Huntington, a ‘raucous revenge thriller’ will star Glen Powell, Margaret Qualley and Ed Harris, and will be directed by Emily The Criminal's John Patton Ford.
Here’s a fun announcement to lighten up your Thursday morning. A24 and StudioCanal have unveiled a new project that is set to release at an unspecified point in the future. The film is called Huntington and is being described as a “raucous revenge thriller” about the heir to a multi-billion-dollar fortune who will stop at nothing to get what he deserves. An early summer shoot is being planned for the film.
The core cast for this one looks promising. Glen Powell continues to attract interest in every project he selects: this summer will see him appear in cinemas in the blockbuster sequel, Twisters, as well as starring in Richard Linklater’s Hit Man on Netflix. Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick), Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), and Ed Harris (The Truman Show) are set to star in the revenge thriller Huntington for writer/director John Patton Ford, and Deadline reports that A24 has just boarded the project to handle its domestic distribution.
Drawing inspiration from the 1949 crime comedy Kind Hearts and Coronets, Huntington will see Powell taking on the role of Becket Redfellow, the heir to a multi-billion-dollar fortune who will stop at nothing to get what he deserves… Or what he thinks he deserves. "Anyone But You" became a surprise hit when it arrived in theaters back in December 2023. In an age where everyone is used to superhero movies and the odd horror flick doing well at the box office, surely a rom-com starring two lesser-known stars whose careers are only just starting to get going wasn't going to hit? But hit, it did. "Anyone But You" passed box office milestones, making an impressive $216 million worldwide on just a $25 million budget. Oh, and it was also based on a William Shakespeare play.
It might seem strange to think that a loose adaptation of the Bard's "Much Ado About Nothing," could be so surprisingly popular, but perhaps "Anyone But You" is ushering in a new era of cool Shakespeare adaptations, á la Leonardo DiCaprio with "Romeo + Juliet" back in the mid-'90s. Either way, the film's success certainly went a long way to...

Whew, it’s not even May, and the cinematic “body count” rises up considerably with another lone, determined warrior facing nearly insurmountable odds. I suppose this is more of the “John Wick” effect, as filmmakers try to “up the ante” and deliver a flick with near wall-to-wall frenetic action. So far this year we’ve gone from the spy showdowns of Argyle to the avenger of the elderly The Beekeeper, and winding up a couple of weeks ago with the manic Monkey Man. For this week’s thriller we’re sent to a near future time in an exotic foreign land as, in a nod either to old Variety newspaper headlines or the beloved ABC Tgif sitcom, Boy Kills World.
And it is a nasty dystopian world for the preteen boy (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti), who is being trained in the jungle by the surly, “slave-driving” Shaman (Yayan Ruhian). And...

You thought you were okay sitting on the toilet until you read Dreamcatcher. You’d happily walk past a storm drain until you read It. You’d go into a creepy boutique shop before checking Needful Things out of the library. You didn’t even mind checking into Room 217 at a hotel until you read The Shining. More than perhaps any other horror novelist, Stephen King has unnerved our collective imagination with twisted creations that stalk our everyday lives. Demonic cars, rabid dogs, alien domes, possessed caretakers, crazed fans… there’s a Stephen King monster for every day of the year, plus one extra on leap years.
With a back catalogue reaching all the way from the 1970s to now, if you stacked every novel Stephen King had ever published in a teetering pile, it would almost certainly topple over and crush you to death.

Franco Columbu, the Italian bodybuilding prodigy, and the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger forged a close friendship. The two dealt with everything after meeting in 1965, sticking by one another through good times and bad. But they each brought unique personalities to the table.
If boxing was Columbu’s background, then soccer was Schwarzenegger’s. In spite of this, their shared love of ‘bodybuilding’ served as the foundation for their friendship. Here’s an intriguing anecdote, though: Columbu trained Schwarzenegger’s fellow Hollywood veteran actor, Sylvester Stallone, for the film Rocky II.
Sylvester Stallone in Rocky films
When Franco challenged Stallone to a bench press competition, the actor accepted, but not before the latter tore his pec off the bone. This is where things got tricky. The injury happened 1.5 months before Stallone was supposed to appear and helm the Rocky sequel.
Well, you must hear him discuss how he turned the tide of events!

