The first 2 or 3 seasons were not soap opera style but rather a story line with a definitive ending that did not carry on to the next episode.
Once they changed the format to continuous story lines (aka soap opera style) it did improve and became much more interesting. That format created mini cliffhangers at the end of each episode and enticed the viewer to want to tune into the next one.
When the character of Pamela left the show , the dynamics changed since Pam and Bobby were a must-watch couple.
Too many oil wheeling and dealings became confusing as well as boring. Jr's double crossing became almost predictable and lackluster.
I forced myself to watch the last 3 seasons just to check it off my list since it is an iconic show.
