January, duality, a glance back at Winter, the rebirth already rising in the roots. The monochromatic lens on Fairytales give us Patriarchal representations of women that are two dimensional, narrow, stereotypical, the crone, the witch rather than the reverence of crown or medicine woman. The Yaga in the woods, her house with chicken feet brooding fear, the dark shadow of women post fecundity, the clear eyed white garbed virgin, casting off societal roles and seeking her freedom in the woods, seeking her heart, her wholeness. Nature watches, weeps, the two become one with the melt, the barren fields, naked landscapes, punished frozen limbs, human and tree, begin to reach for life in the midst of death.

This is a surrealistic, ecofeminist response to the death/ birth turning of the year that is January.

The Earthing project is a year long collaborative exploration in response to nature and experience. Earthing January is one of a series of twelve short films. Each shot in a day during the named month, under the predominating weather conditions.
