When you think of Quentin Tarantino, classic films like “Reservoir Dogs,” “Pulp Fiction,” and “Django Unchained” certainly come to mind. But what about the critically reviled “Saturday Night Live” sketch adaptation “It’s Pat”? Or the Michael Bay Alcatraz action movie “The Rock”? Tarantino’s fingerprints have been all over the movies ever since his breakout debut in 1992, and some of his projects are way more bizarre than others.

Bruce Campbell is the greatest b-movie actor of all time.
Think about it: can you name another indie actor with a CV like his? He has been a regular in some of the lowest-rated television series of the past 20 years. He played “Soap Opera Actor On TV” in the Coen brothers’ Fargo. He stole the show as the voice of Captain Shuggazoom in Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! He starred in a series of Old Spice adverts in which he performed a spoken word version of Duran Duran’s Hungry Like The Wolf. He even appeared as the Surgeon General Of Beverley Hills in John Carpenter’s epic Escape From… Erm… L.A.
For some reason though, Bruce has never really caught the breaks that his acting ability, comic timing and giant chin should have generated. He remains relatively unknown beyond his solid cult audience, despite...

The flavor of bile is unmistakable. There just isn’t anything that tastes quite like it. And you know it when it comes on: The belly rumbles, the esophagus lurches within, and you battle back the slimy liquid that threatens to spew forth from your lips.
It’s a nasty experience. We all hate that sensation so we’re taking measures at Dread Central to help prevent such a situation from occurring.
See, there are horror sequels out there that are so horrifically bad they somehow trigger something in our internal systems... and the belly begins to rumble. We wish you no stomach troubles here, and we certainly wish the taste of bile on no man or woman. So we’re going to provide you with a list of sequels to avoid at all costs because if you check these out, you’ll be searching for the toothbrush in no time!

With production already underway on the From Dusk Till Dawn Television Series down in Austin TX. it appears as if the casting is still being finalized as today brought the news that Robert Patrick will be returning to the franchise. Robert of course starred in From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money and will be playing the role played by Harvey Keitel in the original film.

Spanish-language network Univision have announced that they intend to bring From Dusk Till Dawn back…as a TV show. The network, which is aimed primarily at Latin Americans, have teamed up with Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey Network to revive the vampire romp.
This won’t be the first spin-off for Rodriguez’s cons-on-the-run caper. The original 1996 film, scripted by Quentin Tarantino, spawned two straight-to-video sequels. From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money and From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter were mediocre successes critically and financially.
Little else was revealed about the direction the series might take or who is being circled to star. The original film starred George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, Quentin Tarantino and Juliette Lewis. Desperate to get over the border into Mexico, Clooney and Tarantino’s criminal brothers, Seth and Richard Gecko, hijack and hide in Keitel’s family Rv. Once over the border,...

No horror fan is excited to hear that the next installment of their favorite franchise is going to be a direct-to-video release. Most of these films are cheap cash-ins that lack any kind of plot, talented actors, or an experienced director. When it was revealed that Hostel: Part III would be a direct-to-video effort, fans were understandably skeptical, but this film attempts to break mold and succeeds on multiple levels.
To mix things up from the first two films, Hostel: Part III moves the Elite Hunting Club to Las Vegas and why not? Out of all the cities United States, Las Vegas is arguably the best place to set up shop. There are plenty of tourists to kidnap, bored millionaires who need new ways to spend their money, and plenty of open land to hide your establishment.

Four years after Hostel: Part II, the franchise that helped to define the torture porn sub-genre returns with direct-to-video Hostel: Part III, hitting stores December 27th, 2011. For anyone sick of that sweet Christmas cheer, the latest Hostel promises some stomach-turning bloodshed to help you get back to the dark side. Series creator and director of the first two films, Eli Roth, is uninvolved with the latest entry, helmed by longtime Sam Raimi cohort Scott Spiegel (From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money). The locale also shifts from Slovakia to Sin City, though producers probably should have given some consideration to setting the film right where it was being shot, in an economically devastated...

Hostel: Part III will be released on DVD next week and I recently had the opportunity to speak with director Scott Spiegel about the film. For those unfamiliar with Scott’s work, he’s no stranger to horror or the Hostel franchise. He served as producer on both Hostel and Hostel: Part II, was co-writer of Evil Dead 2 and has directed Intruder and From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money.
Scott and I talked about moving the Elite Hunting Club to Las Vegas, Eli Roth’s earlier idea for a new Hostel film, my favorite death scene from the movie, and the possibility of Hostel: Part IV.
**Spoiler Warning- While the interview is mostly spoiler-free, the interview does discuss death scenes and minor plot items**
Was the idea for Hostel: Part III something you pitched to Sony or did they approach you?
Scott Spiegel: They came to me.