The Running Man (1987) was one of Stephen King's earliest books. In a dystopian version of America's future, an impoverished family man named Ben Richards struggles to deal with unemployment and his daughter's mounting medical bills. In desperation, Richards signs up to be on 'The Running Man', a reality show where contestants try to evade highly trained killers. For every hour that they survive, they earn money. If they manage to live for 30 days, they win 1 billion dollars.
Richards has no hope of winning – he's just your average guy, without the physical prowess it will take to outrun and outfight his pursuers. He knows that competing on the show will kill him, but he hopes to live long enough to earn the money it will take to save his family.
Some Major Changes
Five years after the publication of The Running Man, the book was adapted for the big screen.

The pun-packed, Arnie-starring original that strayed wildly from Stephen King’s book is one trashy 80s sci-fi romp that could actually benefit from a remake
Why bother remaking much-loved 80s and 90s science fiction movies? Frankly it never ends well. Len Wiseman’s 2012 reworking of Total Recall, with a baffled-looking Colin Farrell taking over from Arnold Schwarzenegger as the amnesiac dreamer of futuristic secret agent dreams, struggled to capture the bombast of the superbly trashy Paul Verhoeven original, and never even made it to mutant-heavy Mars. The maverick Dutch director’s 1987 version of RoboCop is a gloriously effective corporate satire masquerading as an all-guns-blazing actioner, but its 2014 remake from José Padilha (despite a stellar cast) seemed to smooth off all those rough, wonderfully stop-motion fuelled sci-fi edges and somehow lose something in the process.
How, then, should we greet the news that another of Arnie’s nutty sci-fi romps, 1987’s The Running Man,...

Glen Powell is a triple threat (if you count the producing part) in Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man.” Powell co-wrote, produced, and stars in the upcoming feature from Linklater, reuniting the duo after “Everybody Wants Some!!”
In their new film, Powell portrays professor Gary Johnson, “who moonlights as a fake hit man for the New Orleans Police Department. Preternaturally gifted at inhabiting different guises and personalities to catch hapless people hoping to bump off their enemies, Gary descends into morally dubious territory when he finds himself attracted to one of those potential criminals, a beautiful young woman named Madison (Adria Arjona),” per the film’s synopsis. “As Madison falls for one of Gary’s hit man personas — the mysteriously sexy Ron — their steamy affair sets off a chain reaction of play acting, deception, and escalating stakes.”

2024 wasn’t the first time Gambit met a tragic end in the pop culture zeitgeist as Channing Tatum’s unmade film also has an equally sad story. It is no secret that Tatum was set to star as Remy LeBeau / Gambit in a spin-off of Fox’s X-Men franchise. The film was reportedly deep in development until Disney acquired Fox.
Gambit as depicted in Marvel Comics
However, the project never came to fruition, and producer Simon Kinberg’s obsession with one director might be to blame. According to reports, Kinberg was keen on getting director Edgar Wright to helm the project. However, Wright ultimately did not sign on for the project which might have had unsaid ramifications on the Tatum-led film.

Director Edgar Wright is known for developing Ant-Man for Marvel Studios before departing the project.

The ultra-charming and very handsome actor Glen Powell is having quite a run right now, but my dude is far from an overnight success. His first role was as "Long-fingered Boy" in Robert Rodriguez's "Spy Kids 3" more than 20 years ago, and since then, he's been steadily building his way to stardom. Small roles in "The Great Debaters," "The Dark Knight Rises," and "The Expendables 3" laid the groundwork for his star-making, charisma-filled performance in 2016's "Everybody Wants Some!!" In 2018, he helped resurrect the rom-com with the one-two punch of Netflix films "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" (a delightful and underrated gem) and the more popular "Set It Up" opposite Zoey Deutch, which launched him to Internet Boyfriend status.

