Spooky season is in full swing, which means plenty of movie fans will flock to Tim Burton’s beloved seasonal classic “Sleepy Hollow.” But not the director of the new upcoming movie adaptation — filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer is intentionally steering clear of the Halloween classic.
Beer’s “Pet Sematary” prequel just landed on Paramount+ and next up, she’s set to re-team with Paramount to write, direct and produce a new retelling of the beloved American ghost story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”
“Whenever I’m adapting something, if it’s been adapted before on film, I don’t rewatch the movies. I you just can’t,” Beer told TheWrap. “I didn’t while making ‘Pet Sematary,’ I just kept re-reading the books. And it’s the same thing for ‘Sleepy Hollow.’”
Of course, the story of the headless horseman that haunts and taunts a small village has been famously...

Disney has adapted its theme park attractions into movies several times, and with varying degrees of success. Everyone remembers "Pirates of the Caribbean," but the "Country Bears" movie from 2002 left a significantly smaller cultural footprint. Same with "The Haunted Mansion," the Eddie Murphy comedy from 2003. Now Disney is coming back for a second bite at the apple with the slightly differently titled "Haunted Mansion," written by Katie Dippold ("Parks and Recreation") and directed by Justin Simien ("Dear White People"), in an attempt to capitalize on the familiarity of the brand while capturing what makes that attraction so special.
But what exactly does make that Disney staple so special? If you polled theme park fans, none of them would blink if you called it the greatest theme park ride of all time. And if you asked Disney Imagineers -- the folks who actually design and build Disney theme park attractions -- why it's so special,...

The Headless Horseman is one of the latest horror films from The Asylum to hit DVD here in the UK, and it;s what sounds like a mashup of Ghost Rider and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Or Ghost Rider and The Punisher if the UK DVD artwork is to be believed.
To quote the film’s press release “When seconds from death, a nearly decapitated and desperate man makes a deal with the devil to protect the love of his life and seek revenge on the drug dealer who almost murdered him.” Why does it not surprise me that The Asylum’s lack of quality extends to its marketing department?

“It always is Christmas Eve, in a ghost story” – Jerome K. Jerome, 1891
In the English countryside, dinner had ended, and the company retired to the drawing room. They gathered around the fire as the parson, who sat in a high-backed oak chair, proceeded to tell of goblins and ghosts. The squire, not a superstitious man himself, listened intently as the parson spoke about the crusader who rose from his tomb for a nighttime ride. The old porter’s wife added to the tale with her own of the crusader’s march on Midsummer Eve, when fairies became visible.
Such was Christmas Night at Bracebridge Hall, England, in 1820.
The story set in the fictional manor was written by American author Washington Irving, and published in 1820 in the fifth installment of The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. This was less than three months before the world was introduced to the Headless...

The next addition to the Arrowverse, Superman & Lois, is set to feature a more grounded version of the famous superhero alongside his intrepid wife, and a couple of photos have now teased a classic interpretation of the character.
Of course, several episodes of Supergirl have already shown us Tyler Hoechlin as both the Man of Steel and Clark Kent, with his appearance as the latter certainly in line with the meek reporter that the superhero disguises himself as, in the process winning over Teen Wolf fans initially unable to separate him from the rugged aggression of Derek Hale.
In keeping with this, one of the new images seen below, taken from the Instagram of Bitsie Tulloch, sees Clark looking particularly nerdy in an old-fashioned suit jacket with stacks of newspapers behind him that indicate that the notion of print media will at least for now be maintained, both of which...

It’s the season for thrills and chills, but if you’re planning to watch movies with your kids as Halloween approaches, you might not be looking for the scariest horror films. Luckily, there’s plenty of family friendly fare on Disney+ to add some spooky to your Halloween season.

When you’re looking for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow on Disney+, it doesn’t come up on its own. The short from 1949 was released in tandem with another short based on the Wind in the Willows. The combined films were released under the full title of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, and that’s exactly what you have to type in to get it to come up.

It may still be over two months until Halloween, but that hasn’t stopped Disney+ from getting in the holiday spirit. A batch of 20 family-friendly horror films have dropped on the streaming service recently, providing you with an abundance of frights to get you gradually geared up for the best night of the year, with a few stand-out entries worth looking out for.
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad is one of many anthology pics Disney released in the ‘40s, and is best remembered as a Boomer equivalent of Watership Down, The Dark Crystal or The NeverEnding Story in the “movies that traumatized children” category. Its first segment is based on classic kids book The Wind in the Willows, but the second, more relevant half adapts Washington Irving’s famous short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, with its rich but dark animation and foreboding tone and music terrifying many of its young viewers.

With director Sergio Pablos’ “Klaus” (Netflix), the innovative 2D Santa origin story, Annie-nominated production designers Szymon Biernacki and Marcin Jakubowski achieved a unique retro look, channeling Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty” but looking forward instead of back.
“Our mission was to revive 2D animation and make it relevant again for audiences,” said Jakubowski, who filled in the gap with new tracking software for volumetric lighting and texturing around characters to make them stand out more in the environments. “But we had to operate within the broad appeal visual language that we are all used to. We couldn’t get too experimental.”
Disney is in Pablos’ DNA: he worked on “Tarzan” and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” in the ’90s. “But our inspiration was Eyvind Earle with his backgrounds from ‘Sleeping Beauty,'” said Jakubowski, “and also his personal work, including the Christmas postcards. Almost one year ago, when we launched at Big Daddy, one of our first posts was about 10 horror films in need of a DVD or Blu-Ray release. The Nesting and Twice Dead which both made the list are now either out on DVD or about to be released. Other titles that made the list included The Pack, Night Warning, Massacre at Central High, Dance of the Damned, Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice, Deadly Blessing, The Kindred and Killer Party. With this second annual edition, we hope to spotlight more horror films that have fallen through the cracks. Titles that haven't been released beyond VHS (with the exception of one, that has only been released to VOD) that need the attention of us horror fans and distributors to make these titles readily available for our horror movie watching enjoyment.

Given man's unwavering fascination with woman, it's no surprise that the female star acts as the anchor to a dominant portion of horror pictures. I mean really, who wants to see a bare chested man tearin ass through the woods screaming at the top of his lungs while a bladed assailant nips at his heels? I don't - I know that much, although I'm certain there are plenty of men who would disagree (and that's okay with me, to each his own!). The simple fact remains however, women bring a unique appeal and certain sensual atmosphere to film that no man ever could. And it's not all about gratuitous T&A.
There's a comforting quality in the hands of the heroine; a fascinating maternal strength that, as a man I cannot genuinely relate to. I can however admire, and in many cases it's nearly impossible to not admire the lone...