It was back on Friday, September 17, 2010, that I flew to Detroit, Michigan, for a set visit of director Scott Spiegel’s then-filming Hostel Part III (which releases direct-to-dvd via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on December 27th). As my flight descended toward Detroit Metro and I looked through the plane’s windows at the city below, the metropolis seemed a sadly appropriate location to film the third installment in the historically bleak Hostel series.
The gray skies and dormant smokestacks and brick buildings set beneath it effortlessly communicated the economically ravaged Slovakia in which the preceding films took place, and as I would find, my set visit would touch me deeply, more for the ravaged state of this once great American city than the blood the filmmaker would spill in it, however.
With Michigan then offering a 42% tax rebate (higher at the time than any other state’s film incentive program,...

Writers: Michael D. Weiss and Eli Roth.
Hostel: Part III is the latest in a franchise that was labelled "torture porn," by one reviewer. There is less torture in this second sequel and more prostitutes, double-dealings and betting on murder instead. To release on DVD December 27th, Hostel: Part III is a fun time spent in Las Vegas with four friends out to have fun. Well, one friend is out for murder, but three out of four searching for good times is not bad. A tense thriller, this latest picture will satisfy most horror fans while those searching for "torture porn" will be left saying: "where is the bloody beef?"

There is something to be said about the Hostel series in reference to how and when it came out. Before Hostel, there was nothing quite like it in theaters. Sure, there was Saw a year earlier, but it was not the sex comedy of horror films that Hostel encompassed. Eli Roth has a particular style when it comes to directing. He creates these almost light hearted college films that, at some point derail into the land of insanity. I am not a huge Roth fan, but I appreciate what he has done and continues to do, and that is to make entertaining horror films. There didn’t seem to be a need for a sequel to the original Hostel, but Roth kept a storyline together and did alright in that respect. He didn’t want anything to do with the third installment (except maybe grab a check) and so his friend,...

Director Eli Roth's 'Hostel' was one of the early films after the original 'Saw' that helped to define a horror sub genre that critics would scornfully dub "torture porn." The film and its sequel both featured Americans taking refuge at foreign hostels and coming across unsavory characters who want nothing more than to pull their fingernails off. Because of the name recognition, a third straight-to-video 'Hostel' is on its way. Roth is not involved, not even as producer, and the setting of Las Vegas doesn't look to fall in line with the theme of predators using hostels as their hunting ground. Here's the official synopsis: "High stakes gambling takes on a sinister new meaning in this third chapter of the terrifying Hostel series. December 27th will see the DVD and Digital release of Hostel 3 through Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Eli Roth is no longer at the helm, instead Scott Spiegel has moved up from his Executive Producer status on the first two movies to take the director’s chair on this second sequel. If you’ve seen his 1989 movie Intruder, which is set for a Blu-ray release also in December and we covered here, then you will know that he is not a man to shy away from spreading a little claret across the screen. The action has also been moved away from Eastern Europe and dropped into the glitz that is Las Vegas. So just remember boys and girls that whatever happens in Vegas is bound to be very, very painful.

I've never been a big fan of the Hostel films, but I know there are a lot of people that love watching people being brutally tortured. Just so you know Hostel creator Eli Roth had nothing to do with this third film. Hostel III was directed by Scott Spiegel from a screenplay by Michael D. Weiss. I don't think I'll be watching the movie, I'm not feeling lucky with it.

Hostel was one of the more successful indie horror flicks to come out of the 2000s, and although the so-called "torture porn" trend has mostly been put to rest, Eli Roth remains a pretty big name in the horror world. However, his follow-up film Hostel: Part II did not fare nearly as well, and he has yet to direct another movie despite having a number of projects in development. Still, with or without him, the Hostel franchise lives on. Hostel: Part III is nearly upon us, and even though it's a direct-to-dvd release without Roth's involvement, I'm at least moderately interested in it. Hostel: Part III takes place in Las Vegas where a group of friends at a bachelor party are lured to a private function where a "perverse game of torture" is taking place. I'm not sure that the title "Hostel" really makes sense anymore, but I suppose this...

Some Like It Hot I haven't seen this Blu-ray, but Blu-ray.com seems to think it looks pretty good. The features, however, are nothing new so it's a toss-up as to whether those of you that already own it should upgrade. Personally I think this is a good film, but I've only seen it twice and was never bowled over. Blue Valentine This is certainly not a film I would ever buy. As you can tell from reading my Cannes review from last year, I didn't dig this film the same as everyone else. The film itself I found to be a bit sloppy, even if it had a pair of excellent performances. But beyond that, I wouldn't buy it simply because it's too much of a downer. It's one of those Sundance Film Festival-esque films that excels at lower-to-middle class suffering,...

From Dusk Till Dawn 2 My favorite film of all time is "From Dusk Till Dawn". I must have watched that movie a hundred times when I was a kid. To this day, I probably still watch that movie at least three times a year. It has everything you could ask for in a film. It's got action, comedy, George Clooney playing the coolest badass of all time - Seth Gecko - and naked vampire women trying to kill everyone. The dialogue in that 1996 film is priceless. In 1999, I was fifteen years old, browsing my local video store when I stumbled across the holy grail. I saw a sequel to my favorite film on the shelf in front of me. It was a film upon first viewing I hated, but, oddly enough, I like it.

