The series started great with the discovers between the characters building up their relations with each other. Each story line equally entertaining. Not sure what happened but the dynamic between the Feds and Neal & Mozzie changed after deafening 4. The audience was hoping for them to grow together unfortunately as mentioned often in the series you cannot trust humans. The legal system is mean, condescending and unfeeling. Neal was changing however Peters comments regarding him being a criminal pushed Neal to stay criminal. El was just as bad in pushing Neal & Moz away when she didn't need them. They are great when their skills are needed for whatever reason when it is convenient.
Neal's father situation changed a lot of things but did not bring closure in any way towards Neal and then way Peter reacts with " you're still a criminal" brings the relation back to season 1.
