Armored Review

Short Version: The good news is: If you like to walk in, sit down and enjoy an action film, then Armored is for you. The bad news is: If you’ve seen the trailer, then you can walk in 45 minutes late and not miss a thing.
Screen Rant’s Paul Young reviews Armored
Every once in a while a movie comes out of nowhere that totally catches me by surprise. Black Dog, Hard Rain and Deep Rising are still three of my favorite mid-budget action flicks that got very little advertising or respect but managed to be very enjoyable in the theaters. All three also made into my DVD library – and now Armored will join them on my shelf.
There are some minor spoilers in the following review.
Nimrod Antal, the guy directing Predators, has done a very good job of making Armored fun and interesting without blowing it way over-the-top.

Given man's unwavering fascination with woman, it's no surprise that the female star acts as the anchor to a dominant portion of horror pictures. I mean really, who wants to see a bare chested man tearin ass through the woods screaming at the top of his lungs while a bladed assailant nips at his heels? I don't - I know that much, although I'm certain there are plenty of men who would disagree (and that's okay with me, to each his own!). The simple fact remains however, women bring a unique appeal and certain sensual atmosphere to film that no man ever could. And it's not all about gratuitous T&A.
There's a comforting quality in the hands of the heroine; a fascinating maternal strength that, as a man I cannot genuinely relate to. I can however admire, and in many cases it's nearly impossible to not admire the lone

Sr Pick: Our Favorite Guilty Pleasure Movies

After my Cult Movies article got people talking and listing their favorite cult picks, I decided it was time for us at Screen Rant to confess to our favorite (and likely embarrassing) “Guilty Pleasure” movies. Before I get to the list, I wanted to first talk about what a “Guilty Pleasure Movie” is.
A Guilty Pleasure, according to Wikipedia, “is something one considers pleasurable despite feeling guilt for enjoying it. Often, the “guilt” involved is simply fear of others discovering one’s lowbrow or otherwise embarrassing tastes, rather than actual moral guilt. Fashion, music, and food can be examples of guilty pleasures.”
Those are easy-to-list guilty pleasures, along with TV shows (any reality show on VH1, really). However, I’m looking for the Movies we all hate to admit we love. To give you an example, Titanic was listed number one by Sr owner and editor-in-chief Vic Holtreman. Why is it a guilty pleasure movie?

This past weekend, the hopes and dreams of 80s action figure fanboys came to life with the release of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Stephen Sommers’ adaptation of the Hasbro toy line, animated TV show, and comic book series. Provided, of course, fanboys dream in bad CGI and half-formed sentences. The film follows a team of international super soldiers tasked to protect the world from a rogue weapons designer who lives in the Little Mermaid’s castle and probably hates chocolate and puppies. Tonight, Sound on Sight takes a look at the adventures of Hawk, Duke, the Baroness and Destro, as well as reviewing two of Sommers’ earlier films, 1999’s smash hit The Mummy, and the previous years’ B-movie creature feature Deep Rising.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Review

G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra is a lad’s fantasy, the high-tech, big budget cinematic equivalent of blowing up G.I. Joe dolls with M-80s in the backyard. And perhaps that’s as it should be. Since Paramount declined to screen the movie for the press ahead of time, like most critics I paid for a ticket and saw G.I. Joe with its intended audience — a bunch of guys between 20 and 35, with nothing better to do on a Friday afternoon than watch stuff go kaboom. From their enthusiastic response, I’d say that they got exactly what they paid for, and more.
Ray Park, Rachel Nichols, Said Taghmaoui: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
“The new action movie isn’t as bad as you think. It’s much, much worse… ‘G.I. Joe’ is like watching fireworks with a blindfold on: it’s deafening and you feel under attack.

3 Horror Movie Sequels That Need To Happen

I am not a huge sequel fan but every now and then a movie comes along that screams for a sequel. So this editorial is a tribute to Hollywood and the films I think they really should be doing sequels for. Forget all the lame ass remakes... give us some good quality sequels to some quality horror films. So in no particular order here are three horror movies that desperately need a sequel;
Deep Rising: I first pickep up deep rising in the $2 discount bin because the vhs cover jumped out at me. I knew nothing about the movie at all but the price was right. I have since watched this movie well ove

Apparently 'G.I. Joe' Delivers Big-Time Mindless Mayhem!

One of the bigger surprises of the late-summer movie geekery is that Stephen Sommers' G.I. Joe is getting surprisingly positive reviews! I guess it's just that late-summer action flicks are assumed to be moronic by default, but that hasn't prevented a big fistful of online movie geeks from expressing their incredulous praise for the family-friendly action flick. Our own Todd Gilchrist saw and enjoyed the flick, and we'll throw you a teaser excerpt after the jump, but he reminded me that there's nothing really like hyper-kinetic and virtually mindless action films when you're in the mood for something fun.
With that in mind, I humbly offer a few of my favorite "Mindless Mayhem Moments."
The final car chase in Doomsday. Well-cut, well-scored, and wonderfully manic.
Any car chase in Death Race.
The alley brawl in Charlie's Angels.
The alley brawl in They Live.