Pierce Brosnan has been cast in the upcoming biopic on boxing British-Yemeni pugilist Prince Naseem “Naz” Hamed, ‘Giant’.
Amir El-Masry will also star in the sporting drama that tells the story of Prince Naseem’s rags-to-riches ascent to a World Championship under the tutelage of his Irish-born boxing trainer Brendan Ingle. El-Masry will play Naz, and Brosnan is set to portray Ingle.
The movie will tell the true story of Hamed’s humble beginnings on the tough working-class streets of Sheffield and his discovery by Ingle, himself a steel industry worker turned boxing trainer. Their unlikely partnership along with Naz’ unorthodox style, cocky persona and sheer dominance in the ring, propelled them to the top of boxing’s elite and unprecedented levels of global superstardom, all in the face of the rampant Islamophobia and racism of 80’s and 90’s Britain.

Glen Powell, action star? The actor arguably already made a foray into the genre in 2013’s “The Expendables 3” and 2022’s “Top Gun: Maverick,” but this time, he’ll be the leading man and not in a supporting role. The news came out of CinemaCon today that Powell will star in Edgar Wright’s upcoming remake of “The Running Man” at Paramount.

Three years have gone by since it was announced that Edgar Wright was coming on board to direct a new take on the novel The Running Man, which was written by Stephen King under his Richard Bachman pen name. The Running Man was, of course, previously turned into a film back in 1987 that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger – and even though that movie was very different from the source material, Schwarzenegger is still a tough act to follow. But now we know who’s brave enough to take on the challenge. Paramount has announced that Edgar Wright’s The Running Man is set to star Glen Powell of Top Gun: Maverick!
Wright is producing the film with Nira Park and Simon Kinberg.
King’s novel has the following description: It was the ultimate death game in a nightmare future America. The year is 2025 and reality TV has grown to the point where...

Originally reported way back in 2021, Edgar Wright is directing a new take on Stephen King’s The Running Man, and Paramount has announced out of CinemaCon today that Glen Powell will star.
Edward Wright will direct the brand new movie adaptation of Stephen King’s novel and he will also produce along with his producing partner Nira Park and Simon Kinberg.
King’s novel, published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, was released in 1982, loosely adapted into the same-titled Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring film in 1987.
Deadline reminds, “King’s futuristic novel is a chase thriller set in a dystopian America in the year 2025. The story centers on Ben Richards, a desperate man who participates in violent reality show “The Running Man” in order to win enough money to revive his gravely ill daughter. The show follows Richards being chased by numerous hunters, sent to kill him.”

Glen Powell, Hollywood’s favorite rising star, has nabbed his first action vehicle.
The actor, who cemented his leading-man status with the hit romantic comedy Anyone but You, will star in Paramount’s The Running Man, a new adaptation of the Stephen King novel that Edgar Wright will direct.
Wright, who’s been attached to the project since 2021, is also producing along with partner Nira Park and genre mainstay Simon Kinberg.

Glen Powell has already played a hit man, so why not star as a running man?
The “Hit Man” actor/writer and “Anyone But You” star has officially been cast in Edgar Wright’s “Running Man” remake, as announced at CinemaCon 2024. The feature will be released by Paramount.
Writer/director Wright previously announced that he was adapting Stephen King’s 1982 novel “The Running Man” (published under pseudonym Richard Bachman) for another big screen iteration in 2021. Deadline reported at the time that Wright will be teaming with his “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” screenwriter Michael Bacall to be as faithful to the source material as possible. The project was hinted at since 2017 with Wright tweeting that it’s the one film he would want to remake.

Handsome man Glen Powell better get his sneakers on, because he's about to become "The Running Man." Powell will star in Edgar Wright's new adaptation of the Stephen King/Richard Bachman novel, as was announced today at CinemaCon, where we have boots on the ground in the form of our own Ryan Scott. Powell will play the lead character Ben Richards, a man living in a dystopian future where people desperate for money participate in a reality game show where they're hunted for sport. He'll also likely spend the movie looking very handsome and being very charming, because that's his whole thing.
Powell stole the show in "Top Gun: Maverick," and was recently seen in the surprisingly delightful rom-com "Anyone But You." Next, he'll appear in the "Twister" follow-up "Twisters" and the Richard Linklater comedy "Hit Man," which is headed to Netflix. Powell has been working for a while now,...

