Stephen Kandel, the prolific screenwriter whose work over four decades in television spanned Sea Hunt to Star Trek, Batman to Barnaby Jones and Mannix to MacGyver, has died. He was 96.
Kandel died Oct. 21 of natural causes in his Boston apartment, his daughter Elizabeth Englander told The Hollywood Reporter.
Kandel also wrote multiple episodes of such shows as The Millionaire, The Rogues, Gidget, I Spy, Ironside, The Wild Wild West, It Takes a Thief, Dan August, The New Mike Hammer, Mission: Impossible, Room 222, The Magician, Medical Center, Cannon, Hawaii Five-o and Hart to Hart.
Plus, he co-created Iron Horse, a 1966-68 drama from ABC and Screen Gems that starred Dale Robertson, as a gambler turned railroad baron, Gary Collins and Ellen Burstyn.
“His résumé reads like a Baby Boomer’s dream list of must-see TV,” Tom Weaver wrote in his 2005 book, Earth vs. the Sci-Fi Filmmakers.

If you got it, haunt it. Pro wrestling and horror collide this Halloween season with “Chamber of Horrors,” a brand new ghost-hunting show that was announced over the weekend.
The upcoming “Chamber of Horrors” will be hosted by WWE superstars Shotzi and Scarlett Bordeaux, and it looks like it’ll exclusively air on WWE’s YouTube channel.
Bordeaux tweets, “Do you believe in ghosts? You will. For the last year, we’ve been investigating the most haunted locations, and now we can’t wait to show you some of our favorites. Get in the spirit on September 20th for our new paranormal series!”
Shotzi adds in a tweet of her own, “Y’all don’t know how hard it has been to keep this under wraps! We have been working on this the past year and I cant wait for everyone to see all the ghostly goodness we have been collecting.

Marie Tussaud, the founder of legendary wax museum Madame Tussauds, is going to be the subject of a new series. Entitled "Madame!," the project is brainchild of Andy Serkis, famous for playing Gollum in the Lord of the Rings series and Caesar in the Planet of the Apes franchise. Serkis's production company, Imaginarium Productions, is codeveloping the series with distribution company Newen Connect.
"Madame!" will tell the story of Tussaud, who was born in 1761 in France to a family of public executioners and learned the art of making wax models from local anatomist Philippe Curtius, who employed her mother as a housekeeper. During the Enlightenment, Tussaud worked as an art tutor at Versailles for Louis XVI's sister, though during the French Reign of Terror, she was nearly guillotined after being perceived as a royal sympathizer. Okay, okay… I know this is kind of typical for this time of year, but hear me out. I have a good argument for why WWE should being back the old WCW pay-per-view concept, Halloween Havoc, to their annual PPV schedule.
Back in the 80s and 90s (and the year 2000) World Championship Wrestling hosted a pay-per-view every October called Halloween Havoc. Occuring every year from 1989 until 2000, Halloween Havoc was the autumnal spooky show for WCW, a themed event that looked the part but didn’t feel too forced like PPVs of the modern-age like Hell in a Cell do. You see… Hell in a Cell used to be a gimmick match that was utilised during a specific feud that had become so heated that the Cell was the only way to contain the hatred between the two participants, but now, with the annual Hell in a Cell PPV, we know...

You can tell that the Halloween season is getting closer, between various retailers already donning their shelves with tons of decorations, the days are getting shorter, and Turner Classic Movies has debuted their October schedule online, which features an abundance of genre awesomeness that will be hitting airwaves this fall. Without a doubt, TCM is one of the best resources for classic film, so for those of you looking to broaden your horizons this Halloween, definitely check out their calendar and set those DVRs.
Also, TCM has designated Godzilla as their “Monster of the Month” for October, so look for a bunch of classic films featuring the “King of the Monsters” and other beloved Kaiju throughout October as well.

