It's 1999 Spokane. Beverly Moody (Gemma Brooke Allen) is an orphan living with her grandmother Gail (Julie Bowen). She finds her parents' mixtape and accidentally breaks it. She decides to find all the songs on the tape hoping for a message from the past. She befriends neighbor Ellen (Audrey Hsieh), angry outsider Nicky (Olga Petsa), and record store owner Anti (Nick Thune).

Gemma gives me Abigail Breslin vibes. This is a cute little coming-of-age movie. I like these girls and their friendships. It's a little odd to have Julie Bowen as the grandmother, but she's going to play that sooner or later. The one part that lost me is Anti taking the girls to the club. No grown man would ever drive three underage girls anywhere unless he's an idiot or worst. Anti doesn't strike me as either. My pitch would be the girls sneaking out and running into him at the club. I was hoping for a bigger revelation about her mother and one of the songs. All in all, this is cute, endearing, and I like the characters.
