So what can be said about Andy Dick that the paparazzi and nearly every Judge from West Virginia to Los Angeles hasn’t already said? He was once a rising star in the comedy world with lovably nerdy characters on hit TV series before his demons grabbed a hold of him and took him down an over 25 year path of endless headlines with his name often times preceding the word “arrested.” In those years, he has compiled more Mug Shots than Head Shots and went from Star on the Rise to Registered Sex Offender. Yeah, I don’t know how else to say this other than: Wtf Happened to Andy Dick?!
But as always we must begin at the beginning and the beginning began on his birthday, December 21, 1965 in Charleston, South Carolina. After graduating high school in the suburbs of Illinois, Andy would study at the famed Second City and...

Actor Peter Spellos had over 150 screen acting and vocal performance credits to his name, but genre fans are most likely to remember him as Orville Ketchum from the slasher movie Sorority House Massacre II and its companion piece Hard to Die, as well as the brief appearance he made as the character Tracy’s father in Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare. Outside of horror, he’s best known for providing the voice of Sky-Byte in 39 episodes of the animated series Transformers: Robots in Disguise. Unfortunately, we have very sad news to share today, as it has been confirmed that Spellos has passed away at age 69 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on March 1, 1954, Spellos passed away yesterday, November 19th, at the Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis. His brother, James Spellos, notified TMZ that his family is planning an online “celebration of life” gathering for his fans.

Though the confusingly named initiative “FX on Hulu” is on its way out, FX is still bringing premium television to Hulu in the meantime.
Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by FX limited series Under the Banner of Heaven. This adaptation of the non-fiction book by John Krakauer stars Andrew Garfield as a Mormon police detective whose faith is shaken when investigating a murder involving the church.
It’s not all just FX on the TV side of things for Hulu this month, however. The streamer is debuting second seasons of its series The Hardy Boys (April 6) and Woke (April 8). There isn’t much to report from Hulu’s original movies arm aside from true crime documentary Captive Audience on April 21. But that doc about one family’s 50-year journey for justice sounds like a must-watch.

From writing Beverly Hills Cop to directing Toy Soldiers and Dawn Patrol, we have a chat with writer/producer/director Daniel Petrie Jr.
Daniel Petrie Jr comes from a family with movies in its blood.
His father, Daniel Petrie Sr, directed films such as Resurrection, Cocoon: The Return and A Raisin In The Sun. His mother, Dorothea, produced movies, wrote novels and acted. And then his brother, Donald Petrie, directed Cocoon: The Return, Miss Congeniality and Grumpy Old Men.
Yet Daniel Petrie Jr is just as busy. His screenplays include Turner & Hooch and Beverly Hills Cop (for which he earned an Academy Award nomination), whilst his directorial debut was the much-loved (by us especially) Toy Soldiers.
As his new film as director, Dawn Patrol (starring Scott Eastwood) lands on DVD, he spared us some time for a chat about his career. Starting with what he's up to right now.

Showtime recently acquired the rights to the documentary feature Pauly Shore Stands Alone. It basically follows the life of an aging and struggling comedian. Pauly Shore found his 15-minutes of fame back in the 1990s with films such as Encino Man, Son in Law, In the Army Now, and Bio Dome. Since he made those movies the comedian has just been trying to get by, and this doc gives us an interesting look at him trying to climb his way back into the spotlight.
Pauly Shore Stands Alone is a true-life road documentary. The camera follows Pauly on a snowy mid-western comedy club tour, while Pauly deals with moving his ailing mother, Mitzi Shore, out of her West Hollywood mansion of 40 years.
The doc will premiere on Showtime on Thursday night, December 4th 2014.

The common phrase of "15 minutes of fame" has become increasingly less relevant as the dawn of the internet and reality television has made the window for celebrity idolatry even smaller. One such actor whose time in the spotlight came and went was Pauly Shore. After hitting it big in the 90s with comedies like Encino Man, Son-in-Law, In the Army Now and more, Shore lost all that fame and glory. But Shore is still a stand-up comic at heart, growing up around icons like Sam Kinison and sharing the fame of The Comedy Store, founded by his mother Mitzi Shore. Now a new documentary called Pauly Shore Stands Alone focuses on his comedy tour across the Midwest along with his personal struggles. Watch! Here's the first trailer for the documentary Pauly Shore Stands Alone from Deadline: On the documentary, Shore says: “A lot of these people don’t know that...

This one is a bit hard to define. We all know what a movie cameo is. A famous person who you weren’t expecting (hard to fathom in today’s spoiler world) shows up in a movie adding a bit of surprise, and spontaneity to the proceedings. Its almost always a meant to be a joke, as most people who cameo in films are usually doing it to have a little fun (or as a favor to the director). Very rarely do you see cameos that have any real barring on the story. The only example I can think of comes from the movie Sunset Blvd. That movie is positively chocked full of cameos but its not at all for fun. Each surprise appearance is strictly to provide specific character and overall narrative development.
Besides that (and maybe an example from Robert Altman’s The Player) cameos are strictly still known as a joking affair.