Kendra Wilkinson and footballer Jimmy Bullard are the first stars to take part in the notorious I'm a Celebrity eating challenges in 2014.
Lucky Kendra is first up in the Terror Tavern challenge and she is served a prawn cocktail dish.
Craig Charles leaves I'm a Celebrity following death of brother
I'm a Celebrity 2014: Gemma Collins bids farewell to the jungle
That probably sounds quite tasty, but this isn't a normal prawn cocktail. This is a bushbuck penis prawn cocktail.
Kendra grimaces as she gobbles down the dish, but takes the challenge in good spirits, and looks as though she's going to win her first point in the challenge.
Last night, Tinchy Stryder won four stars for camp in a Chamber of Horrors challenge, taking on cockroaches, mud crabs, snakes and a monster lizard in the process.
I'm a Celebrity continues tonight (November 20) at 9pm on ITV.

Tinchy Stryder took on the 'Chamber of Horrors' Bush Tucker challenge on tonight's (November 19) I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here.
The rapper took home four stars from a possible seven, facing cockroaches, mud crabs, snakes and a monster lizard in the process.
Tinchy took on challenges in seven separate chambers, having to sort through fish guts and battling an army of green ants along the way.
He was then asked whether he wanted to take the food back to camp or rescue a celebrity from the slammer by Ant and Dec.
Tinchy replied: "Oh man, do you have to do this to me? I'm Tinchy, I need to gain some weight."
He then decided to save a celebrity, saying: "It's going to be hard but whoever is rescued, they'll be thankful."
Gemma was the one chosen to be rescued, only to walk out on the show shortly afterwards.

WWE’s next Pay-Per-View is just around the corner, and as has become an October tradition, it is built around the infamous Hell in a Cell match. The first Hell in a Cell match was way back in 1997, but since then there have been twenty-eight matches in the demonic structure and over thirty men have stepped foot inside the cell and tasted the unforgiving steel.
The Hell in a Cell concept was created by Jim Cornette who has said to have been influenced by Memphis-style steel cage matches where the cage extended beyond the ring, as well as WCW’s War Games match where the cage has a roof on it. The cell also bears some resemblance to WCW’s Thunderdome/Chamber of Horrors cage. While the original Cell was 16ft and just over two tons, the current incarnation is 20ft tall and weighs a whopiing five tons.

Spotted those shiny boxed horror movies in your local Tesco? Craig's watched them. All of them.
There's a certain type of horror film fan who enjoys a challenge. Perhaps they like a sense of adventure with their films. Perhaps there's also an element of gambling. It starts small. Low odds. For example, they might buy a boxset of the Alien Quadrilogy. Four seemingly reasonable films but there's an element of both chance and endurance. Can you sit through nearly eight hours of Alien films? And, if you can, how many of them will you like? Eventually not only does the thrill become harder to chase as the product's effect gets weaker (anyone who's bought Hellraiser boxsets will know the rules of diminishing returns) but there are only a finite number of franchises in the world and the hardened need to find new, strange ways of getting their kicks.
So bear with me.

If you thought Halloween festivities ended last week, well, you were in for as rude an awakening as Madame Lalaurie’s progeny. Let’s have at it, my friends. At Delphine’s special All Hallow’s Eve Ball in 1833, her daughters meet the dashing Jacques, whom Delphine invites to see her “Chamber of Horrors.” Although the chamber may be decked out à la Phantom of the Opera, it contains a Bobbing-for-Eyes bowl and a tub of human intestines that resembles a demonic Red Lobster Shrimp Scampi Special. The daughters, totally aware that this is the No. 1 worst way to meet a man, conspire to kill Delphine — Borquita being the most vocal of the three. But their mother uncovers their plan and has them locked up along with her other gross oddities for a year. She then tells Borquita that, as a special Christmas present, she will fill her mouth with feces.