Love is Undying in new supernatural film

Director Steven Peros sent along some info and a bunch of exclusive photos (see them below), from The Undying, his new supernatural film from Roscommon Pictures. Peros, best known for scripting Peter Bogdanovich’s Kirsten Dunst-starrer The Cat’S Meow from his own play, also wrote Undying with producer David M. Flynn.
Robin Weigert (first photo, with Paul David Story), who nabbed an Emmy nomination for playing Calamity Jane in HBO’s acclaimed series Deadwood, stars as Dr. Barbara Houghton, who moves into a rural Pennsylvania farmhouse as she starts a job at a hospital. Still reeling from the death of her fiancé, she becomes intrigued by the story of Elijah, a Civil War soldier whose ghost supposedly haunts her new home. When Jason (Anthony Carrigan, second photo), a stabbing victim she has treated, is taken off life support, she steals his body and takes it to the farmhouse,

New International Trailer for 'G.I. Joe'

There's a new international trailer for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, with French subtitles, or if
you prefer, Freedom subtitles.
We evaluated all the summer movies earlier today to rank the best of the bunch and sadly, this didn't make the cut.
It's got a few things going for it - cool-looking stunts, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra, eye candy - but I just can't get
over Stephen
Sommers directing this. Two words: Track record. Van Helsing, Deep Rising, and the Mummy movies just doesn't cut
it.
But maybe, like Transformers, the spectacle will be enough. I do think it will suffer from comparisons to
Transformers, particularly being released just six weeks later. Here's la publicité française.

Snake Eyes Won't Talk in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Fans of the G.I. Joe already have a bones to pick with the current big screen adaptation G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra: Cobra Commander's new scuba-like mask or Destro's "nanotechnology" mask that looks like the costume director unloaded a can of silver spray paint on actor Christopher Eccleston's face, but there's one thing that fans can take solace in and that's the lack of dialogue coming from the martial arts expert Snake Eyes.
Channing Tatum (Duke) told MTV that Larry Hama, the movie's creative consultant and the writer of the G.I. Joe comic in the 1980's, laid down the law concerning Snake Eyes: I think that the first and the one thing that [Hama] said was, ‘Okay, I’ll
do this. But Snake Eyes can’t talk. No matter what, Snake Eyes can’t
talk.’ At one point they had Snake Eyes saying one line or something

We’ve been waiting for months to see the first glimpse of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra footage, and Paramount has released the Super Bowl teaser trailer ahead of the big game. We kept getting official and unofficial images, but no footage.
As you may recall, there’s been speculation for months that the first teaser would be coming, even as early as the fall. But when reports surfaced that a teaser that was tested for audiences did horribly, fans started to get nervous.
Then we got word that a teaser would premiere during the Super Bowl. And as I mentioned above, we can see it officially now! Check out the teaser after the jump.
To be honest, I’m getting pumped again for the film. Sure, Stephen Sommers can make some pretty big, loud movies (Deep Rising, the first two Mummy movies, and the awful Van Helsing

Well that didn't take too long! ComingSoon has debuted the full 30-second TV spot for G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra - which gives us our first-ever glimpse at finished footage from the upcoming G.I. Joe movie. I'll admit I'm very impressed by the look of this. Sure, it may be incredibly over-the-top, even pushing heavily into the cheesy range of things, but that's part of why this look so damn good. That's what G.I. Joe is known for (remember those cheesy cartoons?) and I expect this to just be ridiculously fun. What more could you ask for?! All of the action looks quite epic and exciting and that's what I just want to see. Enjoy!

It's rare that I write about something that will become obsolete in under 48 hours, but today I'm making a big exception. Entertainment Tonight has debuted a less-than-10-second teaser for the new G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra teaser that will be showing during the Super Bowl on Sunday (tomorrow). Normally I'd just let this slide because we're seeing the final footage so soon afterwards, but not this. Everyone needs to see this. This is one of those moments where I finally get to say "I told you so!" While this isn't much, and I need to see it clearer, this brief bit of footage definitely looks awesome. I can't wait to see more on Sunday!

I'm in a quandry over G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Because Transformers was so much fun,
I've got high hopes for it. Sort of. On the other hand, the "best" movie Stephen Sommers has directed is the
first Mummy movie, and after that, it's just garbage: Van Helsing, Mummy Dos, Deep
Rising.
So I can't say I like what he brings to the project. Sommers is talking G.I. Joe this week, telling
Entertainment Weekly that he drew some inspiration for the action in his new movie from the Connery-
era Bond films.
Lamenting how Bond has become Jason Bourne over the past couple of years - a necessary move
from the silly, if you ask me - Sommers says, "In a very contemporary way, G.I. Joe is inspired by the
memory of the kind of movies I saw when I was younger. I remember being in

Surveying the landscape of cinema, one has to wonder why man doesn't just stay the hell out of the water. "Shrinkage" from the cold temperatures aside, there's plenty to be afraid of. Who wants to take a dip when there are smart-ass sharks ( Jaws , Deep Blue Sea ), cranky mutant crustaceans ( Deep Star Six ), feisty fish ( Piranha , Finding Nemo ) and other unidentified creatures lurking in our oceans ( Leviathan , Deep Rising )? Beats us, but those suckers who choose to risk their lives at sea are repeatedly the subjects of some entertaining horror films. The latest is Hybrid , shooting this year under the direction of Ernie Barbarash ( Stir of Echoes 2 ) for Myriad Pictures and Studio 407. Not to be confused with the killer car movie of the same name , this beast

Last month Fangoria told you about Studio 407's plans to bring their mini-series Hybrid into a collected form. With the recent announcement that Myriad Pictures plans to bring the series to the silver screen as a feature-length, live-action film, Comic Screams' Mike Fish takes a detailed look at the forthcoming trade paperback (hitting retail Feb. 25th).
Hybrid – Trade Paperback
Studio 407 http://studio-407.com
Written by Peter Kwong
Art by Pablo Churin
Colors by Shiping Lee Studio
Release Date: February 25th, 2009
If calm ocean waters at night were a bit tense and alarming for you, especially after watching that hot, naked blonde get eaten by Bruce in Jaws, then they’re about to get a little more intense after reading Hybrid.
Assuming from the title alone, writer Peter Kwong and artist Pablo Churin are not shying away from the fact that this graphic novel is an amalgamation of popular horror films.