Before MTV became a breeding ground for fist pumpers and troublesome teen moms, it actually played music videos. And today, we're paying tribute to the people who introduced them: The MTV VJ.In honor of Pauly Shore's 45th birthday, we decided to see how all the VJs of the '80s and '90s have aged through the years.Pauly definitely looks a lot different than his days as The Weasel. Long gone is that long curly hair and his crazy Steven Tyler-esque styling. After leaving MTV, he found acting success in a string of comedies after his days on MTV -- starring in flicks like "Son-In-Law," "Bio-Dome" and "In the Army Now."After that he made a mockumentary called "Pauly Shore Is Dead" and can most recently be seen in Internet videos on Funny or Die and YouTube. He's also currently on tour doing standup. How have...

"Playing for Keeps" is not playing well for critics. And not just most critics. TheWrap's Alonso Duralde described Gerard Butler's new rom-com soccer movie as "dreadful" and even went as far as to call it an "extended penalty kick to the groin." Apparently many of his colleagues (at least 50 of them) agree because the movie has garnered a zero-percent rating on critics aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Ouch. That rating puts it in line with other not-so classic films, including "In the Army Now," "A Kid in King Arthur's Court" and "Highlander II: The Quickening." It...

The upcoming romantic comedy Playing for Keeps may not look particularly enticing, but keep in mind that it’s written by Robbie Fox, who gave us the clever script for So I Married an Axe Murderer about 20 years ago. Of course, he followed that with a story credit on the Pauly Shore vehicle In the Army Now (which was rewritten) before disappearing for two decades — I’m only aware of one spec script he sold in 1999 for a time travel-based divorce comedy titled Twice Upon a Time, which has never been produced. He’s also done some uncredited work through his career, including rewrites on My Girl, but for the most part his output is unknown and inconsistent. Still, I thought it would be fun to go back to the beginning of his career and watch 25-year-old short film titled The Great O’Grady. Fox directed the 30-minute film in addition to scripting, and...

Let’s talk about what Playing For Keeps has going for it. It has a somewhat okay director in Gabriele Muccino (The Pursuit of Happyness). It has a talented cast with Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Uma Thurman, Dennis Quaid, and Judy Greer. It has a script from the guy who wrote So I Married An Axe Murderer (that is a plus, because that film is still funny). But it’s also directed by the guy who directed Seven Pounds (schmaltz, sap, with added jellyfish). And it only imagines that Butler is capable of playing a soccer-playing lothario and that Zeta-Jones can only be a deranged maneater. And, yeah, it also comes to us with a script by the guy who has only a story by credit on, of all things, In the Army Now. Let’s take it to the trailer! And that, my friends, is the trailer that told us everything we needed to...

Is ‘In The Army Again’ a Real Pauly Shore Sequel or Just a Stunt to Publicize Andy Dick’s Talk Show?
There are certain auteurs out there, like the Coen brothers or Paul Thomas Anderson, who have never made any sequels to their fan favorite films. They’re artists who are always taking on new challenges, always attempting to break new ground. Pauly Shore is the same way. I’m certain that somebody somewhere has been clamoring for Encino Man 2, The Son In-Law 2, and especially In the Army Now 2 for years, but Shore has been unrelenting, always committed to moving forward and exploring new territory. All of that is supposedly about to change, however. Shore was recently a guest on Andy Dick’s Internet talk show Andy Dick Live, and during their conversation the talk turned to their memories starring together in 1994’s signal-of-the-end-of-Pauly-Shore’s-relevance, In the Army Now. Dick was the first to suggest that it might finally be time to give their biggest fans exactly what they want by filming a sequel called In...

If I were a billionaire, almost all of my business ventures would mirror that of Annapurna’s Megan Ellison — which is to say that, if I were a billionaire, Paul Thomas Anderson wouldn’t ever have to struggle over getting more films made. Remember In The Army Now, the hit comedy of 1994 that had audiences rolling in aisles, gasping for air between fits of laughter, and racking up hundreds of millions of dollars in box office returns? No, because none of the preceding sentence is true except for the fact that In The Army Now did, indeed, come out in 1994. Pauly Shore and Andy Dick "reunited" yesterday on Dick's web series, and the two sort of agreed to collaborate on a sequel to In the Army Now. "I've always said we should do In the Army Again," Dick said, and Shore agreed. "We just need a script and someone to back the project and I'm in," Shore said, which sure does sound iron-clad and like a plan that will absolutely 100 percent work out perfectly, ending in a blockbuster feature film. ("In the Army Again"? How about In the Army Later? Or Out of the Army Now? In the Navy Now? No bad ideas in a brainstorm.) Now all that's left to ponder is how to orchestrate a Son in Law sequel! When a movie scores the biggest opening weekend of all time (by nearly $40 million, in this case), the expectation is that it should continue to smash records. So, at a glance, “The Avengers” scoring the largest second weekend in film history isn’t exactly newsworthy. Though most prognosticators pegged the film, following a stupefying opening act of $207 million, to level off in the vicinity of 70% or so. As it turns out, a lot of your friends missed out on the movie the first time around, and after losing a little more than half of its first weekend tally, it’s the first film ever with two nine-figure weekend grosses. That shit cray.