Glen Powell is lacing up his sneakers.
The “Top Gun: Maverick” star will lead the cast of Edgar Wright’s “The Running Man,” taking on a role played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 cult favorite. The dystopian action film is based on a novel of the same name by horror maestro Stephen King, which he first published under a pseudonym, Richard Bachman.
Wright, best known for directing the satiric zombie film “Shaun of the Dead,” will also produce the picture along with Simon Kinberg and Nira Park. The filmmaker, whose work overflows with style and wit, most recently made the psychological horror film “Last Night in Soho.” His other credits include “Hot Fuzz,” “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” and “Baby Driver.”
Powell is on a hot streak lately and has found himself in demand by many studios who believe he has the kind of charisma that could make him a major star.

We all miss that unique vehicular mayhem that Carmageddon brought us. Fret not, as Sumo Digital and publisher Secret Mode are looking to give fans of that particular brand of carnage a boost with their upcoming title, DeathSprint 66. Rather than having players running over civilians in souped-up cars, the game has you as the vehicle, dishing out dismemberment to your fellow racers.
A spin on The Running Man and Rollerball, DeathSprint 66 takes place in 2066, where humans have abandoned the big cities. Luckily, the Bachman Media Network has taken advantage of this, building up a series of deadly racetracks designed to entertain the masses with Deathsprint. The concept sees eight participants race their Clone Jockey (with an endless supply of clones at their disposal) in a battle of brutality and dismemberment. Of course, to to make things even more interesting, the tracks are filled with deadly booby traps, traversals and opportunities...

‘$la$her$’ Blu-ray Review: Terror Vision Unearths an Obscure 2001 Horror Movie With a Killer Premise
By late 2000, reality television was considered must-see entertainment by millions. Whether it was the drama and backstabbing tribal exploits of Survivor or Regis Philbin asking for the “final answer” on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, this boob tube subgenre was all the rage worldwide. Meanwhile, Japan has always been known for their off the wall, physically demanding gameshows like Takeshi’s Castle and Kunoichi.
Writer-director Maurice Devereaux (End of the Line) rode the wave of reality TV in an ocean of Japanese game show craziness on a surfboard crafted from The Running Man to bring the world $la$hers in 2001. And thanks to Terror Vision, who have been on a roll with their releases lately, we have a chance to revisit this Canadian direct-to-video flick. Despite how the title sounds, it is not supposed to be a straight-on horror film, but a satire in a horror film’s clothing, so to speak.

An instant success, the movie-themed burger joint boasted an array of production made and screen-used memorabilia on display throughout the restaurant. The New York Times headline the following day read, “Fantasy For the Price of a Burger.” Each Planet Hollywood location served as a mini-museum devoted to the movies and the investors behind the venture included a who’s who of 90s stars, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. The genius marketing strategy presented the opportunity to experience movie magic, from the props and costumes that defined audiences’ favourite films, to the thrill of potentially spotting a celebrity in the flesh.

Mark L. Lester's ultra-violent 1985 actioner "Commando" is entertainingly ridiculous and ridiculously entertaining. Few films of the era reflect on the ultra-violent military fantasies of Reagan's America better than "Commando," an irony to be sure, as it stars a massive Austrian actor. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a former Special Forces Colonel named John Matrix who is attempting to live a quiet life with his sweet daughter Jenny (Alyssa Milano). When Jenny is kidnapped by a vengeful villain played by Dan Hedaya, it gives John the moral license to murder about a thousand people in a violent quest to rescue her. John Matrix shoots, explodes, cuts, stabs, and buzzsaw-frisbees his way through Hedaya's minions without a scratch, a military superman with untouchable skill and an unslaked bloodlust.
The violence in "Commando" is horrifying and spectacular. Looking over the film's parental advisory on IMDb may sell the film better than any conventional advertisement.