I don't know what it is about this Halloween season, but it seems that not a day has gone by this month without a news report breaking about irate citizens lashing out against good, clean Halloween fun. We previously posted about cases from Oklahoma, New York and even the UK, all of which saw neighbors of Halloween lovers outraged over their harmless lawn decorations. Now comes a story from my own backyard of Long Island, New York, which we've got the exclusive on here on FEARnet.
As promotion for Hauppauge, New York's Chamber of Horrors haunted attraction, which boasts a 'Trilogy of Fear' (three attractions in one), residents Will Puntarich and Sean King cut together a commercial for the event, which has been airing locally here on Long Island. As we begin the month of October, I fondly remember Halloween Havoc, WCW’s annual fall extravaganza. Halloween Havoc was the one pay-per-view I looked forward to every year since it seemed like the company was inventing some weird gimmick. Some of them worked very well (The Thunderdome or Thunder Cage before the threat of lawsuit), others had mixed results (Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal) and others made me cringe (Chamber of Horrors, Sumo Monster Truck Match). Today, I want to talk about the one Halloween Havoc that didn’t have some weird or insane gimmick match: Halloween Havoc 1990 with the tagline “Terror Rules the Ring”. The card emanated from The Uic Pavilion in Chicago, a location that had held two previous Nwa PPVs: Starrcade 1987 and The Chi-Town Rumble.

“See the Chamber of Horrors and scare yourself out of a year’s growth!” The granddaddy of all 3D films makes a triumphant return and has been spruced up for new 3D setups. Just in time for Halloween! Is it just me or is there something incredibly cool about a movie character who literally has a dangerous weapon as a part of their body, in place of an average ordinary limb or appendage? Since I can't get inside your brain and hear the answer to that question before I go ahead and talk more on the subject, I'm going to instead assume that you agree with me and proceed with this list, which quite frankly doesn't need much of an introduction. So screw your introduction. Let's jump right in, and talk badass weapon limbs! [Note: at least one of the following limbs is not safe for work viewing... and there are some spoilers ahead as well.] Ash - Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness We begin with the man who is quite frankly responsible for making weapon limbs so damn cool: S-Mart's finest employee and demon killer extraordinaire, Mr. Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell). It was in Evil Dead 2 that Ash's hand became possessed by evil forces that are anything but groovy,...

Adorable alien E.T. is settling into his new home at Madame Tussauds, complete with his blanket and bicycle.
The visitor attraction today took the wraps off a wax likeness of the otherworldly creature at five of its locations: London, Hollywood, Sydney, Amsterdam and Berlin.
In the London venue, young guests took Elliott's place in the scene from the film that saw E.T. and Elliott riding through the sky on a BMX against the full moon, recently voted by fans as Universal Pictures' most memorable movie moment.
Fans will also be able to relive this classic scene and many others with the first release of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial on Blu-ray, featuring never-before-seen footage from the set and an interview with director Steven Spielberg.
Universal Pictures and Madame Tussauds are also celebrating the 30th anniversary of the classic film as it arrives on remastered, high-definition Blu-ray in stores today.

They said it couldn’t be done. A fifth year of 31 Days of Horror? 31 more terror, gore and shower scene-filled movies worth highlighting? But Rejects always say die and never back away from a challenge (unless you count that time Kevin Carr was challenged to stop hot-waxing his belly hair in public), so we’ve rounded up the horror fans among us and put together another month’s worth of genre fun. Enjoy! Synopsis: In 1910 New York, brilliant artist and sculptor Henry Jarrod (Vincent Price) uses his skills to creature exquisite wax statues of historical figures. His greedy business partner Matthew Burke (Roy Roberts) wants him to develop more exploitative pieces so they can turn a greater profit. When Jarrod refuses, Burke sets fire to the wax museum so he can collect on the insurance. Jarrod, whom many thought perished in the fire, returns months later in a wheelchair with horribly scarred hands. He...

Kim Newman, noted film critic, horror film historian and enthusiast has reissued his Dracula series of books via Titan Books. With the release of The Bloody Red Baron, the second book in the cycle, Daily Dead had the chance to speak to Mr. Newman about his inspiration behind the books and his love of all things Dracula.
Thank you for taking the time to talk with Daily Dead. With as much as Dracula and vampires are seen in pop culture, what made you want to tackle this subject?
Kim Newman: I first got interested in horror through a TV screening of Tod Browning’s Dracula (1931). The Bram Stoker novel was one of the first horror classics I read. So Dracula has always been my favourite of the great horror characters. The very proliferation of Dracula and vampires – not the same thing, which is one of the themes I wanted...