Toy Story 3D Blu-Ray Combo Pack Walt Disney Home Entertainment 1995 & 2009/Rated G/Running Time 81 Mins List Price: $49.99 – Available November 1, 2011 Back during the Fall of 1995, I had absolutely no interest in seeing Toy Story. Some potentially worrisome news this week for the follow-up to Sylvester Stallone's successful revivalist action flick The Expendables... of course, it could also be promising, depending on your point of view. The sequel is still happening and is, in fact, a very high priority over at Millennium Films. However, this week the L.A. Times [1] has learned that Sly is not planning to get back behind the camera again, nor will he be writing the script himself. According to an inside source, he has recently been meeting with directors to take over the franchise. Will this be a smart move, or should Stallone remain the sole creative force behind it? For a while there, it seemed like Stallone was angling for a new chapter in his career as a director after helming Rocky Balboa, Rambo and The Expendables, but now that he has re-established himself as an actor, directing...

Ever since The Expendables became a hit at the box office last August, fans have been wondering about the sequel, specifically who would be added to the cast. But while we still don't know if Jean-Claude Van Damme or Chuck Norris will be joining the crew, one space just opened up: the director's chair. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that after both helming and starring in the 2010 summer blockbuster, Sylvester Stallone has started taking meetings with other directors. Also unlike the first film, Stallone wasn't involved with the writing process, instead leaving it to David Agosto and Ken Kaufman (Curious George, In The Army Now). The story comes from an unnamed source that was "briefed on the project but was not authorized to speak about it publicly." Millennium Films, the company behind the film, declined to comment. Should this story be true you can expect a lot of hands...

Back in 2009, Gerard Butler was planning a romantic comedy about a baseball player returning to his estranged wife to make amends with her and his child and to coach the local little league team. It was called Slide. Now that movie is about soccer instead of baseball, it’s called Playing the Field, and (according to Variety) Jessica Biel and Uma Thurman are now on board. Director Gabriele Muccino (The Pursuit of Happyness) was always on board and still is. For what it’s worth, this doesn’t exactly sound like the typical rom-com Butler appears in on a nearly-annual basis in order to stoke the fires of his P.S. I Love You fanbase. Whether you call it soccer or football, I think everyone can agree that there haven't been that many movies that would spawn praise equal to that of an inspiring a "Gooooal!" The Big Green and Kicking & Screaming satisfied different generations of kids, Bend It Like Beckham struck a few chords and Shaolin Soccer was fun as hell, but there's no Field of Dreams for soccer fans. It looks like an attempt at such a film might be on the way as 24 Frames reports a Little League-based movie called Slide will be reconfigured to take place in the world of soccer with Gerard Butler playing a dad with a dubious past brought in to coach his son's team. Screenwriter Robbie Fox, who wrote a few classic 90's comedies like So I Married an Axe Murderer and In the Army Now, penned the original screenplay, while director Gabriele Muccino (Pursuit of ...

Straight-to-dvd is known as the last stop on the gravy train before the end of a fading star's career. And there's definitely some truth to that. But it can also be a low-risk, high-reward place to restart a career, where you can throw away the stuff that hasn't been working and trying something new. Budgets and stakes may be lower, but so are expectations.
The Dtv landscape is full of untapped opportunities and I give Pauly Shore credit for being one of the first guys I've come across in this column who's clearly taking advantage of that. Completely dismissed by critics (Roger Ebert once compared him to "the cinematic equivalent of long fingernails drawn very slowly and quite loudly over a gigantic blackboard"), reduced to a punchline in the mainstream, the former MTV DJ and movie star has reinvented himself in straight-to-dvd land as "Pauly Shore," the star of self-deprecating...

Brendan Fraser has had a bumpy box office track record since he first came to prominence in 1992 with Encino Man. Audiences have most appreciated him in the adventure arena, namely The Mummy movies, with one family-oriented success in George of the Jungle. Other than that, he's never carried a non-adventure hit on his own. This weekend, he's the sole above-the-title-billed star of Furry Vengeance, a family comedy that sees Mr. Fraser mining the territory of some of his worst-performing movies. Encino Man, a comedy in which Fraser played a thawed-out caveman going to high school, opened on Memorial Day weekend in 1992 and ultimately grossed $40.7 million (or the equivalent of over $75 million adjusted for ticket price inflation). The relative success of the movie launched not only Fraser, but Pauly Shore. Shore's two most successful comedies, Son-in-Law and In the Army Now, featured Mr. Fraser in uncredited cameos as his Encino Man character.
