The Turn of the Screw (2009 TV Movie)
3/10
What a bland viewing experience...
16 February 2024
Of course I had not heard about this 2009 TV movie titled "The Turn of the Screw" from writer Sandy Welch, nor was I familiar with the written work of Henry James neither. But stumbling upon the movie by random chance here in 2024, and seeing it was a horror movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to give the movie a spin.

The narrative in the movie was rather slow, and without anything interesting happening well past the halfway point of the 93 minute runtime, my interest in director Tim Fywell's movie was fast waning. It was a rather bland, slow paced and uneventful script and storyline, and it made for a dull viewing experience.

I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, but they definitely had some good enough talents on the cast list. It should be noted that the acting performances in the movie were fair, despite the fact that the actresses and actors virtually had nothing worthwhile to work with.

Visually, then you're not in for anything grand here. So there wasn't even a visual angle to the movie that could help spruce up the viewing experience. If anything has to be pointed out and praised, then I will say that the wardrobe and sets were good and did look like a proper era-set production.

"The Turn of the Screw" is not a movie that I would recommend you waste your time, money or effort on. Some of us suffered through this ordeal, so you don't have to. You're very welcome.

My rating of director Tim Fywell's 2009 TV movie "The Turn of the Screw" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.