Many film actors have become box office stars thanks to one character, but while Sean Connery and Christopher Lee managed to break away from 007 and Dracula, Anthony Perkins’ was forever overshadowed by his infamous alter ego Norman Bates. For some actors, one film role was enough to give them lasting cinema immortality; if it hadn’t been for their performances as the Wizard of Oz and Ming the Merciless, Frank Morgan and Charles Middleton would have been long forgotten.
The following ten actors achieved their cult status in the horror and fantasy genre on the strength of one film. Although these working actors appeared in a variety of movies, it is that particular character and their well received performance that has pushed any other notable film work into the background!
Max Schreck (Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens – 1922)
Rafaela Ottiano (The Devil-Doll – 1936)
Margaret Hamilton (The Wizard of Oz – 1939)
Stanley Ridges (Black...

While it skews a bit more toward mystery/thriller than pure horror, this week's installment of Motion Picture Purgatory, Fragment of Fear, deals with themes of paranoia and alternate reality so well, we figured why not share it with our readers, especially those who may never have heard of this sweet slice of 1970s cinema before.
Directed by Richard C. Sarafian (Vanishing Point) and starring David Hemmings (Blow-Up, Gladiator), Gayle Hunnicutt (The Spiral Staircase, The Legend of Hell House), and Wilfrid Hyde-White (Chamber of Horrors, The Cat and the Canary), Fragment of Fear tells the tale of a young author who is plunged into a nightmare as he tries to solve his aunt's murder. When threats of violence, mysterious notes, and deadly phone calls shatter his life, the police and his girlfriend doubt the story due to his past as a drug addict - even though his life is in danger.

Tremors? Nightbreed? Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat? 976-evil? Are all on the list this year. And though there were not huge horror wins in sound editing through screenplays, the Technical Awards never cease to bring out the horror veterans. Notably Tim Drnec who contributed to such VHS classics as Alien Seed, Destroyer, and Prison won for his work on “Spydercam 3D volumetric suspended cable camera technologies.” An award also shared with Ben Britten Smith and Matt Davis who both also worked on Constantine.
But among all the winners, the Academy also honored some great loses in 2010. And though they mentioned some of our heroes, Dennis Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Kevin McCarthy (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) and Dino de Laurentiis (King Kong), they did not mention Zelda Rubinstein or Corey Haim. But we will in this last section and the others lost to us last year.
So farewell fight fans and remember,...

“There is no pleasure. There is no pain. There is only skin.” - Pinhead, Hellraiser III
“Women tend to be more tolerant about visceral things because they have more direct personal experience with them. They cope with periods once a month, they go through childbirth and they are usually the ones who look after the bleeding and battered limbs when the kids take a tumble. They can put blood and gore in context and generally cope better than men.” - Bela Lugosi
Most scholarship on the horror film has assumed that males are the primary spectators of horror; however, there have been developments, both in scholarship as well as in mainstream media, to contradict this point. In 2009, journalist Michelle Orange pointed out, in an article written for the New York Times, “Recent box office receipts show that women have an even bigger appetite for these [horror] films than men.

The Moma organized exhibit of the work of Tim Burton, which is currently parked in Toronto, is an excellent place to people watch.
There was one guy there that I just couldn't take my eyes off of. He was wearing a wool sweater with a snowflake pattern around the neck that looked like it might have been knitted by a palsied grandmother. An extreme facial hair event sprouted erratically from his face, and he wore a simple and happy look that made you wonder whether he was on an excellent high or blissfully stupid. It was simply impossible to tell if he was indulging the ironic conventions of a heavily invested hipster, or was just a particularly naïve exchange student from a Finnish village.
A homely-faced and hot-bodied blonde with a bouncy ponytail toured the show with her guy. He slouched, wore a Ronaldo soccer jersey and a pair of...
