X-Men '97 (2024– )
10/10
Saying "the best Marvel project in recent years" isn't enough, it might just be the best Marvel project period.

X-Men '97 probably has the best character writing and dialogue in all of MCU. No other project had to juggle this many characters and got all of them right. X-Men '97 was on a mission to write every character with care and respect, give everyone the spotlight, a story and a character path, and it delivered.

It had the disadvantage of the audience coming back after the X-Men movies, where the only well written characters were Logan, Charles Xavier and Magneto, and it managed to make every x-man cool again. Cyclops, Storm and Rogue had an especially great "redemption", and i can't thank this show enough for that.

Even Jean, who didn't get to do much yet, has such a nice characterization and her own internal conflict that just feels so natural. Beast, who I didn't take seriously at first, also comes back with lines you would never expect to hear from him yet which make perfect sense because of the situation mutants end up in. Jubilee and Sunspot's subplots create allegories for some real life situations from teenagers' pov, that made me quite emotional.

As a person whose only prior knowledge of X-Men was from the movies, and who tuned in without expectations just to keep up with the MCU, I'm blown away by the quality of this show. It has become one of my favourite things I've ever seen, and it made me watch all of the OG animated series. I'm fully invested in these characters, I adore the X-Men, and I hope when they debut in live action in the MCU, they will be at least half as cool and well written as they are in this show.
