God's Plan vs Man's Intervention. What is good, what is evil?

Freud's Last Session

A simple premise with a lot of promise. Before Dr. Freud's death, a gentleman from Oxford came down to visit with him. The film then portrays a dramatization of the conversation between Dr. Sigmund Freud and Dr. C. S. Lewis at the onset of yet another war, barely 20 years after the end of the Great War.

What happens next is two hours of conversation between the two men where they debate theology, sexuality and science when the world was at the brink of destruction.

The debate is lively, and the flashbacks to their personal histories remind the audience of the turmoil in Europe that had been going on for decades. But I asked myself, what was the purpose of the film? I believe the ambiguity is intentional, to leave the interpretation up to the audience.

Anthony Hopkins is an absolute treasure, and his portrayal of Dr. Freud, in the last weeks of his life, dying of oral cancer, is worth the entire price of admission of the film alone.

If you're a fan of either man, or read their works, the dramatization of them meeting and talking is a dream come true. Remember, C. S. Lewis is known for much more than Narnia. Those of us who went to Catholic school their entire lives read some of Lewis's work with Christianity. Another treat is the appearance of J. R. R. Tolkien as a contemporary of Lewis.

High marks to the movie for inspiring personal introspection. If you're expecting the answers to be given, you will be disappointed.
