Dannii existed in the shadow of her successful sister.
In an interview with X Factor magazine, Kylie admitted that she often felt guilty at the constant comparisons drawn between her and her younger sister. She said:
“It could be [difficult]. I would feel quite guilty sometimes although there was no reason to feel that.
