Julius Caesar (1970)
7/10
It's Shakespeare.

I am not the best person to review Shakespearian plays brought to film. I never particularly enjoyed them and have always thought the language should be updated to make it more enjoyable to the masses. And, as a history teacher, I also realize that many of Shakespeare's plays presented very flawed and inaccurate history lessons. There...I said it and I thought you ought to know.

This being said, if you must watch "Julius Caesar", this 1970 version is pretty good...though, of course, the language is all early 17th century English. Most of the actors do decent jobs and the production surprised me with many intimate scenes...quite moments between two people...giving it a less BIG feeling you see in many other Shakespearian movies. I wouldn't place this among the best of the plays I've seen on film.

So my verdict is watch it if you want. Just understand much of what we think about the last days of Julius Caesar were actually from this play and not accounts of his death by contemporaries. It's well made and worth your time...or not.