With the announcement of Echo Bridge Entertainment bringing Dimension flicks to Blu-ray, we knew that there would be a parade of sequels headed our way. The only question was when. Now we know.
According to Blu-ray.com on May 10th Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest, Dracula 2000, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers and Hellraiser: Bloodline will be making their high definition debut.
Then, a couple of days later on May 15th, Echo Bridge will be dropping a bunch of double feature Blu-rays on us in the forms of Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror/Children of the Corn 666: Isacc's Return, From Dusk Till Dawn/From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers/Halloween: H20 and Hellraiser: Bloodline/Hellraiser: Inferno.
It's a pretty safe bet that either the packages will be bare bones or extras from the DVD's will port over.

Looks like production on Hostel 3 is moving along and to prove it we have the first bit of casting news today. According to Variety, Kip Pardue (The Wizard of Gore) has landed the lead role in Hostel 3. The story revolves around Pardue's character who 'attends his best friend's bachelor party with an insidious agenda that plays into the human hunt'. Hostel 3 will be directed by Scott Spiegel (Intruder, From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money) and produced by Eli Roth, Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss. Bloody Disgusting adds that Brian Hallisay (Eastwick, Bones) and Sarah Habel (Party Down, The Butterfly Effect 3) will also star.

It looks like Hostel: Part 3 is moving right along. Variety says Kip Pardue has snared the lead role. The actor has starred in The Rules of Attraction , Wizard of Gore and Stag Night , which has not been released in the States. In the third Hostel , Pardue plays a character who attends a friend's bachelor party in Las Vegas unaware that Elite Hunting is involved in the event. Scott Spiegel penned the script and will direct. His last released effort, From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money , hit DVD in 1999.

Here's the thing.
I kind of hate Eli Roth. I thought his character was fun in Inglourious Basterds, but I think he's a shit director. Really, really just talentless and lacking vision without a real grasp of how to effectively use actors, and how to develop a plot that doesn't revolve around gore. But that's just me. I hated Hostel, not because it was gross and excessive (though it was), but simply because it just it's a shitty movie. As for Cabin Fever, the less said, the better.
All of this is my way of saying that the good news is that Eli Roth is not going to be involved in Hostel 3.
The bad news is that, well, they're making a Hostel 3. This time around it's being directed by Scott Spiegel (From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money), based on the screenplay by Michael Weiss (Journey to the Center of the Earth,...

Stage 6 Films is gearing up for an August shoot for Hostel: Part III. Stage 6 is the direct to dvd division of Sony Home Entertainment, is responsible for such home video releases as Zombie Strippers!, Starship Troopers 3: Marauder, Boogeyman 3, Vacancy 2: The First Cut, The Grudge 3, Messengers 2: The Scarecrow, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day and 30 Days of Night: Dark Days. Scott Spiegel (From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money) will be directing from a screenplay by Michael Weiss (The Butterfly Effect 2). Bloody Disgusting is reporting that the sequel will take the horror franchise to Las Vegas, "where a bachelor party goes horribly wrong." Sounds like a horrible idea (and this is coming from a guy who actually liked the second film in the series). The following comes from an unconfirmed tipster on the IMDb forums: It seems like it's going to ...

After the Academy’s attempt at honoring genre during the live show, we saw a real tribute to horror by someone who is truly one of our own. Bob Murawski thanked Sam Raimi for giving him his “first cutting job” in Army of Darkness. His Best Editing award for Hurt Locker was shared by his partner Chris Innis, whom he met on the Raimi produced TV show “American Gothic.”
I gotta say, never since Peter Jackson’s (who was nominated this year for District 9) thank you to the crew of Meet the Feebles has there been such an excellent genre shout out.
On top of working with Raimi for over a decade, Murawski also runs Grindhouse Releasing, which distributes and restores cult and horror films with a focus on extreme Italian cinema. Pieces, The Beyond, Cannibal Holocaust, and I Drink Your Blood are just a few names you’ll find in Grindhouse Releasing's catalogue.

It’s that time of year again, kids. Dread Central’s 2010 Horror at the Oscars coverage. Horror was indeed present this year and in black-tie. While Roger Corman and Lauren Bacall were honored a few months back at the Governor’s Award Ceremony, it was an unexpected delight to see Corman, recipient of the lifetime achievement Oscar, enjoy a standing ovation on national television.
I was, however, very disappointed that neither of them were allowed to speak. Roger Corman’s contributions to modern cinema are too vast for him to just stand up and wave. James Cameron was one of many Corman acolytes present, and his nomination speaks to Corman’s tremendous legacy. On the Terminator DVD Cameron mentions, "I trained at the Roger Corman Film School.” Jonathan Demme, Martin Scorsese, and Francis Ford Coppola, among many others, were also former students.
The terror continued with a spoof of Paranormal Activity...
