A bashful bachelor though over forty, milquetoast George Appleby resists his father's efforts to get him interested in girls. Even the beautiful girl down the street, Mary, (Lola Albright) is ignored by George, who is more interested in his bowl of soup. Mr. Appleby puts a copy of "The Life and Loves of Casanova" on George's pillow and, in a dream sequence, George fancies himself as the great lover and Mary as Madame Pompadour.