Stephen King is inarguably one of the most adapted authors in the world. The reigning overlord of the horror genre has seen his work translated to film and TV almost continually since his first novel, Carrie, was adapted in 1976. While he’s had his ups and downs in terms of success in those venues, it’s almost a certainty that the King adaptations will continue as the author himself keeps working well into his sixth decade as a published writer.
Naturally, most of the adaptations of King’s work focus on his horror or horror-adjacent output: just about everything from 1,000-page behemoths like the post-apocalyptic The Stand to 10-page short stories like the single-setting monster tale “The Boogeyman” have found their way to the screen. But while filmmakers and creators gravitate toward the King material that they think will scare audiences – after all, that’s his brand – some of the...

Edgar Wright's reboot of 'The Running Man' is in active development. The 49-year-old director is working on a movie based on Stephen King's novel of the same name and has promised that his take will be more faithful to the story than the 1987 dystopian flick that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.Edgar told the Happy Sad Confused podcast: "'The Running Man' is something that is in active development. "Why is that interesting to me? It's like, I like the film but I like the book more, and they didn't really adapt the book. Even as a teenager when I saw the Schwarzenegger film I was like, 'Oh, this isn't like the book at all!' Edgar Wright is back in the limelight after producing “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off,” the critically adored anime expansion of “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” which reunites the entire cast of his beloved 2010 film. But the success of the Netflix series has many fans wondering when Wright will get back in the director’s chair for another movie.
In a new appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Wright offered some hints about what his first film since “Last Night in Soho” might be. The director gave an update on his planned reboot of “The Running Man,” Stephen King’s dystopian novel that inspired the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger movie of the same name. Wright explained that his film would not necessarily be a remake of the movie, but a more faithful adaptation of King’s novel, including parts that director Paul Michael Glaser omitted.

The Running Man is among some of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s beloved works. It’s definitely a movie that looks like a product of its time, but there was still plenty of fun to be had. The action film originated as a novel by Stephen King. He would write it under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. In the years since the movie’s release, there have been similarly-themed films about a dystopian future that showcase people fighting for their lives for the sake of entertainment, such as The Hunger Games films. However, there has yet to be a faithful adaptation made from The Running Man‘s source material.
Edgar Wright aims to change that. The Shaun of the Dead director is a fan of the Arnold Schwarzenegger film, but he does think there is an opportunity to adapt the Stephen King novel closely since the movie strayed from it. According to ScreenRant,...

Edgar Wright gives his thoughts on franchise filmmaking and spills just a little tea regarding the development of the new The Running Man.
Just a couple of days ago, celebrated British filmmaker Christopher Nolan offered his thoughts on franchise filmmaking, a topic that just keeps cropping up given that it’s been a pretty turbulent year for sequels and cinematic universes.
Now, another respected British filmmaker has popped up to give us their take. Appeared on the HappySadConfused podcast, Cornetto Trilogy auteur Edgar Wright said, “I wish some franchises would have the sense to just take a breather and let people get excited about it again. I feel like there are certain things that I loved that I don’t want to see again, or I don’t want to see them again for a long time.”

The director of The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes is heading to the world of Stephen King next with The Long Walk. More here:
Here’s one of two news updates today on projects based on Stephen King stories that will at some point be heading to a cinema near you. Oddly enough, both projects also focus on murderous dystopian TV contests and both were originally written under King’s Richard Bachman pseudonym, his one-time alter ego who was known for penning a harder, nastier brand of horror.
The first story concerns the announcement of The Long Walk, a novella published by King back in 1979. It was eventually published in a collection of other ‘Bachman tales’ in 1985. That collection also featured The Running Man, which is also in development at the moment with Edgar Wright this week offering an update on the project.

Almost a quarter of a century later and tons of television series work later, the filmmaker might bring On Swift Horses — a period piece item featuring strained relationships, horses, gambling and the likes of Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jacob Elordi and Will Poulter. Written by Bryce Kass (Lizzie), production took place in at the beginning of the year in.…...
